To think people that don’t round up ages are odd

Friend is 30 late July and is still saying he’s 29 when I was that close to my 30th I was just saying I was 30

I think it’s odd to round up once you are an adult as it’s the sort of thing that children do to make them sound older.

Wordsmithery · 27/05/2026 00:38

You're odder.

Frazzledmummy123 · 26/05/2026 23:39

Total click bait post. OP has vanished.

Toober · 26/05/2026 23:38

I've always found rounding up odd! If I'm turning 30 on a certain date, I'm 29 until that date.

BertieBotts · 26/05/2026 23:36

In Germany it's bad luck to do this. It's thought of as tempting fate. It's also bad luck to wish someone happy birthday before their actual birthday, they say that if you do this the person might die before their birthday so it's incorrect to wish them a happy birthday in advance (or "round up" as you call it...)

German customs can be a little bit dark.

DesperatelyConfused6 · 26/05/2026 23:31

It's DC2s birthday next month, but I am saying that they are almost 8yo. I'm not sure if I'd do that if they were adults though 🤔

I've started counting backwards 😁

I'm liking your style. Maybe I'll go back to 55 & stay there! 🤣

Somerford · 26/05/2026 23:29

He's 29 until he's 30

You're definitely the odd one. Your friend is 29.
I remember when DS was small and I was at a group of some kind. One of the other Mums there had a son who was a day older than mine. I mentioned that our boys were 2.5, and she told me off! Apparently it was totally unacceptable to "wish their lives away" as they weren't 2.5 for another 2 weeks. Hmm

So many varieties of batshit!!🤣🤣

@Sweetypie88 your annoyance is weird, for someone going by their actual age & doing you absolutely no harm and how come you are hearing thus so often it's annoying you? I rarely hear adults giving their age.

I'd probably say 'nearly 30' , but when I was 29 I'd have said 29 because I really did NOT want to be 30!

I'm 57, I can't imagine a situation where I'd be giving my age that I'd say 60 before my 60th birthday.

though just typing that us a bit of a mind fuck. How the hell can I be nearly 60, I swear 5 minutes ago I was 30!!

NotTerfNorCis · 26/05/2026 23:26

Actually I do this (rounding up when it's a month or so off) but I don't think it's all that usual.

InterestedDad37 · 26/05/2026 23:24

I've started counting backwards 😁

PeachMelbaYoghurt · 26/05/2026 23:24

I totally thought this was gonna be a thread about the annoying people who write "my child is 2.67mo", in my head I'm always like, "there are 12 months in a year dickhead, why are you using decimals?!"

StrictlyCoffee · 26/05/2026 23:22

Don’t be daft OP.

my birthday is tomorrow but I’d still not round up today!

HappiestSleeping · 26/05/2026 23:18

I'm 21 with 35 years of experience.

madnessitellyou · 26/05/2026 23:17

I’m 47.

Until my 47th birthday I was 46.

Believe me op give it another 10 years and you’ll not be rounding up.

Ponoka7 · 26/05/2026 23:15

So someone asks his age, he says 30 and they ask what he did for his 30th, then he's got to confess he is 29 and you don't think that would be odd? You only round up for children.

XenoBitch · 26/05/2026 23:15

YABU I am clinging to every bit of youth I can

Squirrelsnut · 26/05/2026 23:15

How odd..

WaltzingWaters · 26/05/2026 23:15

Err, no, you’re the odd one here!

PercyPigsAreOverRated · 26/05/2026 23:14

Harhar · 26/05/2026 23:08

Yeah, they’re really odd. I round up my door number too. I live at number 4 but I always say 5.

That explains why i keep getting post for you! Grin

Growlybear83 · 26/05/2026 23:13

Why on earth would anyone round up their age? if you’re 29, you’re 29 not 30!

MyKidsAreTooNoisy · 26/05/2026 23:12

I hope this is a genuine post. 🤣

Changeisstillpossible · 26/05/2026 23:10

I used to live in a country where this was the conventional way of describing age. There, I was the weird one for not rounding up!

But rounding up isn't the norm in the UK.

MsGreying · 26/05/2026 23:09

CypressGrove · 26/05/2026 22:57

I've never heard of any adult rounding up their age.

I stopped rounding mine down ten years.

SnappyUmberLion · 26/05/2026 23:08

You’re the odd one. When we get to October, will you round up the year to 2027?
