To consider cancelling my holiday because of the EES?

I just can’t cope with this stress. I will be travelling alone and I can’t afford (literally or mentally) to miss a flight because of this system.

I just don’t want to go. It’s looming over me. I did it in February going into Norway, but that makes no difference. You’re still in the queue for hours. I’m flying with Ryanair and they only open their bag drop 2 hours before, they’re now saying three hours to get through. So it’ll be literally impossible.

Maybe we should stop EU citizens using our egates then. That would be fair

HelloUndies · 06/06/2026 17:19

There's only so much he can do regarding e-gates. Some countries have implemented it. The EU should be better at rollout.

There are way more important things to negotiate in the world than passport control.

I’m sorry but WTAF. Do you hate Arsenal?? You are being ridiculous. We left the EU, we are just another country now, Starmer doesn’t have anything to negotiate.

And I was, and remain, against Brexit but we are where we are

Starmer doesn’t have anything to negotiate

What was the government twittering on about last year then?

May 2025
Starmer says his deal with the EU will help British holidaymakers as they'll be able to use e-gates when they travel to Europe, "ending those huge queues to passport control".

The UK government said the move would end “the dreaded queues at border control."

Say goodbye to the long long queues at passport control
Labour is getting you on holiday faster.
Brits travelling to Europe will now be able to use e-Gates!

SophieJo · 06/06/2026 13:37

This is such a strange thread that I think it’s a troll. The Op isn’t interested in the really informed replies she gets.

HelloUndies · 06/06/2026 13:30

Also. The UK let's EU citizens use e-gates. If the EU is all so great why can't it design a smooth border process for non citizens?

Livpool · 06/06/2026 13:11

idontwanttogoanymore · 30/05/2026 23:10

They could easily negotiate a deal with the EU wherein we’re excluded from those checks. But he has to pretend to be a man of the people with his “Gooner” status.

They wouldn’t call you though would they 😂 you’re a travel agent and it’s a Saturday. You’d be their last thought

Op please stop mocking all the very reasonable , informed replies from people who fly regularly and work in the travel industry.
You obviously really want to cancel your trip , and to blame the PM , Ryanair and Brexit for an unlikely scenario.
Get help for your anxiety and have a great holiday.

Exasperateddonut · 06/06/2026 11:42

This is such a non issue. If you’re that worried just take hand luggage.

HelloUndies · 06/06/2026 11:38

Why don't you people blame the EU for bad border control.......there are Aussies who live and work in the UK who want to go on holiday to the EU... Do they deserve a bad experience at the border?

CaesarAugusta · 06/06/2026 11:24

idontwanttogoanymore · 01/06/2026 08:16

Is it?

It’s been how long and still nothing has been negotiated? Queues of tourists at the border, people missing connections, and flights. Bad enough to make national news. But all he cares about is Arsenal.

Don't you blame any of his predecessors for not negotiating this? After all, Johnson and his mates had 8 years after Brexit and actually negotiated the deal, if it's that easy surely they could have sneaked in a clause exempting British citizens from airport security queues?

A person does not have to have a physical disability to have supported assistance through an airport. That person or child may have other reasons to request assistance.

Very good point. I have often seen people online recommend that disgruntled & entitled posters specifically request “wheelchair assistance” (that they don’t actually require) in order to avoid the routine hassles of air travel, which repulses me, however other forms of disability certainly do need support. I am a big supporter of the sunflower lanyard programme which indicates ‘invisible’ disability and identifies those who may need additional assistance.

But this thread is wild. I don’t think that this amount of angry ranting about Keir Starmer & the footy warrants anything but an eye roll.

AmethystDeceiver · 30/05/2026 22:39

Yes but if 100% of Ryanair passengers were missing their flight because of their policy they would have changed it by now. Most people must be getting to their destination with their suitcases. The odds are in your favor on this

I think a lot of people flying with Ryanair don't have any checked luggage, so they can arrive and go through security an hour or more before the bag-drop opens.

Urzurtixitxigcog · 02/06/2026 18:17

Just flown with Ryanair, was self check in and bag drop off, flew from Manchester, we were there 3 hours before, very very easy

My DH is a UK citizen but is of Indian heritage so he has an OCI. He had to do finger prints and eye scan. Didn't find immigration too difficult.

Any so you'd ask the government to make immigration easier for all, you wouldn't ask to join India

😂Happy for your dh but we found the queues in Dehli to be much worse than they were in Madrid and I would not be asking the Indian Government to change immigration for me - if it bothered me so much I just wouldn't go back to India.
When a country makes life hard just stay away, go elsewhere - like the USA, I (and many others) are not visiting because of the hostile way they have behaved towards their international travellers - they might be within their rights to do so but there are plenty of other places for me to visit, I don't need to put myself through it.

HelloUndies · 01/06/2026 22:06

Renphoaddict · 01/06/2026 21:55

We recently visited India - they have introduced finger print security and it was utter chaos. I don’t think you can be so smug about the EUs failure! Delhi was a nightmare.

People say all about Brexit but don't you think even non-EU citizens should have a smooth border experience. Shouldn't everyone?

I'm an Indian citizen living and working in the UK, I have to apply for a Schengen visa before going. Am I supposed to have a long border experience whilst you all get smooth travel? Why can't the EU make the border easy for all?

HelloUndies · 01/06/2026 21:49

Again why don't you feel anger at the EU for not implementing smooth border control

Clavinova · 01/06/2026 21:42

To be fair, I'm inclined to blame Keir Starmer as well. I distinctly remember a press conference Starmer gave a year ago now - after he announced some giveaways to the EU he said his EU-reset deal was a 'win-win' and this was the end of the 'dreaded airport queues'. Quite clearly, we are still waiting.

How weird to call people disagreeing with you, and citing examples of no problem with queues... as bullying

Yeah, time to jet thus one whinge to herself I think!

I totally agree - UK citizens are feeling it because we're so close and it's annoying to spend hours in queues for a weekend away but of course we are making the queues that much longer for everyone else as well and other nationalities would like not to miss their flights home! Also they will be even more expensive if you have to buy another one.

People keep comparing it with the US but the difference is you don't get delayed leaving the US.

igelkott2026 · 01/06/2026 17:15

Thechaseison71 · 31/05/2026 20:44

But you still have to do the EES on eurostar

I didn't. I used the e-gates at St Pancras (the registration machines weren't in use but the e-gates were letting people though anyway as long as you removed your glasses and hat (DH will remember to remove them both in future ;) )) and had a manual check and stamp coming back.

I have registered but it was the day before the new scheme started so I don't know if it worked, or whether my details are available in all countries.

It wasn't on Friday in NL. 12 "desks" which were unmanned self-service machines. It makes the queues non-existent. I remember queuing forever back in the early 2000s for two desks for one flight.

Edited

It really depends on the airline though. In Amsterdam there are bag drop off machines for klm flights but often not for some of the low value or more package holiday airlines
