Would you tell a woman her gym leggings were see through?

Regular gym class. Behind a woman today who was wearing black leggings, looked fine when she was standing but as soon as she bent over they were completely see through, almost like a pair of 30 denier tights. Could see colour and shape of underwear. Would you have told her at end of class?

I was planning on doing but she was chatting to another class member at the end and stayed on for the next class so couldn't grab her outside. Feel bad now but also wasnt sure how she would react??

I wouldn’t, I’m not sure why.. maybe because she might say “So what, don’t look!” or tell me to fuck off? Or be so mortified she never comes back, then I’d feel shit?

Yup. The first was what used to happen when we told girls at work (in a Scottish high school) that their underwear was showing through their 'leggings' (actually woollen tights, IMO). They'd wear bright red underwear through crochet/knitted type leggings.

You might appreciate it, but many would not and the reaction could just as easily be extreme embarrassment or an aggressive rebuttal.

This. Maybe she knows and she doesn't care. Maybe she wants attention. Maybe she doesn't. Maybe she wears them because they are cool, being thinner, and she's not interested in others opinions about it...

How do you tactfully tell someone that you can see through their gym clothes and suggest you're doing it out of concern instead of being a bully? Especially since they may not share your "concern".

It's just a hard no for me.

JMSA · 31/05/2026 16:24

No, most definitely not.

Mental health is not a gift that all are in receipt of. Aggressive rebuttals being so widely feared is a proof of this. Relaxed happy people don’t aggressively rebut helpfulness, even if the help isn’t required.

As long as she’s not indecent (which she isn’t as the OP could only see her kecks), it’s nobody’s business.

Look the other way 🤷‍♀️

There are plenty of unpleasant sights when you go out in public, let people get on with it

The funny thing is, in this thread, people vary in their responses. So weird isnt it.

If I was her I would really appreciate someone pulling me aside to give me a heads up.

I think if you read the interchange again, you might understand it. The thread confirms that it isn’t odd at all to think that a person might choose to wear more discreet leggings, if in full awareness of their inadequate coverage.

I would. I pulled over in my car the other day to tell an older lady that her skirt was tucked into her knickers... Why wouldn't you try to save someone's embarrassment.

That’s a bit different though - nobody intends to have their dress in their kecks

This hypothesis simply has to be a fact, I guess. Presenting any hypothesis baldly means it’s true.

What are you talking about.

Lahsania · 31/05/2026 15:36

FannyNesbet · 31/05/2026 15:26

Nope. She probably knows and wore them for that reason.

maybe do read yourself, because I can see a lot of these, to quote just one:

She probably already knows seems to be a fad atm

Oh ok. Thanks.

they can confirm that a random stranger is bothered that the leggings she uses in a gym class are see-through? 😂Mind readers are we?

why do you even think she doesn't know or would care? Odd reaction from you

Exactly!

Breadcat24 · 31/05/2026 15:01

I think people on this thread are assuming that everyone wears underwear under their gym leggings. Sadly some do not

OnlyHasEyesForLoki · 31/05/2026 14:49

I wouldn’t tell her unless she wasn’t wearing any underwear and everyone could see her actual bits. In my gym classes we often see each other’s nipple outline and underwear through our gym gear and it’s no big deal.

Asthenia · 31/05/2026 14:46

the leggings I wear to the gym are see through 🤷‍♀️ they’re pretty old and I’m waiting until I’ve lost more a bit more weight to treat myself to new gym clothes which are expensive. It personally doesn’t bother me at all if people can see my big black granny pants through them but some people would be mortified I imagine? If someone told me my leggings were see through I would think they were just trying to be thoughtful by letting me know and wouldn’t be offended, but equally I just couldn’t care less what other people are wearing, see through or not!

There is a lot more wrong with the mindset of teenage boys talking like this than the see through leggings.

no, they’re just normal, talking about what they see. It’s really not taboo to talk about what you see.

RollOnSunshine · 31/05/2026 13:47

No. Abolutely not
