To judge people for supporting MJ?

No doubt this will rub some people up the wrong way, but when I see people enjoying the new Michael Jackson movie or generally dismissing the abuse he perpetrated as ‘he was a child himself’, I immediately dislike them and consider them supporters of child abuse. Having read the testimonies of the victims and the multiple witnesses to his inappropriate grooming behaviour, I have no doubt in my mind that he was a child groomer and abuser and people’s support of him disgusts me. Just unfollowed someone on Instagram for posting about their enjoyment of the new movie and what a legend he is. AIBU?

Wasn't there some mention of MB keeping him chained up as a sex slave? Or am I thinking of someone else? (Like Boy George maybe?)

That was Boy George who we see every bloody week on TV.

MB never went back to TV

Flomingho · 17/05/2026 08:49

People still watch the Netflix series The Crown, yet the late Queen Elizabeth paid for abuse allegations to disappear.....

Lurker85 · 17/05/2026 08:47

Documentaries are made by the media and are entertainment to get more viewers and can also be manipulated by people in power to push an agenda. Everyone who spoke on there would have been paid to do so. No hard evidence is required and no background checks needed on “witnesses” If I had enough money and a production company, I could create a documentary saying that Brad Pitt likes to live his life behind closed doors dressed as a cat. I could pay enough people to come on and say they had seen it on numerous occasions. You would believe it as it was in a documentary. Courts however, require proper evidence. Strangely enough, they didn’t find any. You go ahead and judge those who have seen the film. I will judge those who believe everything the media shove down their throat and cant separate entertainment from real life. You know people who watch horror films don’t all condone murder right?

SqueakyFromme · 17/05/2026 08:44

@BreezyMintHiker poor bubbles 😢 I read a lot of the animals from his zoo were rehomed but some badly regulated and were neglected.

BreezyMintHiker · 17/05/2026 08:38

Of course he was a paedo. Even his chimpanzee aged out of his target demographic.

1975wasthebest · 17/05/2026 08:37

Judge who you want, we all do it.

As for Jackson, I lean towards him being innocent because the evidence amounts to, well, fuck all.

I enjoyed the film hugely, going to see it again soon and I’m glad it’s making a lot of money.

OriginalPedant · 17/05/2026 08:30

I don’t think going to see the film is necessarily ‘supporting’ Michael Jackson as most people wouldn’t think that deeply about it. Or if they have given it thought, they might see appreciation of the music as distinct from moral approval.

I certainly believe all the allegations made against him so would not watch the film. But I also don’t like his music, so wouldn’t see it even if he wasn’t a creepy pervert.

Sorry for any ignorance here, I was very young when the incident in his pool happened but I liked MB very much as a child and would pretend to be him in the playground! I understand a man died at a party in his pool and there were rumours drugs were involved/ suspicions he had been pushed in when off his face but MB wasn’t near the incident at the time, was he? I’m sure he was inside the home. Or has he done something else I don’t know about?

MB had a bunch of people at his home, having an impromptu party after a night out. I think there were maybe 10-12 people there. The young man was found floating in the pool and had been sexually assaulted. Everyone at the party said they didn’t see anything and the police could never prove who was inside/outside/in what rooms at any given point.

So there’s no evidence MB knew anything or did anything but that’s the same for everyone present and yet someone clearly did something. So he’s never been able to shake off suspicion.

I dislike people who say the judge you for X, Y or Z like it's meant to have automatic impact on the 'judged' person.

TheDivergentEnigma · 17/05/2026 08:16

SuddenlyBecoming · 17/05/2026 04:35

Well you clearly have a superior understanding of the evidence than the one jury he appeared before and was found not guilty. Aren't you fortunate to be so intelligent you not only know something that is unproven but also are able to tell others how wrong they are.

Why would you trust media released information to form your life? I find you bizarre and lacking critical thinking skills.

This.

He was taken to court TWICE and was NOT convicted. It is ALSO very well documented how the police/investigators tried to persuade children that something sexual had happened within interactions they had with him. Dwspite the fact that the children repeatedly said it wasn't the case.

It's also well documented how some parents of the children he hang with hoped to get somw money out of the accusations.

A documentary can't trounce legal judgement. Just because he was different amd gullible, doesn't mean he was a predator.

Having said that, on this issue there are two camps, and I'm firmly on the side that says he is and was innocent. I loved the film and will continue to love his work.

Odd that every claimant went quiet after getting a 7 figure payout.

He was found not guilty on all charges.

Odd that he paid them if he was so innocent..

AliTheMinx · 17/05/2026 08:00

I am not a supporter of MJ by any means, and feel deeply uncomfortable about his close relationships with children and how bizarre he became in his later life. Although he was never found guilty, I believe that there was undoubtedly truth in the allegations.

However, I have seen the film and I don't feel I should be flamed for doing so. I am a huge Jackson 5 fan and there's no denying that from a musical perspective, MJ was an absolute genius. The film is largely about his rise to superstardom and its fascinating. It doesn't whitewash his life growing up and it stops in 1988, so I don't think it's fair to criticise those who watch the film. It's a biographical film about his musical career taking off and should be seen as so. I do not condone anything that may have happened in his private life.

Incidentally I also feel the same about the supporters of Michael Barrymore. Selective memories, inability to challenge their perception of beloved entertainers. Lack of critical thinking makes them complicit in my eyes. What is it about Michaels?!

As for MJ, I don’t understand his diehard fans either but the film is the most baffling thing. I know he wasn’t charged but he paid the victims off and there’s surely enough of them to actually be believed. It’s like making a glorifying biopic of Epstein imo.

Because that was part of settlement included a strict non disclosure agreement obviously.
Sometimes this place reminds me that people aren't that bright.

You would judge someone for being ill educated on Michael Jackson?! 🤣

desiderata328 · 17/05/2026 07:09

Totally agree. I find it unfathomable that anyone could possibly conclude that he wasn’t a pedophile. It just couldn’t be any more obvious.

Do you realise how many rape and sexual abuse cases actually end up with a conviction? Very tiny number. It means nothing

So we should get rid of courts if someome says someone is guilty they are

So if a man accuses a woman of a crime thst means they are guilty or does it just work for men

PersephoneParlormaid · 17/05/2026 07:03

I turn the radio over if his music comes on, can’t stand him.

Cutchemist · 17/05/2026 07:02

XelaM · 17/05/2026 06:35

This. He was acquitted by a jury. Why do you OP think you know more than the court that heard the evidence?

Cutchemist · 17/05/2026 07:01

Completely with you. If your husband or some bloke down the road admitted that he sleep in a bed with children who weren’t his own children would you say ‘oh that’s fine he’s just unusual’ ? I don’t think so.
