Would you tell a woman her gym leggings were see through?

Regular gym class. Behind a woman today who was wearing black leggings, looked fine when she was standing but as soon as she bent over they were completely see through, almost like a pair of 30 denier tights. Could see colour and shape of underwear. Would you have told her at end of class?

I was planning on doing but she was chatting to another class member at the end and stayed on for the next class so couldn't grab her outside. Feel bad now but also wasnt sure how she would react??

Nope

Breadcat24 · 30/05/2026 16:16

i did and she continued to wear them week after week- I think she liked the attention. Particularly grim if behind her in spin

Nope. Saw a woman out shopping yesterday with cycling shorts and I could actually see the shape of her public hair.

Urgh.

momager22 · 30/05/2026 16:03

No. Mine are a little bit see through in certain lights. But I choose to wear them as they are my most comfortable pair that stay up.
I do however make an effort to wear knickers that don’t show under them (beige, high leg cut) as black shoes through them the worst.
I don’t mind seeing underwear in the gym - women wear little bras and some men are shirltless so I could get offended by seeing the outline of some knickers

That’s a mad thing to be mortified about! I often wear coloured bras underneath light coloured tops, deliberately, including for work. I like the look.

Where on earth do you work that it's acceptable to have your underwear on display like that?

It would be considered unprofessional and inappropriate where I work.

morgan56 · 30/05/2026 15:49

No. There’s been a woman in my class who has a hole in her leggings 3 weeks on the trot and I can literally see her a-hole lol. She can definitely feel it, I would never tell her though.

Toober · 30/05/2026 15:47

In very obvious situations like 'skirt in knickers' mentioned above then yes, but for see through leggings I wouldn't. I'd think there's a possibility she knows and it doesn't bother her.

You sound like a kind person OP, it's weird that at least one PP has assumed you're trying to police someone's clothing instead of saving them (perceived) embarrassment.

TheBloomingDahlia · 30/05/2026 15:44

If it was a stranger I’m not sure. But I did tell my friend after I did a class with her - I just said “did you know your leggings are see through?” She didn’t. I think the majority of people wouldn’t want their leggings to be see through but might not think to check or might not have bright lighting in their house, so therefore it’s nice for someone to tell them.

I once went out in a dress I’d worn a few times before and suddenly realised it was see through in the sunlight, I wish someone had told me on one of the previous times I’d worn it!

lessglittermoremud · 30/05/2026 15:39

I think if she cared then she would have checked before putting them on?
Ive just had some 3/4 length black leggings arrive for work. I work in an environment that involves a lot of bending, scrabbling around on hands on knees, playing games etc as work in a preschool.
The first thing I did when they arrived (I had also checked the reviews to see if anyone had mentioned they were see through) was to put them on and ask my DH if he could see through them.
He thought it was hilarious, I was bending trying to touch my toes, kneeling etc all the different poses to try and see if they were.
Thankfully the consensus was that they weren’t unless I really put my bottom stretched into the air and even then if I had black knickers on no one would know, plus I plan on wearing them with longer tops.
I wouldn’t tell a perfect stranger, I quite often see mums on the school run in front of me with see through leggings on, despite seeing them practically everyday I wouldn’t tap them on the shoulder and advise them that I could see their underwear whilst walking up the hill behind them.

BunnyLake · 30/05/2026 15:24

No I wouldn’t. She’s old enough to work out what she’s wearing just like the rest of us, and I don’t want to get my head snapped off.

Viviennemary · 30/05/2026 15:22

No I wouldn't have. It's only underwear.

Moveoverdarlin · 30/05/2026 15:18

No!!

OriginalUsername2 · 30/05/2026 12:10

I wouldn’t, I’m not sure why.. maybe because she might say “So what, don’t look!” or tell me to fuck off? Or be so mortified she never comes back, then I’d feel shit?

Exactly. Not your concern really OP.

Flamingojune · 30/05/2026 15:17

At least they weren't scrunch bum

FastFood · 30/05/2026 15:14

ponyprincess · 30/05/2026 13:01

To all of those who say you want to be told do you not look in mirrors to see how you look?

What you see in the mirror and what can be seen in the street with actual daylight is very different.

Forestgreenblue · 30/05/2026 15:14

Personally I wouldn’t!

However reminds me of the time I got changed at the gym - posh gym so had nice changing ‘bays’ - there was another woman getting ready at the same time

I was ready so went for a wee before I headed for my workout (loo was between changing area and gym) and spotted in the mirror that my gym leggings had a huge hole in the seam on my bum! Could literally see my bum crack!!

Walked back into changing room to get changed to go home as I had no other leggings with me - and the woman walked past me literally unable to control her laughter. I was facing her walking towards her so she wouldn’t be able to have seen the hole from that angle so she was obvious aware of it and was willingly hoping I would walk into the gym with the hole. What a bitch.

Please - if there is ever THIS situation tell the woman!!

NotAnotherMNUsername · 30/05/2026 14:55

She might already know

Njuy · 30/05/2026 14:41

Probably those thin leggings from Primark, Temu, Shein and the like.

I don’t like see undies on show or showing through thin or light coloured clothing

TooOrangey · 30/05/2026 14:41

FKAT · 30/05/2026 13:54

Does it matter? It's a gym class, not a royal coronation. Most people are barely wearing anything - sports bras, hot pants etc. IME most gyms are full of mirrors so people can see what they look like perfectly well.

Exactly. I was at the gym this morning and was next to a 20 something woman wearing pale pink scrunch bum shorts and a matching teeny bikini type top. She looked great, albeit naked. Who cares?

Tortoisel · 30/05/2026 14:37

WhatAMarvelousTune · 30/05/2026 13:05

Not at my bum while squatting/bending, no.

I do! Took me a long time to find actually non see through leggings!

EmeraldRoulette · 30/05/2026 14:33

I see so much of this I can only assume that people know and that it's a trend.

I overheard two lads at the bus stop discussing it -with one saying that he's fine if his girlfriend dresses like that and the other saying absolutely not. It must be a choice.

so no, I wouldn't say anything.

Lahsania · 30/05/2026 14:32

EarringsandLipstick · 30/05/2026 14:21

Yes. It would be mortifying. She’d be upset, not grateful.

what does it matter really? If she asked, say, a friend, that’s entirely different.

This is your projection, that you are stating baldly as if it were a fact.

In truth, we have no idea if she’d have been grateful, defiant, paranoid, have an anxiety attack, laugh.. we don’t know the woman.

if it were me, I’d be very grateful to be told and I wouldn’t wear said leggings to yoga again.

EarringsandLipstick · 30/05/2026 14:23

OchreReader · 30/05/2026 13:56

I remember many years ago I had dressed for work hurriedly, and it was only when I arrived I realised my pink bra was visible in its entirety beneath my white t-shirt. I was mortified, but when I mentioned it to a colleague she seemed surprised and said she’d assumed I was accessorising!
since then I check my clothing from all angles before leaving. If I was her friend I would tell her, but otherwise I would leave it.

That’s a mad thing to be mortified about! I often wear coloured bras underneath light coloured tops, deliberately, including for work. I like the look.

EarringsandLipstick · 30/05/2026 14:21

FeelingALittleWoozyHere · 30/05/2026 12:19

Just to check i am understanding you- Its not kind to tell her?

Yes. It would be mortifying. She’d be upset, not grateful.

what does it matter really? If she asked, say, a friend, that’s entirely different.

Lahsania · 30/05/2026 13:56

People be a tiring mixture of defiant/paranoid these days. Exhausting, isn’t it.

It is 🤣
