Can I ask how many calories you eat on a glp 1?

Just curious. I’m also on my own non glp1 weight journey. No judgement around it whatsoever. Please can you disclose how many calories you consume. My issue is that I genuinely just eat out of boredom and having not made good choices post motherhood. I’ve lost 15 pounds very slowly. But I have made some good changes. Ie getting ready (bit of lippy) and walking to the local coffee shop instead of eating a packet of biscuits in front of the telly when bored.

Just seen a lot of friends who have always struggled with weight and had issues like pcos and thyroid issues lose weight very effectively. I can definitely keep to a deficit.

I have been on WLI (MJ) since Oct 2024. I have tended to eat 1400-1500 calories and only on odd days have I had really high suppression so as to make that tricky. Of late, I have been eating more than that so around 1800 and maintaining. The MJ has become less effective for me. While the food noise is still low, I have been eating bigger portions and snacking a bit more. I have read that it isn't advisable for most women to eat less than 1200 for any length of time as this can cause hair loss, malnutrition, loss of bone density etc.

I have recently switched to Wegovy and am just about to do my 3rd jab. After my week 2 jab, I had had a couple of days of around 800 (after over eating and getting indigestion/abdo pain) and the rest of the week at around 1200. I am surprised it's having such an effect as I have switched to a lower dose but then it is a different drug. I am having to be careful because on MJ I was getting fullness signals while eating and would stop whereas I tend to feel ok while eating and then over full and bloated on Wegovy. Given I have lost 4.5 stones, I am probably needing to eat 1200 - 1400 to see any meaningful losses so that is what I am aiming for. My current BMI is just over 27. My goal is 24.

I assume you saw a gp. As this would be biologically impossible, it takes 3-4000 cals a day to sustain a 27 stone woman depending on height.

1000 is something that needs to be investigated as it would be th4 first in human history,

Doesn’t add up, does it.

My TDEE was 2050 when I was almost 17 stone, and that was without activity as at the time I was basically static. Step count circa 250 per day at the time.

I’d assume if I’d added 10 stone on, and still didn’t move much, that would be higher.

The deficit would be huge, and either not sustainable or certainly not healthy.

and the award for most patronising post goes to you @Viviiene

Oh please. We’re fat, not thick.

99.99% of obese people know the science behind losing weight. There are a plethora of physical and psychological reasons why DOING this is made much, much harder.

Eat less calories. But that’s too little, silly fatties. The amount of fake concern on this thread is amazing.

Gettingbysomehow · 03/06/2026 13:06

1200 and its taken me two years to lose 5 and a half stone. I don't lose weight on any more calories than that. I'm 64 though, it was much easier to lose weight when I was younger..
I can have more now I'm on maintenance but I have to watch it.

AirborneElephant · 03/06/2026 13:01

1000-1500, but my maintenance is at least 2000 so I averaged a 1kg loss a week on that.

People are oddly fanatical about calories, and seem to believe there is a “right answer” to this question. A lot of people do significantly underestimate what they consume, but while straight “calories” is a reasonable proxy for actual energy absorbed available to that individual body, it’s not actually that simple really. 800 calories of bread and potato is going to make you malnourished, 800 calories of high quality protein, fiber, and fresh vegetables is likely to be fine. Whether you feel lightheaded on a significant calorie deficit is far more to do with your individual glycogen stores and the efficiency of your fat metabolism. I can fast for 24 hours easily without feeling at all lightheaded, DH needs to eat at least every 8-12 hours or he gets hangry and faint.

So back to OP, if you’re managing to make sustainable small changes to a healthier diet that’s fantastic. Very rapid losses whether through GLP or elimination diets or whatever are not sustainable unless there’s also a real effort for long term change, so you’re putting that effort in up front.

Give over
My metabolism is shot to peices as I explained up thread
Why on earth would lie about something like that

MissBecca182 · 03/06/2026 12:48

I aim for 1,200-1,300 a day. I am 5'2 and currently 82kg, down from 88kg 5 weeks ago. The 2/3 days just after my jab the appetite suppression has been insane and I sometimes struggle to eat 800cals, but it balances out by the end of the week. I prioritise protein and take good quality vitamin/fibre supplements.
I am very early in my journey though, so things might change!

Safarisagoody · 03/06/2026 12:43

Pugsrus2 · 03/06/2026 12:35

Unfortunately yes .
Do you think I would willingly choose to eat so little
I bloody love food ,as does anyone who gets to 27 stone.but I like being alive more

My BMR is 1013 and my TDEE is 1370. I lost over 6 stone on 800 calls and have never felt healthier.

I ate 75g of protein today, which is over my daily target. I always hit my macros and have always taken multi vitamins even before weight loss. I have a job where I move all day, I walk 10,000+ steps a day and I can lift 70lbs. But ok.

