AIBU to think a younger partner could genuinely find Justin Fletcher attractive?

Justin Fletcher (AKA Mr Tumble) has been in the news recently as the media have discovered he is with his co-star who is 21 years younger than him. I say good for them both and I hope they are happy.

There are so many comments however about her only being with him because of his money. I realise for certain people this would be an attractive prospect but I don’t understand why it’s so hard to believe a younger woman would find him attractive? I’m a similar age to her and if I was single I would date him, regardless of his money. I think he seems like a genuinely lovely, talented, hard-working man who is great with children and has done a lot for kids with special needs. That would be attractive to a lot of people. If I was with him I’d be happy to live in a small house and for him to leave his money to a children’s charity if he so wished.

So AIBU and naive to think there are others out there with a similar mindset to myself? I recognise there are gold-diggers out there but in this case I think Justin has a lot going for him even without his bank balance?

Debbie McGee got a terrible amount of stick at the time. I recently started watching some of the old Louis Theroux documentaries and he did one on Paul Daniels and Debbie. You can see they were a really quirky, fun loving couple who were as nutty as each other.

I remember that. I had no real opinion about either of them beforehand but think they came over well and as genuine.

Musing on it, I'm sure people who work closely/in partnership in entertainment or any other field see each other at their best and worst for long periods daily, so if they finally do get together, there's the solid foundation of actually knowing that.

I thought he was gay. I've also heard he's an absolute dick according to some people who met him with their kids (when he wasn't being paid to like kids.)

I'm sure there was a MN thread about it some years back.

Ah well, as long as they're both happy.

Yes, I remember this too. I feel like someone on that thread had actually slept with him as well!

I still think 21 years is too big an age gap for any couple really. When she’s his age now he’ll be an old man.

Why does that matter? My friend's husband is dying from stomach cancer at 45. Nobody is guaranteed to enter old age with their partner alive or in good health regardless of age.

I’ve heard mixed things. Some say he’s super nice - others say he wasn’t interested in their kids and wasn’t friendly.

I imagine it gets pretty tiresome shopping in Waitrose and parents saying to their snotty one-year-old, “look it’s Mr Tumble let’s say hello” every single day.

The thing that gives me the biggest ick is she looks much, MUCH younger than her age. There’s something unsettling about a man in his 50s who works with children wanting to date someone who looks like a teenager.

Totally agree.

I don’t know what he’d have in common with someone 20 + year younger…

MrsLFii · 01/06/2026 16:26

Takes all sorts doesn’t it really? He gives me the absolute creeps, but I don’t consider my own to be the only right and correct opinion on him! Bit like me fancying Danny dyer, my ma thinks I’m off my rocker but so it is and so it goes.

There's no way she would've picked a tubby little man 21 years her senior if he stacked shelves at Morrisons.

No way at all.

You say that as if being Mr Tumble is in any way sexually appealing.

They like each other, can people just deal with it please. I think he’s great. I watched him on TV and now my kids do too. Happy he’s found someone.

Saying it as a 21 year age gap without adding he’s mid 50s and she’s mid 30s and also works in children’s tv, makes it sound like it’s an inappropriate relationship or she’s a gold digger etc. sounds more like two people who’ve worked alongside each other for a long time have started dating. Both are beyond the young age where it’s possible they are being taken advantage of.

Justin Fletcher was always such a calm and nice seeming person, I’m glad he’s found someone, I do hope they are happy.

It does seem very like Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee (who was much younger than Mr Tumbles co-presenter/fiancee but they didn't date until after several years of working together) However much mockery that match attracted, they seemed genuinely happy and it lasted.

I know very little about Justin Fletcher but I think some of the comments about his looks are very unfair. I'd give this partnership more of a chance of being long term than Leo DiCaprio and any of his revolving door of much younger girlfriends. Even though he no longer looks like Jack in Titanic, his lovelife seems less up for comment.

