Shame he never thought about this himself 🙄

He probably didn't consider it a better option - the value of girl children in places like Afghanistan/Pakistan is almost zero:

"Humanitarian organizations in Pakistan, such as the Edhi and Chhipa foundations, have long reported a high incidence of abandoned or dead newborn babies found in rubbish dumps. Tragically, local reporting indicates that the vast majority (frequently over 95%) of these recovered infants are baby girls"

He could have borrowed the money from his family member rather than selling his daughter to a familial tape gang.

Shame he never thought about this himself 🙄

You need to watch it - then ask yourself what that man could do

I think then you’ll be ashamed of your response

For anyone who has been living under a rock, the Taliban were defeated by NATO forces in 2001!!!! NATO forces then occupied Afghanistan and spent 20 YEARS teaching them to be a civilised country and training/equipping their army to fight extremism. Once the troops left it took LESS THAN A WEEK for the Taliban to regain power because the men RAN LIKE COWARDS!!

Sorry to be Trump-esque in my delivery but 457 British troops died delivering the above so the fact it isn’t even noted among some of you is a disgrace!

Yep, Trump-esque in your delivery right enough.

Because you skip a key part of the story that reflects poorly on Trump – just as he habitually does.

Trump stopped withdrawal talks with Afghan government and went behind their backs to make a deal directly with the Taliban, in which the Taliban got most of what they wanted.

The Afghan government were not even at the table.

“This was a terrible deal. It was deeply injurious to US interests, let alone ruinous to Afghan interests,” the former Pentagon official told me.
https://theconversation.com/how-trump-the-master-deal-maker-failed-when-it-came-to-negotiating-with-the-taliban-in-afghanistan-250835

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States%E2%80%93Taliban_deal#

The Taliban were not defeated. When Trump signed the deal with them in 2020 they already controlled more of Afghanistan than at any time since 2001.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-49559493

Tom Tugendhat MP served in Afghanistan, and his speech to the Commons in 2021 after the debacle of the actual withdrawal, said to "call into question the courage of men I fought with — to claim that they ran [...] is shameful."

(Biden isn't mentioned by name in his speech but I think that's who Tugendhat is criticising for saying the Afghan military ran.)
https://spectator.com/article/full-speech-tom-tugendhat-on-afghanistan/?edition=us

He also said:
"I think it's essential that we recognize that the Afghan army did fight, and it fought extremely hard," he told Fox News. "It was betrayed by its leadership, and very sadly it was abandoned by its allies."
https://www.foxnews.com/world/british-parliament-joe-biden-afghan-refugees

Tugendhat also spoke of the need to support Afghan refugees.

There's a bizarre amnesia about all these events being very shoutily pushed on this thread – despite many of us remembering them all too vividly. The shoutiness of some posts seems in inverse proportion to their accuracy.Hmm

I don't know what some posters are up to when they do this. There is not the slightest need to rewrite history in order to absolutely condemn the behaviour of the Taliban specifically and appalling misogyny in Afghanistan generally.

How Trump the ‘master deal-maker’ failed when it came to negotiating with the Taliban in Afghanistan

The deal that Trump left for his successor Joe Biden was a recipe for the disaster that followed.

Chat GPT helped you out in the last 20 minutes has it?

It wasn’t overnight, they had 20 years to adapt. They chose not to. Why are you so desperate to excuse the men here?

I don’t use it

but you can look to previous posts I have posted before about the army not being prepared and the influence of religious leaders and hardly unknown about other countries financing them and who they are and people don’t just adapt especially when they have lived under such fear and being so controlled it’s a generational shift

what I have said is warped violent society breeds violence and living in fear and just about surviving is something which we simply can’t relate to creates a situation that decisions are made by desperate people in this case men that are abhorrent but I don’t believe all these men are cruel and evil they are a product of the terrible conditions they are in

No it didn’t escape me

life improved greatly especially for girls and women but things don’t change overnight the corruption, the funding of the Taliban from other countries and how prepared they were, underestimated how powerful and the influence of religious leaders and left an unprepared army

and I’m not sure what it was all for, good intentions from the west, lost lives and more suffering

Amazing that some people will still come on here with their cultural relativism drawing a parallel between the status of British women in the 19th century and the fate of Afghan women now. There is something really pernicious about the Afghan ( and not solely Afghan) brand of Islam but white liberals are too scared to say so.

ainsleysanob · 19/05/2026 22:43

If I was unable to earn because of the circumstances of where I lived, unable to feed my wife and children, having to sell your daughters in a country where women, for one example, are killed for being raped, then I’ll tell you what I wouldn’t be doing - summoning the energy they say they haven’t got, to have sex with the wife they claim to love and create more children they can’t sustain the life of.

