Partner lying in bed on hottest day of the year …would you be annoyed ?

I think it’s odd that you let your plans be dictated by him - he wants to leave a concert so ‘you’ leave. He doesn’t want to go to the beach so ‘you’ don’t go to the beach. I think you should do the things you enjoy regardless of him. But yes, cancelling plans regularly while prioritising other things means this might not be a great relationship for you.

He works 6 days a week and you want him to go with you to the beach or even worse a boot sale on a scorching hot day, while he feels ill??

I can’t believe a sore throat was his excuse leaving a gig early you should have stayed told him to get over himself I get he might be tired but that was a waste not seeing the main act. Leave him to . Op next time he wants to do something and you don’t leave him to it. Most football fans won’t miss it for anything I bet he was shouting making his throat worse.

Why can’t you go to the beach without him? Honestly I leave DH to it when he’s sick, can’t be arsed to watch a medium ill person lay it on so thick.

That would be fair enough if he hadn't had a miraculous recovery to spend 10 hours at the football only to fall ill again the next day.

Is he always like this, ie controlling what activities you go to? Ie. Are your trips out always in his terms?

I'm curled up on the sofa, parts under a blanket parts with a fan on me with a cold thats mostly a bad cough and throat, i wouldn't choose to be outside either!

i think a lot of posters have missed that he had two days off this week - he chose one for football and the day that he and his supposed loved one had plans - he’s decided to lie in bed instead. The whole point for the op is that this cold has been too bad to spend the time allocated to her, but absolutely not too bad at all to go to football all day.

Do your own thing. Leave him to it.

He was well enough to go football yesterday so he is absolutely taking the piss today.

@luluxxx get one of those waterproof phone pouches for swimming. You can fit your phone and car keys in that then you aren't reliant on someone being back on the beach with your stuff.

6 days a week you say? You know how the Russian revolution happened and they killed the Royal family and all the landed gentry? Because the working classes were fucked too hard. Leave your partner alone, let him rest. Alternatively you go and work 6 days a week and then go to concerts he wants to go to and then revisit this question of yours.

You can get a waterproof pouch for your stuff. Or just leave all the valuables at home, and tuck the car key into your bathing suit, fastened with a small carabiner.
I sometimes vacation on my own and still want to go swimming, so that's what I would do (although I also often just leave my stuff on my towel and hope for the best. Or ask a friendly looking fellow sunbather to keep an eye on my stuff. Would depend on which beach though)

Him being fine for football but not other plans is suspect!

Why didn’t you stay alone to watch the main act at the music thing?

Is this a relationship you really want to be in op? You’ve said it yourself - given the chance to do something with his mates - he’ll take it, given the chance to do something with you - he’ll lie in bed. That can’t make you feel very good. I would really advise absolutely everyone to learn to love being alone, it gives you so much freedom to leave relationships that don’t make you happy.

Spending the day solo, reading in the park enjoy the sunshine in peace is my idea of heaven!

We are all home today
I was going to do a bbq later but the kids aren’t enjoying the heat so I’ll cook inside and do some salads etc..
my kids are in the lounge, blinds shut with a fan on playing as they just don’t tolerate the heat and I’m not a huge fan either - my partner and I are sorting stuff out and I’d love to be lying down!

It depends on whether or not you had made plans together, or just assumed he was going to spend the day with you.

Yeah I’d be annoyed he only seems to be ill when it’s not something he’s chosen to do, leave him to miss out on the sun, enjoy your day.

Yeah I’d be really pissed off about leaving the gig early, then he’s fine to be out all day for what he wants to do, but then can’t get out of bed today.
But reading a book and sunbathing sounds like the dream. So I’d make the most of that.

YANBU to be fed up that he wanted to leave the gig but went to the football

YABU to resent him staying in bed when he gets very few rest days and has a sore throat

YABU not to have headed to the beach on your own, if that's where you wanted to go.

YASSB (stark staring bonkers) to have wanted to go to a car boot sale on a day like this!

But he does sound selfish, in general.
