AIBU to think Nicola Sturgeon is deflecting criticism with sexism claims?

Nicola Sturgeon is cosplaying the victim, claiming that her being questioned over her ex husband's criminality is anti-women.
Is she seriously playing the woman card, when she actively deflected any criticism or investigation into SNP finances?

I would be really interested to know whether the vitriol spouting pp on this thread are actually residents in Scotland . You know, those people who actually vote for the politicians here .

It's absolutely amazing me the level of hatred being levelled at Nicola and I can't help but feel the majority of it is coming from pp who are enjoying just getting stuck into her for the sake of it rather than those who are part of the actual Scottish electorate.

I would also be interested as whether some pp are Scottish Labour supporters because Scottish Labour's pathological hatred of the SNP is well known and I'm sure they are taking great delight in Nicola's current situation.

So you are saying that the Criminal Justice System in Scotland is corrupt?
That is some accusation.

Sounds like you are a believer in Conspiracy Theories.

Oh totally, the police have never been known to turn a blind eye to the criminal actions of the rich and powerful, have they?

So you mean Nicola should have been charged with something and put on trial regardless of whether there was any evidence or not just to satisfy the people who are now baying for her blood?

I don't think the justice system is supposed to work like that.

And what a waste of public money as well.

I mean that it seems very likely that Nicola got away with something that nobody else would have. And now she needs to spend the rest of her life under that cloud.

Funny isn’t it how Murrell’s trial was originally scheduled for before put was back until after the election…

Quite. It’s certainly not fit for purpose (I work in it).

Sounds like you don't understand about basic philosophical principles.

It is not sufficient that justice is done - it must be seen to be done.

It’s bad enough that she fooled the police with her alibi but now she’s dragging it out trying to gaslight and convince the public. The chances of her not knowing the truth is very slim.

YANBU
She was a politician, of course she’s deflecting, it’s a very crucial skill.

Just going on what I saw today on bbc. I don’t know, but what she was saying there made sense to me. If there was a motorhome not on my MIL’s drive, but somewhere between her and a neighbour’s house, I’d also think it’s not hers and doubt I’d ask.
My radar is telling me she was genuine but could be totally wrong.

I have a bridge to sell you. 😂😂

So why didn’t she do anything? The red flags were flapping unless she thought she was untouchable?

Everything anyone connected with the Indy movement does you have to see through the lens of Weesht for Indy.

Think sNHS is throwing unaffordable pay rises around? Weesht for Indy.

Terrible ferry service ruining tourism on the isles? Weesht for Indy.

Dont want rapists like Isla Bryson in your single sex spaces? Weesht for Indy.

Soaring violence in Scottish schools? Weesht for Indy.

No one whatsoever is allowed to voice the many failings of the SNP as it harms the Indy cause. Weesht for Indy. Cover up the many glaring disasters and pretend we’re running this country well and we’ll get Indy.

Theres no way anyone within the SNP would raise their voices to suggest the SNP were embezzling funds unless it was so obvious they couldn’t not, which is when Jo Cherry and Douglas Chapman stood down.

LMAO. She claimed to never be in the kitchen of her home. She claimed not to have noticed the big fuck off motorhome on her MIL’s drive. She claimed to not have shut down questions on the finances despite being in video doing so. Believable my ass.

DisforDarkChocolate · 31/05/2026 20:42

She's right but I'm astounded by out of touch she was with their finances. I just cannot imagine ever being in that position or being a politician and thinking it was acceptable either.

PropertyD · 31/05/2026 20:37

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 31/05/2026 20:16

All of this. Apart from the last sentence.

That’s the word - belligerent!

tigger1001 · 31/05/2026 20:33

She is just confirming that she and her government were and still are incompetent. Not just her in fairness.

the buck stopped with her. She was party leader. Questions were being asked about the party's finances and she tried to shut them down. Why?

the two of them should never have both had the jobs they did. One of them needed to step away. Anyone could see it was a massive conflict of interest.

given how much women's rights have been trampled on by sturgeons government she really does have a hard neck pleading sexism.

@AccidentallyWesAnderson in my defence my admiration evaporated a long time ago, especially as until recently she was my MSP!

Fair enough!

fiveturds · 31/05/2026 20:22

I don’t think it would be any different if the roles were
reversed. Him being SNP leader and her embezzling. People would still be asking why he didn’t notice all the weirdly expensive shite.

GloiredeDijon · 31/05/2026 20:22

Triskellion75 · 31/05/2026 19:46

She wasn't just 'the wife' though, she was leader of the party he was embezzling. People resigned because she refused to accept there was something dodgy going on, despite multiple complaints. She's on camera belligerently shutting down any notion of the party's finances being anything but healthy.

Frankly, after trying to put an actual rapist in a women's prison she can fuck off with the 'I'm a victim of sexism' shit. And I say all this as someone who used to really admire her.

Completely agree.

Also, I found her excuses about the motorhome laughable.

She has zero credibility left.

Either she is incredibly stupid, or she is a liar.

I am inclined towards the second option.

TunnocksOrDeath · 31/05/2026 20:17

On the SNP side she should bear some responsibility over the failure of governance, but appears to have brushed off the accusations of impropriety as political pot-shots, which was very poor judgement on her part.
I believe her that she didn't know about his spending though - the marital home was bought for just £228k in 2005 and they were both being paid over 100k per annum, and have no children, so we can safely assume each of them had a very large disposable income, compared with most people's.
Other than the motorhome (which he said was his mothers) his embezzlement averaged around 29k per annum. This is a lot of money, but not so much that he couldn't have explained it away in the context of his having a large disposable income, and physically concealing some of the small items like the pen, lying about how much he paid for others, and lying how he was paying for them - e.g. monthly finance on the jaguar would have been very affordable on his salary, but he actually stole 57k to buy it outright.
I don't google DH's purchases and check his bank statements to check he's not lying to me; perhaps I ought to, but most of us just take it on trust that our partners are telling us the truth.

She was investigated by a criminal justice system that is headed up by her pal, Dorothy Bain, whom she appointed to the job.

UniquePinkSwan · 31/05/2026 20:13

I don't believe a word that comes out her mouth. I despise her. She has ruined Scotland

Dawnintheageofaquariams · 31/05/2026 20:12

If she were an innocent woman, wronged by a man, fair play.
But she was the leader of a country that couldn't control her own staff.
That's not sexist that is just incompetent management.
