AIBU to ask people not to poop in new under stairs cloakroom?

keepswimming38 · 17/05/2026 20:46

We are just having a new cloakroom installed downstairs. AIBU to put a sign up saying ‘no poo loo’ or ‘if you plan to do a poo do it in the upstairs loo’?

My DH thinks it’s not reasonable. I just down like the idea of people doing a poop in there and then the macerator having to … anyway AIBU?

No don't do this how embarrassing.
What about guests that can't climb stairs, they will be mortified having to explain that to you.
I would not repeat a visit to anyone's house that stipulated no pooing in certain toilets, and why even have guests if you can't deal with them carrying out their natural bodily functions? Very inhospitable and totally nuts.

Hankunamatata · 17/05/2026 22:19

You need 1 ply or fast dissolving toilet paper for for masserator/saniflow

MyCrushWithEyeliner · 17/05/2026 22:18

Unreasonable for using the word ‘chillax’

It’s not ‘like having a kitchen you can’t cook in’ is it ? Who has two kitchens ?

Gordon Ramsey apparently!

MyGammyEye · 17/05/2026 22:16

Invite me to stay. I have some sort of mental block where I can only poo in my own home.

Holidays - are you having a nice time? No I'm painfully constipated!

Hotsaucenoketchup · 17/05/2026 22:14

Following in from other posts - how about a little rhyme on the sign on the wall ??

please do not use this loo
if you need to do a poo.
careful if you do a wee :
toilet sheets - no more than three.
solids are just unacceptable
in this porcelain receptacle.

Or you could just leave it and let people just do what they need to do!

Now im concerned about toilet paper quantity! Mm 🤔

I buy 2 ply for caravan chemical loos!

KilkennyCats · 17/05/2026 22:02

It really is. It’s a toilet that op doesn’t want people to use as a toilet.

It’s not ‘like having a kitchen you can’t cook in’ is it ? Who has two kitchens ?

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/05/2026 22:11

"poop" "cloakroom"

Its poo/shit/faeces and bog, shitter or loo.

HTH

HayfeverComethAndThatRightSoon · 17/05/2026 22:09

YABU to use the infantile term "poop". What are you, an American 7 year old?

SqueakyFromme · 17/05/2026 22:09

@Ilovelurchers your post is really sensible

Chillax. It’s lighthearted as you said.

Is it? You’re not coming out well here.

ImFinePMSL · 17/05/2026 22:09

We are just having a new cloakroom installed downstairs

I’m extremely confused as to why someone would do a shit in a cloakroom?

Or do you actually mean you have a downstairs toilet and are having some rails installed to hang your coats? Because if that’s the case, then just get rid of the toilet.

You can’t just call you downstairs toilet a “cloakroom” because you want to hang your coats in there that’s nuts 🤣

AgnesMcDoo · 17/05/2026 22:08

Gawd you can’t do that. Folk will think you are nuts.

Booboobagins · 17/05/2026 22:07

The macerator doesn't normally need to do much to clear poo it's toilet paper it has to deal with.... Maybe have a bidet added to reduce the macerator noise....

QOD · 17/05/2026 22:07

We have a macerator under the stairs and indeed have 2 signs. One says ‘please don’t poo in the downstairs loo’ and the other says “please don’t flush tissues, wipes, sanitary wear or your hopes & dreams’

macerators ain’t the most reliable and we are on our second.
if someone does poo it really doesn’t matter, but we encourage people to use one of the other 3 loos!

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 17/05/2026 22:04

If it can’t cope, then tell all guests it’s out of order or not flushing properly so that all guest business is don’t upstairs

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/05/2026 22:03

Well for a start YABU to use the word "Poop" grow the fuck up.

As for anyone needing a shit, well I have a bowel condition, as does my mother and sister, and we need to shit we need to shit NOW. So either we shit in your downstairs loo or we shit ourselves.

So with that choice, I would shit in the loo.

Why have a downstairs loo installed at all if you dont want people to use it for what it was designed for?

As for making your disabled DD use the upstairs loo despite your assertion that you had it installed for her, yes it does sound bad because it IS bad. Is your £20k new bog worth more than your daughter? Good to know.

Mumandcarer80 · 17/05/2026 22:03

You can’t always plan when you’re going to drop a log ffs. I sometimes go to the toilet thinking I only need a number 1. But number 2 slips out as well. 😂😂😂If it bothers you that much get some VIPoo it works.

KilkennyCats · 17/05/2026 22:02

SqueakyFromme · 17/05/2026 21:52

No it’s really not as there is a second toilet.

It really is. It’s a toilet that op doesn’t want people to use as a toilet.

roibustea · 17/05/2026 22:00

Just don't tell people about the downstairs loo at all and tell them to go upstairs. Though I too am taken aback at the number of people who apparently just poo wherever, whenever. I go in the morning. It takes about an hour after getting up, then having a shower, having breakfast and having a coffee. I don't go out until after my poo. So it's very annoying if I have a stupidly early appointment as I have to factor in enough time between getting up and pooing to know what time I can safely leave. But I think I thought everybody had a schedule of some sort, unless maybe they had a medical condition. Learn something every day!

Ilovelurchers · 17/05/2026 21:58

Don't put up the sign. That would mean that people would have to go in there, see it, and relocate to the other bathroom if they needed a shit. That's unnecessarily embarrassing.

Family and good friends, tell them about it.

Most other visitors are likely to go upstairs anyway on the (rare) occasions they need to shit in your house.

Accept the risk that very occasionally, your macerator will have to cope.

In short, it's fine to have this as a general rule. But a sign will be embarrassing and awkward and unfair.

Hope that makes sense?

AllBranGirl · 17/05/2026 21:56

A downstairs toilet you can only pee in? I know your sort!

Henbags · 17/05/2026 21:55

I do really hope this is a joke thread. It’s a toilet.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 17/05/2026 21:54

Squirrelchops1 · 17/05/2026 21:02

Who the heck visits people and goes for a dump?
In my entire life I've never visited friends or family and had to snap one off.

People whose bowel habits are not the same as yours? I often visit people overnight or got a weekend, I can't hold my shit in until I get home.
