Really depressed I didn’t just go on Ozempic - only maintained for a year

I don’t know I really need a rant.

I feel really angry and upset at myself. To the point i just want to scream/cry.

Last year i lost 55 pounds without glp 1s. I totally cut out carbs (well I’d eat sweet potatoes if absolutely necessary). And just made an effort not to use food as a crutch. It worked fairly well as the weight came off.

I decided I needed more moderation. The no carb thing was just making me have cravings. So I started eating jackets, pasta salads etc. Not ideal as I have pcos but I try to be sensible. Ie having cooled down pasta to make it resistant or whatever. Not smothering pasta in cheese etc.

Its meant my weight loss has completely stalled. I’m happy that I’ve not gained all the weight back. But still. I’ve been eating in moderation for a year and not lost weight! I can’t deny this anger is compounded by the fact I saw my friend for lunch today. She’s lost 5 stone in 5 months using Mounjaro.

I just want to weep. I wish I just started on Ozempic or similar. I’m at my goal weight but to be honest I’d love another stone off. I don’t know why I didn’t go
on a glp 1. I just knew in my heart that my weight was not “inexplicable”. I was eating far too much out of boredom.

Just another sunny day wasted hating myself even though I’ve tried 😢

I’ve been going to the gym too. How pathetic to be this mindful and to not have lost any weight.

You have managed to lose and maintain your weight without unnecessary drugs. You are going to the gym. You will be healthy and fit. Drugs might help you lose but won't improve your fitness and who knows what they will do to long-term health. Stop focusing on looks and focus on health and longevity.

montysmaw · 26/05/2026 11:57

@MeridaBrave I have extreme tone in my arms, my husband is a strength coach. But I still have wrinkles on my arms. Because the skin is wrecked.
I have a 6 pack, but after twins and 2 c sections I still have a pouch . No amount of muscle will remove an empty pocket of skin. Its skin, not muscle, you cant "work it".
There is no point in pretending that weights will get rid of everything. Skin is skin and if you have a low body weight, you would have to pack on a lot of muscle to smooth out drastically stretched middle aged skin.

Its all relative to your age , the amount you have lost, how long you were fat for.

Twinkylightsg · 26/05/2026 11:47

I find with carbs (I have pcos) that it is best to 1. Have it for breakfast like oatmeal. 2. Have brown rice or potato or white rice etc but not pasta.

Also making sure it's 1/2 a cup per portion.

It works well.

BurnoutGP · 26/05/2026 11:36

Because "compounders" are nor regulated or approved. So can pose significant risks. You do you but luckily in the UK we have actual regulated health care and medication. I stand by the idiot comment.

RingoJuice · 26/05/2026 11:23

BurnoutGP · 26/05/2026 11:11

I think its the most important medical discovery since insulin and penicillin.
I think people doing their own thing with any medication are idiots.

It’s fine if you can read and do basic math. Although posts on Reddit are evidence that not everyone can, in fact, do math. YMMV

Anyway, seems like a lot of people in the UK have to quit peptides before they are ready and it’s sad. Why is it that they generally cannot get it very easily through compounders? This also opens up the drug
to those wanting to use it for other things than specifically weight loss.

BurnoutGP · 26/05/2026 11:11

RingoJuice · 26/05/2026 10:59

That was unnecessary. Especially considering we have decades of data from Ozempic and it’s unlikely to be much of anything. Can we not accept that these will be a boon for humanity?

Maintaining is a massive deal (especially with pcos) so a huge well done to you. And well done for losing all the weight in the first place, that’s amazing.

Id try a bit of intermittent fasting if you can. And focus on continuing to maintain then working on enjoying your body how it is now. Maybe in a year you’d be happier to reduce carbs again? Or can you reduce carbs a tiny bit from where you are now?

reducing carbs is the only thing that works for me. Otherwise I just maintain. It’s a tie but at least it doesn’t require extensive calorie counting!

Theres lots of stuff in your message that is confusing. I think you should rethink your reasons and understand the side effects of weight loss jabs. Cutting out carbs would be necessary to maintain weight loss even if you were to lose weight through injections. Have you thought about maintenance being a long term requirement?

Cutting out carbs absolutely isn’t necessary for weight loss or maintenance. Plenty of people maintain weight loss while still eating carbs. Sustainability and overall calorie balance matter far more than removing a food group.

I dont know your age but sadly you will always have wobbly bits. I have lost a ton, unashamedly with WLI and have maintained on MJ for 18 months on a low dose. So long as I have breath in my body I will be on them as they help so many other conditions I have.

I am very slim. My BMI is now 18.
I have wobbly bits. I am not young enough and was over weight too long for it all to spring back. I have had to make peace with a bit of saggy and a Csection pouch.

But I look a million dollars in clothes and thats they way most people see me. I choose carefully like, slightly longer sleeved tshirts. My arms are toned, but i have a bit of wrinkly skin and tone doesnt do away with stretched skin.

Shapewear is your friend,I dont feel constricted in it or even notice it now. My wobblees arent bad actually enough to need shapewear every day but it gives me a quite confidence boost so I mainly do wear it. Wobbly bits are normal.
I bet you look just fine and are now body shaming yourself the way we have been programmed to.

