Are adults who give babies tablets showing American cartoons at full volume in medical waiting rooms the lowest form of life? (Serious, not in any way light-hearted)

I think thats's unfair. I do this with mine albeit I make sure it is as quiet as possible. However the alternative would be running around, moaning, constant chit chat... Sometimes we have to weigh up pros and cons

Noooooo. It is not either or.

I have not read anything more ridiculous on this thread than this. It’s the government’s fault you can’t say no to your child?

really, get a grip.

If you read my post and think it's ridiculous you agreeyou'd rather have your child depressed and bullied than give them a tablet.
I was saying it's a societal issue not an individual one. The government have the power to help parents with these issues.

People's anger should really be directed at the government, not the parents (although I get leaving the sound on is annoying). Can we all remember that no one gets parenting 100% right and giving a bit of grace never killed anyone. Tablets for kids is quite normal and a lot of parents do it; they even use tablets in schools and even some nurseries. Tablets are used for homework in some schools. There is even pressure on parents as most kids have phones/tablets and those that don't can get bullied in some cases.

If people have such issues with tablets then take it up with the government not individuals 😅 if tablets/smartphones were banned for kids under certain ages then it would be easier for parents. I don't want my baby to have a smart phone (just one of those old Nokia ones would do so I can contact her), but terrified of the day when she tells me she's the only one in her class and she feels left out, lonely, and is losing friendships because of it. Or worse being teased or bullied. What will I do then? I don't know is the answer, I just hope smart phones get banned for kids before she is that age.

BeardySchnauzer · 30/05/2026 17:48

Kazoos!! Do some people have hearing they can switch off to annoying noise? Because surely that would have driven the parents themselves nuts?

NotDarkGothicMama · 30/05/2026 17:46

The parents who gave their young children kazoos before all getting on our 9-hour flight were about to be worse. I'm afraid I didn't hold back and a calm, kazoo-less journey was enjoyed by all.

BeardySchnauzer · 30/05/2026 17:33

Yes the government should issue every parent with a set of child sized headphones when they leave the maternity ward 🙄

AgnesMcDoo · 30/05/2026 17:11

CurdinHenry · 29/05/2026 16:35

But can you think of lower forms of life?

Rapists child abusers murderers drug dealers

I hate it and i also think it 's creating an issue for when they grow. Lack of attention span, lack of socialisation. So many children and young people who cannot cope without a screen. It's a lack of thought for others too.

BeNavyLion · 30/05/2026 16:38

@Beyondamountainandoverthesea agreed - I don't agree with having the volume on loud as it's a little annoying, but saying they're the lowest form of life is a bit of an exaggeration 😅

newmenewwhatever · 30/05/2026 16:32

It’s the lowest form of lazy arse parenting.
anything but parent their child.
scum of the earth

Superhansrantowindsor · 30/05/2026 16:26

Plenty of ways to occupy a child without a tablet. Parents have managed for years. If you don’t want to use headphones ditch the tablet.

I think you know full well that you posted something silly and now you're trying to backtrack. It's okay to say your post was poorly worded and you don't stand by it.

I posted that tablets should be quiet and you took that to mean I believe tablets are ok at a level that a whole room can hear, ie loud (the opposite of quiet). I posted that it is better for a DC to be distracted, as part of a flowing conversation where other posters stated they like to see DC interacting with others that you obviously failed to follow. 'Some' is different to 'the only way ie tablets'. I haven't backtracted, I have emphasised what I wrote originally. This is 100% an issue with your comprehension. I'm not the one being obtuse or stupid here.

WhatHappenedToYourFurnitureCuz · 30/05/2026 16:02

Forgottheforgetmenots · 30/05/2026 15:10

No I didn't. It is not my fault that your compreshension skills are poor. I presume that you are here to argue regardless of what I post rather than engage in meaningful conversation. I'm not here for that.

Quiet isn't silent.

You set up a false dichotomy where they were either watching a tablet or talking to strangers.

I don't like American cheese.

Is your problem with the fact that the cartoons are American? If so you are a xenophobe.

So sick of this attitude. Children are their own person. You cannot control a child anymore than you can control an adult. If a child acts like a child and they refuse to stop or starts doing something else that people don't approve of then what? What is this magical control that parents are meant to have? I hate this turn of phrase and cannot fathom it!

Nonsense!

You can control a child, you should control a child and, what's more you have a duty to control a child.

No wonder with this sort of soft, slope headed thinking ,more and more teachers are leaving the classroom and everyday we have a poster appear terrified of her own child...even 5 year old children.

Get a grip, stop pissing about ang get controlling.

Temporaryname158 · 30/05/2026 11:40

It’s something I think receptionists, train conductors airline staff etc should now be trained to manage and be on top of.

so many inconsiderate parents out there. Headphones solves this problem and they should be mandatory

Do you seriously think seriously ill people should have to listen to children's TV in A&E?
From my post 'Yes the tablet should be quiet'.

And do you seriously think the only two options are tablet or talking to strangers?
From my post 'I'd prefer them distracted in some way.'

Quiet isn't silent.

Hmmm. I was in a&e with my hysterical 20 month old and no amount of reading/playing/cuddling was soothing him....hence needing a&e. When the doctor arrived she said 'haven't you got a phone he can watch something on?'. He doesnt get much TV and doesnt have a tablet and I'd left my phone in the car in the rush to get him to A&E so the answer was 'no'. She went off and returned with a tablet which she proceeded to put pepppa pig on at increasingly loud volumes so it could be heard over his crying. It had no effect on soothing my son, but as it was a hospital provided tablet set on (increasing) volume by the doctor I can only presume they felt it was acceptable.

Well yes but that was whilst being examined, anything to shut them up. The issue is sat in a waiting room subjecting a load of ill people to loud kids crap on phones/tablets.

Why would you have left your phone in the car anyway surely family would have wanted updates.

So. Parents yes use screens when cba to interact just do so with earphones, it shouldn't need spelling out.
