I have 2 kids age 3 and 6 and I often have wobbles over whether I’m feeding them enough or the right things…

So a non shaming thread where I can see what ‘average’ looks like would be helpful!

I’ll start because it’s annoying when OP doesn’t do that:

Breakfast - bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese (NOT a normal breakfast, it was about to go off! They both had 1 half of the bagel as the top had ‘yucky seeds on’)

Snack - Apple, handful of crackers

Lunch - Bowl of pasta from last night dinner with a jar sauce, carrot and crumbly cheese

Snacks - melon, chocolate rice cakes (2 each)

Dinner will be chicken curry with rice.

They still seem to act like I’m starving them!

DS7 - breakfast - brioche and strawberry’s.
snack- cherrys and a white kit kat
Lunch - cheese and salad sandwich, orange and pack of crisps.

Dinner - we had a bbq. Think he had steak and chicken wings

DS12 - breakfast - boiled eggs and toast

(Was a bad day for fruit and veg for him)

4yo and 1yo;
Breakfast - 4yo a yoghurt, an apple, half a pear and a little scotch pancake
1yo a shitload of rice crispies (her brother really wanted to sort her breakfast so I didn’t have any say 😂), the other half of her brothers pear and some ham (again, her brothers doing, she loves ham 😂)

Snack at toddler group - banana, grapes, rice cake, strawberries and cheese cubes (4yo also had buttered toast)

Lunch, at a cafe with my mum - cheese and ham toastie (4yo gave said ham to 1yo), cucumber, tomatoes, red pepper and 4yo had chips too

Afternoon snack (of sorts, while in the supermarket!) - 4yo sour cream and chive mini rice cakes
1yo prune pouch and a couple of the rice cakes

They shared a couple of leftover sausages from a bbq yesterday while I was cooking then tea was a sort of creamy rice ‘casserole’ of sorts, with chicken, broccoli etc. They absolutely loved it, then 4yo had a mini m&s pannacotta (fancy pants 😂) 1yo had a yoghurt

I think we have similar 7 year olds! 😅

Seems so! Mine ate an entire tub of popcorn at the cinema yesterday and had pasta for tea. But very strictly only penne with tomato puree and grated cheese. But the cheese and the pasta must be separate.

Never pursued it but he'd definitely meet the criteria for a diagnosis of ARFID!

ThreeStripeQueen · 28/05/2026 20:28

14 and 15 year old boys
Breakfast- Yoghurt, strawberries, blueberries banana and pain au chocolat
Lunch was out- one had Mexican scrambled eggs on sourdough with a Nutella milkshake,
the other had a chilli chicken wrap and a mocha,
Dinner- peach and burrata salad with pistachios
barbecued steak, ciabatta, new potatoes, broccoli, asparagus,
hot pineapple and ice cream,
In the evening they ate half a pack of amaretti biscuits between them and probably had a chocolate biscuit, fruit, yogurt or crackers through the day. I don’t really monitor their snacks, they’re both fit and healthy.

Holy moly, how can people afford teenage boys!!

Its the cereal consumption that amazes me. I also grow a lot of food, strawberries, gooseberries, black berries, raspberries, blueberries, rhubarb, apples, pears, cherries, plums and loads of veg. We have a few grape vines, but only get a few bunches per per and they can be a bit sour. It really helps.

Wow! Their parents must be thrilled at the quality of grandparent care here, I would be! 😋

Thank you for the compliment, Twister. The two I had today are the youngest of eight — the eldest is almost 21. I’m lucky that I’m given free rein with all of my brood, and it’s just as well I am because I could never get to grips with baby-led weaning. It scared the bejesus out of me, despite me trying to take it in my stride, and I was told very early on, “Just feed them the way you fed us.” So I did, and still do.

I have managed to adopt a lot of the new ways of doing things/ideas and I have the greatest respect for young parents today who have to know so much.

Would you believe that I breastfed 5 children, one of them for almost 3 years, but it was only when I became a granny for the first time that I learned how breast feeding actually worked. My daughter explained it to me. I’m in awe of the things my daughters and daughters in law know.

Cereal with milk
Banana
Tuna sandwich with cucumber and tomatoes
An orange
A biscuit
Some chicken pieces
Beef stir fry
An ice lolly

They both eat almost equal amounts despite the age difference. Two year old ate slightly less of the stir fry.

Peaceandcheese · 28/05/2026 18:46

Kids can eat an incredible amount of food. 4 year old today has had egg and soldiers for breakfast, usually has porridge. Lunch at nursery was a pasta dish with garlic bread. At home he’s had a plate of curry, rice and poppadoms followed by a bowl of strawberries and blueberries. He’s in the bath now, planning what his supper will be! He usually has something like a banana, yoghurt, oatcakes and cheese, peanut butter sandwich etc for supper. There have been evenings where he’s had all of these even after a big plate of dinner!

CelticSilver · 28/05/2026 18:45
