Would you go on holiday with your adult daughter?

I’m in my 20’s, mum is in her 60’s.

I’ve asked her if she wants to go on a girls trip at the end of the year. 4 nights in a city in Europe (we’ve not chosen yet).

Would you do this? I don’t know if It seems a little odd to do or if it’s totally normal.

Do it. My mum is no longer with me. I wish I’d done more while she was still able to travel. By the time I wanted to do more with my mum she couldn’t as her health wasn’t as robust.
Had a great few days in Paris with her though when I was in my 20s and a couple of day spa trips. But that’s it really. I didn’t make good choices

Anonemousse · 13/05/2026 19:46

My mum wouldnt with me (she might with my sister).
I hope to have the type of relationship with my daughter that we could.

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 13/05/2026 19:39

Aw OP, sorry that your mom doesn’t want to go.

What city were you thinking of, and perhaps folks on here can give you single traveller trips.

Also since your mom doesn’t want to leave grandkids, would girl trip with mother of those grandkids be possible, and have your mother take the grandkids for the duration??

Thissideof40 · 13/05/2026 19:38

If my 21 year old daughter wanted to take me away I’d love it. Lovely mother daughter time.

To be honest I don’t want to go anymore because how tragic is it that I have to go alone because even my own mum doesn’t want to spend time with me? I’ve spent most of the evening crying because it’s just made me feel really crap about myself

This is awful but you don’t have to go alone - join a travel group!! DD has done trips with Tru Travels and Gals Who Travel as she didn’t fancy ‘proper’ solo travelling and had the absolute time of her life. Made amazing friends too!

SapphireSteel28 · 13/05/2026 19:34

I am 56 and go on holiday with my 21 year old DD every year-just the two of us. We laugh from start to finish. We have been to Jordan, Madeira and France over the past three years.

Sorry just read your updates.

How tragic for her that she can’t spend a couple of days away.

She’s missing out but oh well that’s her own problem.

She is lucky that you even offered - look at the replies on here about how many would/do love it.

Go have fun without her.

She’s said she’d rather be with her grandchildren. It is what it is, I guess it’s just a reminder that as you get older you get less important

This is exactly where I’m at. Single, at home, no kids. It feels a bit like people will look down on me for it.

I promise you that no one is looking down on you.

In fact most people would envy your life.
And if you’ve ever come across any negativity it’s likely because people are just jealous.

You are only young once.
Too many people (including myself) move out and have kids young.
Whats the rush.

Enjoy your time with less responsibilities.
If you do choose to move in with someone and have children, there will be plenty of times where you wish you could go back to being child free and living with your parents again 😁

The holiday sounds fantastic and I know many mothers and daughters or sons and dads who go away together.
It’s literally so normal.

rightoguvnor · 13/05/2026 19:26

Gosh, yes, always. I’m 58, daughter is 24. I hope we always manage to get some time together each year.
We’ve done Rome, Florence, Venice, the Ligurian coast, the French Riviera. We both like camping so sneak the odd UK weekend in when we can.

bridgetreilly · 13/05/2026 19:25

I wouldn’t, because travelling with my mother is the most stressful experience known to mankind. But plenty of people do.

AquaShark · 13/05/2026 19:23

Normal and lovely.
I did several trips with just my mum in my 20s.

keepswimming38 · 13/05/2026 19:20

I’ve just been away with my 20 year old dd to Barcelona. It’s peak times.

Keswick1967 · 13/05/2026 19:09

Yes absolutely me and my DD went to Prague last November for 4 days it was great, she’s 24 and I’m 58.

Don’t be embarrassed. If she did nothing to decline gracefully and kindly then the shame is hers. You sound lovely ❤️

So lovely even my own mother doesn’t want to spend time with me 🤷🏻‍♀️ it is what it is

I’m going away with my adult daughter (25) for a week this summer. She is great company and it’s extra special for me as my mum died when I was 20 and so I didn’t really have that adult daughter relationship with her.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 13/05/2026 19:03

I’ve been on several holidays with my mum and friends of ours have done the same.

BoredZelda · 13/05/2026 19:03

You[ve asked your mum on a trip and both agreed to go. Why does matter what’s “normal”?

Pricelessadvice · 13/05/2026 19:01

Me and my mum have done a few little breaks together- we love it!
We are very close 🙂

Mumofyellows · 13/05/2026 18:59

I am going on a a 4 day holiday to Croatia with my 23 year old daughter in August! I’m 44 🙂

Twooclockrock · 13/05/2026 18:57

Yes, and I have done many a time. Sounds lovely.

Goldengirl123 · 13/05/2026 18:57

I think it’s a lovely idea and very normal

BejamBabe · 13/05/2026 18:56

I would be utterly over the moon if my 24yo suggested this - and would gladly pay for her trip too!
(spoiler: she won't; we have a good relationship but she would rather spend her precious annual leave with friends or her boyfriend).

goodThingGonewrong · 13/05/2026 18:54

wanderlustdiaries · 13/05/2026 18:51

No. I just thought she’d maybe say “I’d love to but” but it was just a straight no. I feel stupid and embarrassed

I've been away with my daughter (25) several times. I'm 59 and we are very close. We really enjoyed Budapest and Venice. You should definitely go together.
