Moment Dame Helen Mirren is called an 'evil Zionist b****' in London

The video, first posted by an anonymous account Anti-Fascist Action UK, shows the Oscar-winning actress being approached as she walked in London with her husband.

No, because a state that happens to have ideas of religious destiny receives massive amounts of money and weaponry and does not feel safe unless bombing its neighbours apparently?

False framing and also inapplicable appeal to underdog sympathy.

Israel bombs its peaceful neighbours for no reason whatsoever? Never been attacked by them?

Repetition and word salad

How is word salad? I think pp’s points are quite clear.

@bloooooberry I am leaving this thread and going to kitchen duties, but thank you for your interventions and wish you a peaceful and good evening

Was that after the genocide by Palestinians on Israelies or anyone that happened to in Israel at the festival or at the Kibbutz on October 7th?

*was what after? 'That' in your question does not have a clear referent.

Yes, we are talking about Helen Mirren being shouted at recently. No time travel involved.

Gaza: Operation 'Cast Lead'

It has been four years since the 2008-9 conflict in Gaza and Southern Israel ended. Despite clear evidence of war crimes committed by both sides in the 22-day conflict, the victims are yet to receive justice.

I do not take my cues from Jeremy Corbyn.

Antizionism is one of the forms of anticolonialism, for me. https://www.sydneycriminallawyers.com.au/blog/anti-zionism-is-anti-colonialism-not-antisemitism/

Anyway, there are Zionists, including in Israel, who are critical of the current state and the killing and land grabs.

More than one thing can be true: Helen Mirren is a public figure with years of making public statements, and this is blowback. And it is always wrong for men or anyone to shout at elderly women. And individuals are losing their shit, both postpandemic and because of the immorality of current governments, the widening wealth gap, fear of climate catastrophe, etc.

Israel isn't only a Jewish state...there are indigenous Christians (often fleeing or being persecuted) and indigenous Muslims, and no doubt atheists, agnostics, mixed people, and more exotic migrants. Christians have dwindled from about 29% to about 2% over the last decades. Genocide is happening, also indirectly by starvation and sickness.

I do support a one state solution with safeguards.

He called her a zionist pitch. If that's not anti zionist. Codeword used by antisemitism is zionist, even Jeremy Corbyn agreed thst happens. It's wrong even though some people think its ok. It really isn't.

Anti-Zionism Is Anti-Colonialism, Not Antisemitism

Supporters of Israeli genocide and illegal occupation of Palestinian Territories are quick to label any criticism as antisemitic, when it is in fact anti-genocide and anti-colonial.

Ephraim Karsh explains very well why this is the case
https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3187108

And in the meantime we're assured that if only israel didnt exist, there would be peace and harmony in the middle east...

"Abstract
Self-serving interventionism under the pretense of pan-Arab solidarity has transformed the bilateral Palestinian-Israeli dispute into a multilateral Arab-Israeli conflict, thereby stirring unrealistic hopes and expectations in Palestinian political circles and, at key junctures, inciting widespread and horrifically destructive violence. The consequence has been to increase the intensity of the conflict and make its resolution far more complex and tortuous, leaving the Palestinians stateless for seven decades."

Some don't appear to want to solve the problem. Seems easier to just hate Israel. Iran with its proxy terrorists constantly lobbing missiles from all directions at Israel.

Its sad.

Would you like to start a thread in the Conflict in the Middle East section?

Yes, it is wrong to shout at elderly women in the street.

It was not an antiZionist protest but an example of rage.
I blame the man's rage partly on our government's failure to lead.

I believe that the ICJ, UN, etc make considered and evidenced expert judgments, which are not the same as opinion.

I believe in the value of thought experiments, and do not accept a religious basis for the foundation of any modern state.

Helen Mirren suffering assault is an excuse for what to me looks like state propaganda on this thread. Hardly feminist.

"Two Jews, three opinions..."

Plenty on land, the covenant, and idolatry by various rabbis. Here is one https://www.reconstructingjudaism.org/dvar-torah/land/

And yes, quite rightly there will be any number of rabbis with different or opposong takes. But this view and others like ot does exist.

Land - Reconstructing Judaism

Parashat Behar is primarily concerned with rules and regulations pertaining to the land of Israel. We read the description of the laws governing the sabbatical (“Shmitta”) years in which the land was to lie fallow one out of every seven years. We learn...

No answer then, right?

Youve been going in circles trying to justify why you give not a shit about anything else in the world (apparently not televised enough) and now it's whatbouttery.

Apparently asking for a detail on a generality is too granular and asking why no one is shouting at old ladies in the streets about Sudan is whataboutery.

Or you just have no answers..let's be honest

Helen grew up in westcliff on sea, with its big Jewish community. She went to school with Jews and will definitely have had Jewish friends. If she still follows her home town at all she will doubtless be disgusted by Palestine protesters from outside of town coming in to harass local Jews especially on Sabbath and festive days. I have no idea if she stands by what she reportedly said all those years ago but I'm sure she has the highest regard for the Jewish community and rightly so.
Like most of us round here.

You see, you can speak in generalities when you're talking bs.

I am finding it more interesting to note your rhetorical tactics.

Meantime maybe some other thread readers are Googling Ilan Pappé.

No colonial powers gave anyone anything. Unlike, say, Jordan which was literally created out of mandatory Palestine by the Brits (fact). Like I said, totally inaccurate and weird comparison.

And its not about belief, its about facts.

Jews were forcibly expelled from their homeland. Fact.

Jews always prayed and wanted to return. Fact.

Many jews did return over the years under ottoman and British rule (and previosily depending who ruled - never ever palestinian btw). Fact.

The return of the Jews to their homeland could easily have been done without conflcit with compromise and agreement. Fact.

Many Arabs themselves migrated to mandatory Palestine from other surrounding countries due to the economic success as a result of Jewish migration. Fact.

The brits did promise at different times to give the land to Arabs or Jews. In the end, they handed the problem to a UN commission which proposed partition. Fact.

Palestinian jews accepted UN proposed partition, Palestinians Arabs rejected any Jewish self determination in mandatory Palestine, no compromise. Fact.

Civil war began. Fact.

Brits had enough trying to contain the civil.and just unilaterally. left. On the day they departed,.Palestinian zionsits declared the state of Israel. Palestinian Arabs don't (they could have, the brits had upped and gone). Fact

So turn those facts into a "thought experiment "

Repetition and word salad
