Can I ask how many calories you eat on a glp 1?

Just curious. I’m also on my own non glp1 weight journey. No judgement around it whatsoever. Please can you disclose how many calories you consume. My issue is that I genuinely just eat out of boredom and having not made good choices post motherhood. I’ve lost 15 pounds very slowly. But I have made some good changes. Ie getting ready (bit of lippy) and walking to the local coffee shop instead of eating a packet of biscuits in front of the telly when bored.

Just seen a lot of friends who have always struggled with weight and had issues like pcos and thyroid issues lose weight very effectively. I can definitely keep to a deficit.

For those on 700-800 calorie diets -
you will not be getting enough protein,
nutrients or energy from this diet for healthy functioning. You will not be hitting basic daily energy requirements. Of course you will lose weight! But you will completely mess your metabolism and your endocrine system in the process.

Why do you think you seem to be only able to eat 1000 calories after doing this without putting on weight? It’s because you’ve slowed your metabolism, messed up your hormones and lost muscle.

Please listen to some of the posters on here who have lost weight sensibly without going too low on calories. They then built muscle and now eat a decent amount! Without putting it back on. That is sustainable and healthy. Love those on 2000 plus calories! The muscle needs this.

A diet of 800 calories and less should be done under strict medical supervision - what does that tell
you?

I’m shocked at how low some of these are. I’m up at 2400 or so to maintain a bmi of 20 at nearly 5ft 7 and mid fifties, post menopause.

I understand if chair or bed bound, or very petite, but I am struggling to comprehend how so many are eating so little and are apparently active, how are people even getting enough protein.

if I was eating so little my muscle would have wasted away, I’d be a mess of saggy loose skin, and by body would look like a deflated ballon, hunched, with a flat arse and no muscle.

It’s good you’re eating more then. I can assure you I haven’t “wasted away my muscles”, I’m not a “mess of saggy skin”, nor do I look like a “deflated balloon”. I’m not hunched either and my ass is not flat. In fact, I look and feel great.

I hope you weren't suggesting that people who eat less than you look like that, as it would be quite rude.

Whilst losing, around 800 to 1000 calories a day. Now I am in maintenance I consume 1200 to 1300 to maintain a BMI of 20.

Youtookyourtime · 02/06/2026 11:40

LordofMisrule1 · 02/06/2026 09:58

Honestly? Probably 600-800 per day. Not deliberately, but because I just can't stomach any more. I'm absolutely stuffed to the gills with an apple.

I'm not on it anymore, I came off it last year after hitting my goal weight but when I was on it it was nearly impossible to eat much more than that.

And now you’re off it @LordofMisrule1 still only consuming 600/800?

Proteinpudding · 02/06/2026 11:11

This thread is really quite frightening. There’s no way anyone’s maintenance calories are 1000, even a small child requires more than this a day to stay alive. Eating 800 calories every day is an eating disorder. You’re unwell and need help.

An adult should be consuming absolute minimum 1500 to survive. That’s just if you don’t move around at all. Obviously when trying to drop weight people reduce down to 1200-1300 or something and feel ok. There’s just no way anyone feels sustained on 800 cals unless you literally don’t move at all.

I lost a lot of weight years ago pre jabs and I did it initially through the 5:2 diet. Fast days were super hard for me, I felt moody, had headaches, would shake etc but I persevered for a few months till my appetite reduced overall. On non fast days I’d eat about 1400-1500. I also exercised every day- either a YouTube HIIT video, dumbbells or running. Lost the 7 stone in a year and kept it off. Now a perfectly healthy weight and long distance runner, I’d guess I eat 1800 a day.

People keep referring to small children as though being physically small means they must need the lowest amount of calories of any human.

Do you know what requires a fuckton of extra calories? Rapid growth and brain development.

Babies feed every couple of hours, by your logic the rest of us should eat ten meals a day to compete.

Swissmeringue · 02/06/2026 10:55

About 1500-1600 but my activity levels are high. I go to the gym 4/5 times a week, cycle about 5 miles a day and my step count seems to average out about 12000 a day (I don't track it super regularly though). I lost 7 stone, still have another couple to go but was trying to wean myself off the MJ and do the last bit without it just to see if I could. But now I'm pregnant so had to come off immediately 4 weeks ago. My calories have remained the same but I'm just maintaining which is probably how it should be for now.

Isobel201 · 02/06/2026 10:50

I don't really count my calories, I've been finding lately its easier for me to eat breakfast, skip lunch, then eat my main dinner mid afternoon and then I'm fine for the rest of the day. I did a check once just to see, and a weight loss limit for me was 1273, so I weighed what I was eating for one day and it added up to just below that, so I carry on without weighing now. I've lost 3 stone in a year.