Somebody phrased this really well in a comment in the Daily Mail of all places:

People on here are being nasty and saying she’s after his money - would she date him if he lived in a council flat? Well, no, perhaps she wouldn’t. But his wealth has come on the back of a lot of hard work building a hugely successful career and brand. He’s ambitious, dedicated, reliable and a great businessman. His shows sell out. His wealth is a consequence of his personality and drive and he’s capable of having fun. That’s what’s attractive - the whole package of a man who has achieved something in life. But people sadly judge him for his appearance

I agree with it. I don’t think it’s the money that makes them attractive (although of course a man that is solvent and can afford things is a plus - look at the waste of space cocklodgers on here). It’s more the drive, ambition and focus that enabled them to make that money. Power (or whatever this is) is always going to be attractive, because it makes people stand out and appear very capable. And to women that’s attractive.

And they are in the same business so will have a mutual respect and understanding for each others skills, talent and approach to the industry.

VanquishedColston · 01/06/2026 16:22

I don't really get the criticism of his looks - he's just a pretty average looking man, he's not an ogre!? Surely we are all surrounded by average-looking people most of the time in life?

My husband is 12 years older than me, which wasn't an age gap I'd have considered off the bat, but we worked together and therefore got to know each other well, spent a lot of time together etc...and here we are, 10 years later.

Of course their age gap is bigger but that's not to say they don't have a genuine connection that they have built through genuinely getting to know each other well.

ThisIsAllThatFitsMeRightNow · 01/06/2026 16:20

The age gap didn't surprise me, him being straight did.

My husband is much older, I used to worry about what people thought at the start, I don't anymore.

I've seen plenty of women with unattractive, broke husbands who treat them like shit but nobody ever stops to question the motives of those relationships. Why is only when money is involved or there is an age gap that it becomes so unfathomable that two people might genuinely get on.

Most of us wouldn't fancy a partner who didn't earn enough to give us a nice life though. Who among us can honestly say we'd marry our other halves if they had no money or prospects. It doesn't particularly mark out the relationship as extraordinary to recognise finances have played a part. She's attractive so I'm sure she could attract many other wealthy men too if that was all she wanted. I think they worked together and likely genuinely fell for one another, it's common enough to meet that way.

I agree. MIL thought I was with DH for his money, but I wasn’t.

After a series of shit relationships with NMW workers in significant debt who lived off me, a man with his financial shit in order and a lovely home was very appealing. It was one part of him, but it came from the part where he’s also very driven and capable in a demanding and difficult but very interesting career.

The same qualities which maintain a career and therefore good income stream - dependability, focus, responsibility, a strong work ethic - are transferable qualities which are also important as a life partner and a parent. I wouldn’t date a man who couldn’t hold down a job for longer than 6 months, or who had no ambition, because it speaks of somebody very flaky and irresponsible with no vision for his life.

No I genuinely do not think she would be interested if he wasn't wealthy and famous. He can give her a nice lifestyle and he seems 'safe' (doesnt seem like a ladies man/potential cheat), that will be the draw.

The line "with him for his money" is misogynistic shit from people who feel inferior. I hate it. I'm attracted to people who are kind and make me laugh.

i also assumed you meant a young man until I read properly and looked the photos up.

they are both proper adults so each to their own. Not for me though however rich he is!

Amanda Holden and Les Dennis came to mind

Famous men always attract attractive most often younger women I am quite sure its not all to do with their amazing personalities and famous men so very often have much younger partners, or soon after their divorce have much younger partners

Now even Mr Tumble 😂

I seem to remember Vic Reeves had a model girlfriend for a while

She might do if she stacked shelves with him all day.

They work alongside each other and have done for a long time. They probably know each other really well in the way you do with colleagues if you are in a role where there’s lots of time where nothings happening and you can chat. (Tv work often has quite a lot of hanging round for the actors waiting for stuff to be set up).

Not to be rude but she looks her age, I don’t get the “she looks like a teen” comments at all.

Mrs Merton to Debbie McGee; "so tell me, what attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels?"*

*Ps: this will go over the head of anyone under approx 35yo. No offence is intended, cultural reference circa late 90s.

I can't watch him, gives me the creeps.

They're both very much adults and have been for a good while so all the best.