The fact that you genuinely appear to believe eating 800 calories a day was a reasonable thing to do is so concerning.

Pugsrus2 · 03/06/2026 08:53

I would absolutely love to of been able to do that .
But at 27 stone ,I was barely moving,I couldn't stand up long enough to cook dinner .I couldn't walk anywhere,I struggled getting upstairs.
My metabolism was shot to peices from bulimia as a teenager and yo yo dieting of loosing and gaining 5 stone many times..plus numerous pregnancies and weight gain and loss after .
I'm currently in menopause as well
I tried eating 1700 calories on monjroro and because I was so inactive at such a high weight,I didn't loose any .
I had to drop to 1000 to get any loss at all.
Now im 12 stone down .but I've had to drop very low to do it .

Crazy to see the amount of under eating. I'm a physician and lost 3 stone on MJ eating 1850 cal. Maintained now.

Where have we been hearing for years that eating less and calorie counting doesn’t work? I have known since at least the 80s about counting calories and have never heard anyone say it doesn’t work?

In terms of finances I probably don’t save as much as expected by some as I buy far better quality food now.

I thought the point was that it doesn't work in practice because most people won't stick to it over the long term, hence formerly obese people usually regain the weight lost. Ie it's not that it's wrong, it's just irrelevant.

Not eating can push your BMR even lower.

There is also a 1,200 calorie rule and health experts advise not eating below this (for women) and not below 1500 fo men. I don’t care how short you are.

I will never support anyone eating 800 calories (unless advised my a medical expert and under strict supervision). You will screw up your metabolism and then you will not be able to eat normally without putting weight on (as we have seen on here).

You can increase your BMR by eating more.

Those who are now counting calories are you making massive savings as eating probably half what you used to?

Does it surprise you how much you used to consume compared to what you eat now? Genuine question, I'm not being goady we've just heard for years that eating less and counting calories didn't work. Can you now see that it does?

This thread is really quite frightening. There’s no way anyone’s maintenance calories are 1000, even a small child requires more than this a day to stay alive. Eating 800 calories every day is an eating disorder. You’re unwell and need help.

An adult should be consuming absolute minimum 1500 to survive. That’s just if you don’t move around at all. Obviously when trying to drop weight people reduce down to 1200-1300 or something and feel ok. There’s just no way anyone feels sustained on 800 cals unless you literally don’t move at all.

I lost a lot of weight years ago pre jabs and I did it initially through the 5:2 diet. Fast days were super hard for me, I felt moody, had headaches, would shake etc but I persevered for a few months till my appetite reduced overall. On non fast days I’d eat about 1400-1500. I also exercised every day- either a YouTube HIIT video, dumbbells or running. Lost the 7 stone in a year and kept it off. Now a perfectly healthy weight and long distance runner, I’d guess I eat 1800 a day.

Oh, the BMR calculators must all be wrong then.

For those on 700-800 calorie diets -
you will not be getting enough protein,
nutrients or energy from this diet for healthy functioning. You will not be hitting basic daily energy requirements. Of course you will lose weight! But you will completely mess your metabolism and your endocrine system in the process.

Why do you think you seem to be only able to eat 1000 calories after doing this without putting on weight? It’s because you’ve slowed your metabolism, messed up your hormones and lost muscle.

Please listen to some of the posters on here who have lost weight sensibly without going too low on calories. They then built muscle and now eat a decent amount! Without putting it back on. That is sustainable and healthy. Love those on 2000 plus calories! The muscle needs this.

A diet of 800 calories and less should be done under strict medical supervision - what does that tell
you?

Yes but without the WLI balancing our hormones and blood sugars, eating less was impossible.

I think the poster can, a general consensus means most people and they will be correct. It doesn’t mean every person.

yes disabled people. Very short people etc maybe fine on this,I don’t think anyone is saying otherwise but for the majority then it is not a healthy enough consumption to maintain density and health long term.

Thank you.

Delatron · 02/06/2026 18:34

Zempy · 02/06/2026 18:01

My consultant endocrinologist disagrees with you.

I am disabled so my “calories out” side of the equation is impacted slightly. Also I am sixty, so my metabolism is working at a very different level to when I was in my forties.

Just because that level of calorie intake would be too low for you doesn’t mean you can extrapolate that to a general consensus.

Well yes I said only for people under medical supervision. So if you’re disabled then it is obviously very different. And you have been advised by a medial professional.

For most people 800 calories is too low and will cause issues. I stand by that barring anyone inactive or ill.

Yeah that makes sense, as above - I’ve got (at least a basic) understanding of BMR & TDEE.

My surprise is that anyone’s pushes them to that low calorie a diet, on a long term basis.

I know people do short term low calorie diets, but I’m (genuinely) surprised that it would be recommended for anyone to consume 800-1000 calories on a long term sustained basis.

I don’t think it’s recommended by anyone.
