To feel weird about being second woman on sex chair

TheBloomingDahlia · 24/05/2026 09:31

I don’t think I am BU but interested in whether other people would just get over it.

Been with my boyfriend for two years, we don’t live together yet and he has just got some furniture out of storage after moving house. One item that he has recently mentioned is a curvy foam chair/sofa thing made for sex. I will add a photo of similar. Although he originally bought it new I think it’s fairly likely he has had sex with his ex on it.

I am not usually jealous at all but I feel really weird about this - I guess because it’s specially made for sex? And because it’s foam I feel like if it wasn’t covered it has probably absorbed some juices 🙈. Although surely any bacteria will be dead after two years. I just don’t want to be lying on this thing knowing his ex was in the same positions, thinking maybe she was face down in the same spot and we would be basically cheek to cheek!

These feelings are all new to me as I don’t usually think about exes and I’ve never been confronted with sex furniture/toys/accessories that weren’t my own or bought new. AIBU to feel weird about this? Would you just put a waterproof sheet down and try to get over it, or refuse to use it because you don’t want to feel uncomfortable during sex?

Am I the only one who's never heard of a sex chair before? Its not very multi functional is it, do you have a suite of them for different positions?

BestZebbie · 24/05/2026 10:34

I think the weirdness might be because it is specifically for sex, so it gives a feeling if you just having been swapped out with his ex like a removable part for an appliance - whereas everyone has a bed and a sofa and they aren’t sex-specific.

alimak9 · 24/05/2026 10:34

I’m shocked by some of the comments OP. I completely understand that you don’t want to reuse an item that was solely used for sex with an ex partner. Is not the same as bed, or a sofa. Different purpose and memories, plus the bed at least you change the bed sheets. I would tell him that I don’t feel comfortable with that and you won’t be using, he can get rid of it. If he and you want, you can get a new one - together. Is completely reasonable and he should understand.

I've been thinking far too much about the waterproof sheet/waterproof cover problem:

Wouldn't a sheet just...slide off? They're sort of like rain jacket material, aren't they? Or can you get fitted ones specifically for sex chairs?

Wouldn't you (or the person on the sex chair) just...slide off? Or would it have special clammy properties that would sort of keep you glued in place? But then there'd be a different kind of squelch as you remove yourself I suppose.

I bet that even if there was a special fitted sheet it would pop off one corner mid-gyration anyway.

Sunday mornings used to be about church when I was growing up. How times change.

You can get big waterproof throws that are fleece on one side and velvet on the other side so they’re not plasticky or slippy and you can shove in the washing machine. They are technically/originally for dogs. I regretted mentioning a waterproof sheet when I saw someone link to a tarpaulin upthread!

It was obviously a joke based on what the PP said - the liquids are one of the main reasons I don’t think I want to use the chair. I know there are weirdos who post on here but I dont want to discuss how it would be used or anything like that.
I just want to know if others would feel the same or if they wouldn’t care because my boyfriend wants to bring it to my house

Quite frankly any man who bought a sex chair in the first place would not be coming any where near me. And secondly again. I assume it’s for the very elderly. If that’s the case, then say, as I’m not very elderly and I can see if you struggle physically it maybe a needs must thing.

Mimosaandonwards · 24/05/2026 10:30

It reminds me of one of one of those vinyl covered shapes you find in toddler soft play areas.

True.

You could have a glass of wine and some nibbles within easy reach too.

It’s starting to sound really appealing now. Apart from the sex bit.

I’m looking at this chair, thinking, ‘wow, how practical…that would really save my knees..,’

I was thinking that position would kill my back 🤣

No I would not want to use a 2nd hand "sex...." anything. Bed sheets etc can be washed.

Guessing OP's ex hasn't cleaned his one.

@TheBloomingDahlia If it feels weird, that matters even if you cannot articulate precisely why.

The reviews on Amazon are excellent value, although it’s sadly out of stock.

OP, it had slip covers!!! Whip them off and Mrs Hinch them.

The world hasn’t half changed in my time.

Ha! Yeh! I just assumed it was an old chair he used to have sex with his gf on. I’ll get back under my rock

Wow, Big Sex Chair are getting really creative with their marketing tactics!

I know I am old but I had never heard of a sex chair until the last few days !

This is an advert, right?

I’m worried about my future Insta ads - DON’T LISTEN, ALGORITHMS

Sartre · 24/05/2026 10:24

My mate dated a guy in a wheelchair once, they had a hoist thing like a sex swing but for disabled people. I guess it isn’t so dissimilar to this? He will have moved on since, I don’t know how easy it is or isn’t to thoroughly clean…

I don’t think “sex juices” last years though. I’m also a bit unsure how or why this chair is necessary, seems easy enough to do those positions on a bed. I’ll leave.

Vitrolinsanity · 24/05/2026 10:20

Thank you @HelpMeGetThroughthat made me laugh out loud as I imagined OP’s DP toting it up the path. I do think throwing a sheet over it then would be sensible.

I think any man pulling out a waterproof sheet, Peaky Blinders torture style, would freak me out far more than the chair (which itself would be instant ick).

Cleocaterpillar · 24/05/2026 10:19

I was expecting a swinging sex chair

*disappointed 😞

MolkosTeenageAngst · 24/05/2026 10:19

Think it’s reasonable not to want to use it, I wouldn’t want to have sex on the same furniture as an ex any more than I’d want to holiday in the same destinations or have him buy me identical jewellery etc. I’d feel like that furniture will hold memories of sex with her for him and wouldn’t want to have sex when he’s potentially going to be thinking of her.

I think it’s different to a bed because a bed isn’t used solely for sex, most people will have other memories associated to their bed linked to dreams, chats they’ve had in bed, times they’ve watched TV or read something interesting in bed etc. This furniture has literally just been used for sex. Also if it’s been in storage for the last 2 years you've been together your sex life has clearly been fine without it, I don’t see the need to use it if it’s potentially going to make you uncomfortable. Totally fine to say no to having it in the house or having sex on it and if it’s a dealbreaker for him and can’t see your point of view then that’s a red flag and lucky you’ve found out so you can leave him before he’s moved in!

I’m sure there are loads of juices in mattresses

I hope that there is a mattress protector, ideally waterproof, and regularly washed.

Yes and stop drinking orange/apple/grapefruit juice in bed all together if you’re that clumsy

Frankly a man talking about/buying a ''sex chair'' would be an instant turn off for me in the first place.

Same

Seriously, who wakes up on a Sunday morning and thinks 'What shall I do today? I know, I'll seek out a parenting website and discuss sex juices 🙄

Wrongun lol.

Doseofreality · 24/05/2026 10:15

Have you asked on the Mrs Hinch groups on Facebook for tips on how to give it a thoroughly good deep clean?
Am sure several bottles of white vinegar, some bicarbonate of soda and a dousing of Zoflora will have it as good as new.

True.

You could have a glass of wine and some nibbles within easy reach too.

And, if he takes so long doing it doggy style that it needs an orthopaedic support chair then you’d need something to while away the time.
