So my neighbours teenage son has been smoking doobies in the garden with his parents consent. His father is a policeman and actually a firearms officer. I'm concerned that he may be using Ur at least getting high from the passive smoking. I want to report him to his superiors but DH is adamantly against it and says I'm being dramatic. Really between a rock and a hard place. AIBU if I report him?

You wait 2 days to use the lawnmower after a glass of wine?

I wouldn't be annoying the cop next door, it's generally a bad idea.

This. I’ve certainly mowed the lawn hungover. I might even risk boiling the kettle tomorrow morning. Living life on the edge, me!

my condolences, ill admit this is mumsnet, not everyone is sweet talking, and you yourself did come across as rude too when i tried to help

Fatiguedwithlife · 17/05/2026 02:46

Maybe posting late Saturday night was a mistake. Getting passive aggressive replies and nonsense. The poll shows there is at least a decent portion of readers with a moral compass. Fine he might not get high from passive smoke but he may be smoking it himself indoors. See my dilemma?

but he may be smoking it himself indoors.
That's hearsay, hun.

At 20 to midnight she wrote this on the replacement chips thread

Guess il go back to the pub I just left and ask for a refund fir the 2 shots if sambuca I just threw up in the car park.

So god knows what’s going on.

Plus she cracked some joke about someone else’s spelling two posts later, then did a howler of a spelling mistake on here.

And she’s been rude, but accuses you lot of being rude.

12% agree and the sensible ones will be in bed now and the drunks and insomniacs skewing the results voting with a foggy head. By lunch tommorow igl be alot closer.

I see your rude creature and raise you your sweeping assumption of drunks and insomniacs.

Which are you?

A drunk or an insomniac?

NameChangeMay2026 · 17/05/2026 02:36

Sorry, what's "using Ur" and what's a doobie? Could you write in English?

You are not between a rock and hard place. You are between a comfortable, tolerant, easy-going life and a neurotic, judgemental busy-body.

Ok I'm out. That I find offensive and hurtful. Thanks for making me feel an inch tall. Good night

I like a glass of wine and the occasional g and t on celebratory nights. I'm not denying my use of alcohol buts it's all.above board and I always wait 48 hours to drive or use the iron or lawn mower etc.

Just the cocaine keeping you up tonight then?

That’s ridiculous overkill. 47 and 1/2 hours is absolutely fine.

PollyBell · 17/05/2026 02:23

So you don't want advice you want people to tell you what you want to hear?

Yes you are being dramatic but you dont want to hear that

I'm beginning to realise that I'm being dramatic judging by the comments. That's why I posted this. Wish people be a bit nicer about it.

Drinks and insomniacs 🤣 - or it just might be people who live in a different time zone but that wouldn’t suit your narrative. Plus given that assumption (and you seem to assume a lot about other people) who is to say you are not off your face!

I know but I'd just be raising concerns and if he is clean ten yes got nothing to worry about. If he is a junkie like his DS then IV helped prevent a potential loose cannon roaming the streets with a firearms. Maybe I'm over thinking it but better to be safe than sorry

but you would need proof rather than hearsay

Enjoying someone who uses “hun” frequently on the internet telling someone else they are uneducated… Pot. Kettle. Black.

@HumbleHun I have never used an illegal drug (didn’t even drink underage!) and I know what hotboxing is… Unless you live under a rock, you can be aware of drug related terminology and not use it… YABVU to worry about your neighbor smoking weed on their own time. It is legal in lots of countries and really not a big deal. It’s hardly like he’s dealing crack on the job…

If he’s smoking on the job, they’ll figure it out. YANBU to not enjoy weed smell in the garden. It’s legal where I live and not a fan of the smell!