Dazedanddiscombobulated · 02/06/2026 10:04

I’m not counting but on average I’d say around 1400 a day and I’m losing at a rate of 0.6kg per week. For context, I’m on an off label prescription starting with a lower BMI of 26.5 - I’m only aiming to lose enough to get me into the middle of the healthy BMI range.

LordofMisrule1 · 02/06/2026 09:58

Ineedanewsofa · 02/06/2026 09:51

I’m 5ft 10, started at BMI 30 and 100kgs. Tracked calories and aimed for 1200-1300 a day.
That took me to 75kgs (which I was so happy with!) and I decided to shift into maintaining so upped my calories to 1500 and have since lost a further 5kg so will up them again as I don’t want to go any lower and am actively trying to increase my muscle mass.

DaffodilValley · 02/06/2026 09:50

Delatron · 01/06/2026 19:19

This is a great post.

I’m sorry but nobody (and I don’t care how short you are!) will be getting enough nutrients and energy from less than a 1000 calories a day. You are just storing up problems for the future which may not be apparent now. Particularly those on 700-800.

The reason you seem to put on weight when you eat more calories is because you’ve most likely messed with your metabolism (and hormones).

You’d be better doing it slowly and steadily but with enough calories.

Please explain to me how I lose weight then?
I’m 4ft 11” (possibly less), paraplegic and doing as much exercise as I can within the constraints of my day to day life.

I eat no more than 1200 calories a day and I’m basically maintaining at that. I STRICTLY monitor my calorie intake, absolutely everything weighed.

My BMI is 30 and has been for years. If I exceed 1200 calories I can easily put on half a pound a day.

I’m so utterly sick of people making these high handed pronouncements about how much a toddler eats without a reasonable solution for those of us who can’t lose weight despite consistently eating like this for years.

Just saying that 1200 or 1100 calories isn’t enough doesn’t make it true, and it doesn’t make short people suddenly lose weight!

For me, I am 5'1" and 58. If I eat more than 1100 cals a day I gain weight. If I average 900/1000 I will lose a pound a week. The only benefit of WLI is that they make this feasible over the year or so it takes to lose the 50 pounds I carry. However as I depressingly proved to myself, this weight always goes back on at twice the rate I lose it.

Presume you must be very sedentary?

Thats the other difference in last few years, menus now all have calories on it. I pretty much always have whatever’s highest protein. No one has ever noticed I’ve eaten anything or done anything different, people are far more interested in their own food.

I never turn down socialising because there’s food, when I’m out just with my partner I have a starter and dessert.

I’m not talking about other peoples view of you

I am talking about whether being disinterested in food has impacted your enjoyment of family celebratory lunches? Dinners with friends? That kind of thing?

daffodilandtulip · 02/06/2026 09:28

It very much depends on your size and activity. I lost over six stone on 700/800 - and in fact I can’t lose if I eat over 1000. I’m moderately active with my job, gym and walking.
I’m barely five foot and my BMI is now 20. I maintain on 1000, am still on Mounjaro for maintenance.

Bridgertonisbest · 02/06/2026 09:26

I aim for a daily deficit of around 500 calories a day. That way, weight loss is slow and steady without suffering side effects like losing my hair!

When I was taking Mounjaro, I was eating around 800 a day.

Now I naturally stick to about 1500. I’m 53 and I just don’t need more than that, even though I am tall and I do a lot of exercise.

you look absolutely incredible in that dress, it suits you so well. You should be so proud of that body, looks like you worked really hard to get it 😊

Thanks, I only posted as I think the very low cals of some posters is very detrimental to them, weight loss is 80 percent diet, 2o percent exercise but it is concerning to see some of the very low cal consumption as it will lead to high levels of muscle loss.

Gardenflowering · 02/06/2026 08:53

Take out the 3 days of crappiness and the rest of the time.. OMG! I feel SO much better!

I can cross my legs, wear clothes, actual clothes and not huge baggy “curve” wear.
I can run up the steps at the train station with my heavy case without having to stop or being breathless.
I can walk for miles at pace with my music without needing to stop.
I can clean the house AND do the garden in one day instead of having to spread it over a couple of weeks.
Honestly life changing.

You’re right, counting calories would be incredibly boring. The problem is I don’t count calories as unfortunately after 35 years of dieting before GLP’s I have learned the calorie count of everything and just know what everything is by looking at it 🤦‍♀️

I suspect most people in their 40’s and above aren’t actually counting, they don’t need to, they just know.

The other weird thing about the drug is I have very little interest in food now, it’s just fuel. I eat almost the same everyday. I knew from the beginning that I had to get my protein in, everything else is secondary.

How does that impact family get together? Social events?
