Walking round in joggers, jumper and a shawl! Feeling the cold so much today.

If it’s cold it gets boosted. I’m not sitting with layers on. I grew up in a cold house and it was miserable

Iocanepowder · 17/05/2026 08:05

Mine came on automatically this morning and it is set to a really low temperature. So YANBU

aurpod1980 · 17/05/2026 07:40

Well it got the house cosy pretty quickly and yes I guess I was just having a chat - not looking for literal permission! Although it’s helpful to know even those in the south put their heating on. A nice cosy night, DH was out, no idea what time he got in but I was fast asleep nice and warm :)

1 of the reasons I don't mind coming into work, we have electric portable heaters in the offices.. they go on straight away!

True. But you can do stuff first then reward yourself with a warm sit down. Or do less stuff (my preferred option).

True... But I think the 'less stuff' would prevail here... Which is no good to man nor beast in the general scheme of things!

Judellie · 16/05/2026 22:39

I wish I could; boiler has been condemned then we have been away for a week, no heating or hot water at home.
Definitely stuff you take for granted til you don't have it. Hopefuuly we'll be sorted by Wednesday night.
Holiday was only to Netherlands as well, it was perishing and mostly wet all week!

BasilParsley · 16/05/2026 21:54

But, sadly, all they seem to do is warm you when you are sat there doing nothing. They don't lift the wider room/house heat so it's still perishingly cold when you are going about doing stuff!...

We turned ours off 3 weeks ago, although our house is highly insulated. We only really turn it on in October to April. It’s roasting inside. I never have any idea of outside temp anymore.

Sorry now, but why do people ask such questions? What the fuck, there I swore, and I swore I would try not to in 2026, but

Should I go to A+E
Should I put the heating on
Should I (add your own dilemma)

FFS. (Avoided spelling out the F bomb).
FFS!!

First of all, this is a message board for people to have a chat and that's very clearly what the OP was doing. Like saying, "Ooh it's cold today isn't it?" You can't really be so fucking literal that you think the OP was stood at the boiler panicking waiting for a reply.

Secondly, people who don't swear are weird.

Now is the time to buy heated throws while they’re available at summer prices. You will thank me.

4th evening in a row here in the south east! Been so chilly!

Hankunamatata · 16/05/2026 21:36

We have put ours on. We are trying to eek out our pil but house had gotten so nippy it needed heating through

ohtowinthelottery · 16/05/2026 21:34

I haven't turned mine off yet - even though it runs off oil £££!

puppycuddles · 16/05/2026 21:21

It has been cold for the last few days, I switched the heat back on yesterday.

76evie · 16/05/2026 21:01

I’ve never got this don’t put the heating on based on what month it is, if you’re cold put the heating on. Obvs I’d make sure I was dressed properly and not sat in t shirt and shorts.

I’ve got my heating on tonight as I’m cold. I’ve got a dressing gown on over my pjs and a blanket over my bottom half but still felt cold so on the heating goes.

Meadowfinch · 16/05/2026 21:00

Our log burner has been running every night this week. ❄ I have enough of this winter's wood left to last another three days.

jinglejanglescarecat · 16/05/2026 20:56

Yes - we gave in today. So cold

SecretSweetStash · 16/05/2026 20:52

catipuss · 16/05/2026 20:43

Heating comes on when it gets cold, goes off when it gets warm. I don't turn it off.

This is us too, if it is cold in May, the heating comes on. The indoor temperature decides it, we do all wear hoodies/sweatshirts. Luckily our house retains the heat well following a thorough investigation with a thermal camera a few winters ago.

likelysuspect · 16/05/2026 20:49

We nearly put our woodburner on earlier.

Blimey, you must be living in a balmy area! Mines been on every evening for ages... Only stopped lighting it after lunch about two weeks ago... Just to give the central heating a rest of course...

fantam · 16/05/2026 20:50

Onelifeonly · 16/05/2026 20:46

Haven't turned ours off yet. It's on a thermostat so doesn't come on on warm days. Definitely needed today.

The house will feel cosy soon! Grin
