Well surely we all ditched our friends in their twenties the day after we turned thirty???!!!

I didn't realise I was supposed to which is why I'll absolutely be making up for it when I'm 50 next year.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 01/06/2026 18:13

You are no longer at school, OP! You are actually allowed to have friends who are outside of your age group...

I definitely felt the age gap at your age as I was married and owned a house by then so it felt like they were at different life stages.

I no longer feel like that in my 50’s and count my children’s friends as actual friends even though they’re in their 30s. I also have a ton of friends in their 80’s through various activities I do.

Instructions · 01/06/2026 17:23

Imagine if two people got married, one age 28 and one age 26. When the older one reached the age of 30 would it be weird for them to have a spouse in their 20s? Would they need to pause or end the relationship accordingly?

Of course not. That would be daft. This whole premise is daft.

wendywoopywoo222 · 01/06/2026 17:21

Gosh that’s an odd way of thinking. I’m 60 and have friend’s in their twenties and a lovely freind who has just turned 100.

WhatALotOfAFussAboutNothing · 01/06/2026 17:20

I’m mid 40s and have friends from 24 to 70!

DappledThings · 01/06/2026 17:19

Completely ridiculous

Blarn · 01/06/2026 17:19

I've had one very good friend since I was 25, she's 20 years older than me.

Ihatelittlefriendsusan · 01/06/2026 17:17

Honestly you sound shallow and immature.

Age is just a number. Friendships should be built in more than that.

I have friends ranging from 18 to 92, from all walks and classes of life.

Mlperhaos you should start acting your age?

BauhausOfEliott · 01/06/2026 17:14

What an odd thing to say.

Yeah, you need to. Do do a mass WhatsApp saying ‘Ditching you, juvenile losers, now that I have ascended to the realm of enlightenment.’

Yes, yes, thats the exact plan.

LarksAscending · 01/06/2026 13:28

I went and worked in a resort when I was 30 where the majority of my colleagues were 18-21. I’m still friends with some now - although a couple do call me Mum 😂

ManyShapesOfPasta · 01/06/2026 13:27

I agree I'll be 50 next year and already thinking I'll have to ditch all my friends age 49 and younger...

Stage of life thing I could understand but age less so.

Smoosha · 01/06/2026 13:09

Why is it weird to have different ages of friends? If you get on you get on surely? I’m 45 and a close friend of mine is 85. We text a few times a week and meet up for lunch/dinner/coffee at least once a month.

Ipsevenenabibas · 01/06/2026 13:07

I'm 40 the three closest friends I have are 21, 48 and 79. If it's such a big deal to you then make new friends your age?!

You constantly start so many weird threads about finding the most normal things odd. Do you not have anything better to do?

?

CointreauVersial · 01/06/2026 12:56

It's true that it can be harder to keep up with friends who are at a different stage of life to you (for example, if you have settled down with kids and they are still out partying every night) but that has nothing to do with their biological age. And if they are true friends you should even be able to negotiate this.

Brenzaida · 01/06/2026 12:55

That’s an incredibly weird attitude. Anyone would think you were consorting with toddlers.

TheChicDreamer · 01/06/2026 12:55

I mean, I’m 50. And it hasn’t crossed my mind to de-friend all my friends that are still in their forties 🤷‍♀️

What an odd post.

StrictlyCoffee · 01/06/2026 12:54

Don’t be daft
