To not take the full time job

Background context: very single parent of 2. Both with additional needs and EHCPs. One attends a specialist setting. Dad hasn't seen them in 9.5yrs. I do rely on UC top up for support.

I've worked hard to put myself through uni and my masters. I now currently have an 0.5 contract in a very niche role.

Im finding my very niche role is seen as a threat by other related teams. I work for my LA but in a role that is very much not the LA, it is quote complex but think legal advisory for service users. We are a tiny team and there is a big jump between my role and our service manager. I absolutely do not have the experience to take the manager role if she ever leaves, I need a bridge to get there. Therefore, I am a bit of a dead end.

My current role has the potential very soon to go full time. It's a 33k a year salary.

I also secured an interview for a 0.7 role on 35k a year. This is breaking out of my team into the main LA. It could give me far more opportunities to progress and is a break away from a job that I feel somewhat trapped in due to the nature of it. I would like to be full time but I feel this could be a better long term stepping stone.

The other risk is I can do my current job around my family life, even full time. We don't have an office so I can be reliably home to meet transport for my specialist child. My manager knows I'm great at what I do so trusts me that if I need to pause for the hour when my DD gets home that I will always log on in the evening etc. I would potentially be moving team to a team with office time and where the manager does not know me and I dont have that proven track record yet. I will need to be open about needing to meet transport as much as possible and would hope to do 9-2 4 days, 9-3 1 day.

If i am offered the job on this basis, would I be mad to take it and not the full time position in my current team?

I assume you’d be unlikely to get those hours in another job so I’d take the 0.7 one.

Take the 0.7 job, if you can agree working hours etc.