Because violent warped societies breeds more violence no one is defending men being violent or rapists

until the people are freed from taliban and all other extreme religious groups changes can happen but that won’t happen over night as people will need to rebuild their lives be educated and to feel safe it will take generations not a few years

that’s what you think you will do but when it’s about survival and not about choices about what is the better life survival tends to take over

and again you would not be thinking that way lf all you have known is violence and fear your mindset would be very different

I'm not sure what your point is? Yes, if I was raised in a culture steeped in misogyny and violence, I too might view it as normal. But I wasn't. And so I have the ability to judge that behaviour as abhorrent and immoral.

I'm disinterested in cultural relativism.

As I said, I don't know what the solution is. I fear there isn't one, and the suffering will continue as long as there are women and girls in the country to abuse.

HRTQueen · 19/05/2026 22:18

OtterlyAstounding · 19/05/2026 21:36

Explain the 90% domestic violence stat then, if they're all such good men in an impossible situation.

And yes, I understand that their mindset and culture is drenched in misogyny.

Frankly, I would rather send my daughter away in the hopes that she might escape, even with a journey that was a horrific ordeal, than knowing that if she stayed she would certainly suffer a horrific ordeal for the rest of her life, being owned, and raped on a regular basis by her husband, in a country that saw her as less worthy of rights than a camel.

Ugh yes, off-topic, but that argument always annoys me so much. It's like saying, "Well, you already have cervical cancer, so what's wrong with a little pancreatic cancer on top of it?" You should be trying to get rid of the existing misogyny, not introducing even more, and more extreme misogyny.

It’s so enraging when they don’t see this and instead try to turn it into a completely illogical discussion about racism.

Men from more misogynistic countries are even more likely to be misogynists.

Because if not who the fuck are the men oppressing these women and children?

OtterlyAstounding · 19/05/2026 22:14

FernFaery · 19/05/2026 22:11

Agree. But hey we already have sex offenders and misogynists so what’s a few more?

Frankly, the UK has enough problems with misogyny and sexual violence already being pervasive in society, without introducing more men who see women as a lesser form of life, undeserving of rights and protections.

Yep the horrors that have been meted out to women on those boats and posters still want them to be given asylum.

These men are vile psychopaths for fucks sake!

There was that case of the Iraqi man who after watching his wife and child die in a boat, proceeded to immediately rape and strangle to death a teenage girl who was travelling with her mother. No-one helped them, there were other men on that boat and no-one helped them.

My heart hurts, as a mother of a daughter I despair at how little other women value the lives of girls. I get this man may have been in a bind, but the reality if it is not an abnormal practice there, it is not unusual or roundly condemned because the value of females is so low that no-one even cares that a child survives her wedding night.

I read recently read that where a girl has been subject to FGM and has been sewn up a husband will sometimes cut her open himself with either a knife or his penis. I fucking despair and the brutality visited on women and children.

Have to step away from this, it’s just so awful.

Here is actual footage of a "wedding ceremony" between an elderly man and a shrouded six-year-old girl. After the ceremony, he carries the struggling girl out of the house.

It is beyond abhorrent. I'm amazed that any woman could spare even a shred of sympathy for the men of Afghanistan, given what we know of the situation there. They are nearly all entirely complicit in the suffering of women and children.

FernFaery · 19/05/2026 22:04

Bringemout · 19/05/2026 21:59

Men like children, other men are prepared to sell children. No-one should ever criticise a brown man for liking or selling children. Thats it basically.

As a brown woman I don’t give a shit about the culture. Most brown women I know would also agree that it is wrong. Unequivocally wrong, it was wrong a hundred years ago and it’s wrong today.

Agree. Would the outrage from that poster exist if these children were white? Why are brown people not capable of understanding paedophilia is wrong in their view? Of course they know it’s fucking wrong, they just don’t care

Is this confined to extreme islamists or other faiths?

Not sure what you mean by other faiths.

Christianity is a different faith and obviously doesn’t consider the Koran a holy book.

if you are talking about different varieties of Islam of which there are many then the Koran is very very clear on this yes. So the acceptance of slavery is widespread in most Muslim societies.

since England got evangelical about stopping slavery (from about the 1830s) the English followed slowly by other European nations have put significant pressure on other countries (including America) to stop slavery.

For example in turkey which has traditionally been a slave market for hundreds to years the Ottoman Empire introduced various reforms and bans from 1830 under British pressure but slavery was finally outlawed only when the empire fell and modern turkey was established as a state by Ataturk,

Your comparison is totally set against the backdrop of how we live and our values and your language exposes that - you aren’t considering the cultural differences - just criticising without beginning to think about that countries culture and how they live and why that may be - from both sides - it’s complex and you are excluding the experiences of the people who are making those tough decisions

It been well documented that the females who have made it to the crossing are raped and or murdered. I vaguely remember in Greece, the females were tossed overboard left to die.

There was that case of the Iraqi man who after watching his wife and child die in a boat, proceeded to immediately rape and strangle to death a teenage girl who was travelling with her mother. No-one helped them, there were other men on that boat and no-one helped them.