I’m not sure I agree. I’m 51, with a BMI of 23. I lift heavy weights every day. I honestly do not have any “wobbly bits”. I have a washboard stomach (3 kids but no CS) with a 6 pack definition. I have visible forearm veins, and can see capped delts / triceps / biceps. I lost 14kg on mounjaro and got to bodyfat under 20%.

But most do not have the commitment to the gym that I have. I’m deadlifting 2x BW, squatting 1.5x BW, benching and BOR at BW and OHP 2/3 BW.

Sartre · 26/05/2026 10:02

Haven’t RTFT but if you’re now a healthy BMI I don’t get why you’re sad and want to lose even more. Sounds more like body confidence issues than anything else, you don’t need to lose more weight so WLI would frankly be batshit!

Neade · 24/05/2026 15:36

I’m pissed i still can’t enjoy a sunny day without feeling self conscious even though I’ve lost weight in a sensible fashion which isn’t getting me anywhere now. I’m so exhausted with my body

Edited

You cannot have the injections and expect to keep the weight off as successfully as someone who has spent months training their brains and changing their entire lifestyle.
OMG how do you think they work. Magically melting fat and muscle. They literally allow people to change their lifestyles and train their brains.

If you have PCOS you should try to at least microdose tizerpatide(?) because I’ve managed mine with it. US has fewer restrictions on compounders so I was always able to get it prescribed for off-label use and then take it with me.

After awhile I just compounded it myself, but it seems nobody else does that outside the US? I guess we are just a pharmacologically minded people 😛

Or idiots

I have dabbled with strength training. It’s highly recommended for women with pcos. I use weights and the machines and just follow what I see on tik tok. Ie i follow a routine for arms for beginners using 2kg weights. But not dead lifting or anything like that. I am trying to build myself to that point. I was very very unfit prior to weight loss.

I appreciate the advice though and it’s definitely something I need to actually commit to. Thank you x

Firstly, if you go to the gym see if they have Les Mills classes. There is a LM class called BodyPump that’s excellent for strength training. And far more fun than just trying to lift weights on your own. You can get some of the BodyPump classes online also. I actually pay £12.99 for a Les Mills subscription and do their classes at home. Bought my own weights. Cheaper than the gym and I can fit it around work/life more easily (did this after we couldn’t go to the gym during Covid).

Were/are you calorie counting at all? MyFitnessPal is a great free app to use to check how many calories you’re actually eating. Sometimes what we think is low calorie, actually isn’t and we’re eating more than or the same as we are burning.

I lost a stone in 6 weeks just using the MyFitnessPal app. Just cutting down alcohol and monitoring the calories I was eating. It meant I could eat any foods I liked, I just had to ensure I wasn’t eating more than I was burning. I have another 2.5 stone to go, but that’s been working well for me so far. And when I add exercise to the mix, the calorie deficit increases and I lose a bit more.

And bloody well done on losing what you have by sheer grit and determination!! You’ve done amazing and should be proud of yourself! 💐

More nonsense. GLP1 have been around and studied for 2 decades. We know an awful lot about them
Well clearly those of us with an education other than tiktok do.

Even more powerful peptides than tizerpatide will come to the market in a few years what will people say then? But these are extremely effective and the only way we can beat obesity in an environment of abundance.

Only bad thing is I seem to have lost my taste for alcohol. so yeah, that’s my worst side effect

Ozempic hasn’t been around long enough for many (far easier to record studies) you can’t compare the 2 for relapses. I am someone who lost weight, no one has recorded my efforts.

It’s actually 80 percent, many many studies done. You can google. But about 80 percent of people who lose weight regain it all if not more within 5 years. Obesity is a relapse disease.

OnlyHasEyesForLoki · 26/05/2026 09:00

It sounds like you’re doing a good range of exercise and building that up. I think over time if you keep it up you’ll find you weigh the same but are smaller and will feel less flabby. I definitely wouldn’t put 2 stone on just to qualify for the GLP1s. Could you avoid simple carbs during the week and have them at the weekend to feel less deprived. I’m a big potato fan so really understand how hard it is not to have them!

Peony1985 · 26/05/2026 08:54

Just think of the money Op. It’s £30 -£50 per lb, MN worked out. And then the £120+ per month maintaining.

I totally get why its frustrating as it feels like a battle, whist the jab people glide through.
But you’ve trained your body and if you can keep it up, you do lose the food noise naturally.

You’re young. Save the jabs for when you’re menopausal and fat starts appearing everywhere.

Wickedlittledancer · 26/05/2026 08:50

Sometimeswinning · 26/05/2026 08:44

Wickedlittledancer · 26/05/2026 08:50

Shocked at the misinformation on here and the fundamental lack of knowledge about obesity, the impacts, the risks, the drugs, much of it is basic knowledge too,

for example. Gallstones are a risk of weight loss or gain. That’s why they asked the poster if she’d been on them, as if she’d been losing weight the risk heightened. Of course more people are getting tnem, as more lose weight. This doesn’t mean people should stay obese. Dieting without the drugs doesn’t change the risk,

or the poster claiming you’d lose more muscle mass using the drugs, which is completely illogical, you diet on the drugs, you chose whay you eat on or off them, losing muscle is about not eating enough protein and not strength training when dieting, the drugs don’t target your muscle.

are people just not interested enough to actually educate themselves, but feel so resentful over not being able to access them they just post erroneous stuff.
