Are adults who give babies tablets showing American cartoons at full volume in medical waiting rooms the lowest form of life? (Serious, not in any way light-hearted)

But children don’t have to watch cartoons on max volume with no headphones

Bigbrat · 29/05/2026 16:58

Well children have to go there too, and that's life

Bloody colouring pens what's wrong with that

Yes let a baby loose with some colouring pens in a doctors surgery, what could possibly go wrong 🙄.

The mum should clearly not have the volume on but if you are really judging a mum trying to occupy a young child in a doctors surgery then you are the arsehole. I do a LOT of reading and imaginative play with my kids and they don’t own a tablet and have very limited screen time but there are certain situations where I will give them my phone if I really need them to behave in public for a short period.

LizzieSiddal · 29/05/2026 16:55

Why the heck can’t parents use headphones fir their child?

It’s rude, selfish and lazy parenting to think everyone wants to listen to Peppa Pig.

BeardySchnauzer · 29/05/2026 16:55

It’s fine to be all ‘live and let live’ when the behaviour has no impact on you. But this is a waiting room full of, presumably, sick people who may be tired or grumpy and the parents choice is impacting on them negatively

Are you a Bigbrat raising small brats?

I'm a big brat raising perfectly well behaved and quiet children .. who also will have a tablet if it helps me at that moment

LoisGriffinskitchen · 29/05/2026 16:53

Peak MN here sneering at others. Nice!

ThisChirpyOpalCat · 29/05/2026 16:51

YANBU,

however not as bad as the man two rows in front of me in a quiet hospital waiting room, who was looking at pornographic pictures on his iPad and zooming in on what I assume he thought “the best bits”…

What is the babies parent doing?

FrogsAreMean · 29/05/2026 16:47

I think you are being completely unreasonable and ridiculously over dramatic to say “they are the lowest form of life” and “but can you think of lower forms of life”.

YES I can think of lower forms of life - how about criminals such as murderers or paedophiles etc!

You must have lived a sheltered life is all I can say!

MotherofPufflings · 29/05/2026 16:45

How do you think those of us who had children pre-tablets managed? If you must insist on doing this, at least have the decency to give your child headphones. Please.

Bit patronising.. do you not think I could be from that era too lol

Dreamerinme · 29/05/2026 16:47

Yes, lazy parenting.

I used to always carry things for DS to play with in the pram when we went places I.e as a baby he had those touchy feely books that attach to the pram on a coil, various rattles, soft toy, toys with lights but no sound, etc. As he got older it was board books, toy cars and trucks, etc. Do people not do this anymore? Can children not find entertainment in these things unless it’s a screen?

I think thats's unfair. I do this with mine albeit I make sure it is as quiet as possible. However the alternative would be running around, moaning, constant chit chat... Sometimes we have to weigh up pros and cons

So you don't do it with yours at all then, unless your version of 'as quiet as possible', is full volume 😳

NotTheOrdinary · 29/05/2026 16:46

No.

They are just trying to get through the day.

No volume at all is necessary. Or you could bring some books - that’s what happened in the olden days
