How to offer to pay for Disney

coulditbeme2323 · 13/05/2026 09:22

Long story short we went to Disney couple of years ago - kids wanted to go back so will be going for two weeks in October half term.

Sister's kids are desperate to go, but as a family it's out of their budget. We have a great relationship with sister and BIL, but don't want to offend them (well him I know sister would be delighted)

How do we go about offering, I was thinking probably speak with her first?

Maybe suggest it as an early family Christmas present?

Stealth boast?

Why not just say “We are planning to go to Disney next year, would x and y like to come with us? My two would love to have them there for company, It would be our treat.”

You have got into your head you are a kind samaritan dishing out charity and they’d be offended, you are not.

Rude! Unnecessary

Sunshineandrainmakesrainbows · 14/05/2026 18:03

Paying for all or for taking the kids? Regardless I’d think they’d be crazy to turn down the offer!

cacboi · 14/05/2026 17:53

Definitely speak with sister first. Maybe suggest they "babysit" a couple of times so they feel they are contributing.?

KnowledgeableAvocado · 14/05/2026 15:10

Make sure they have ESTAs

Have a wonderful time!!

Laurmolonlabe · 14/05/2026 13:48

Well you obviously have never had problems in immigration- I have and lots of people I know have- I had problems way before Trump, don't ignore the possibility it could be a problem.

Since he has been in second term I have been.

Orlando
New York
Connected in Atlanta on way too Colombia
Connected in Atlanta on way back from Cololmbia
Nashville

No issues at all, neither has anybody I know.

We love disney, but wait until a certain orange person is no longer in power. It's too much of a risk with the ESTA and social media

Risk of what? We went last year. We'll be going next year. Millions of Brits go to the USA every year, not just Florida but all over the country.

Food portions, in the parks. We went last year. Absolutely shocking rip off.

I think they are pretty generous.

Why don't you offer for them
to join for one week? I guess depends which Disneyland you are planning to go (US or Paris?) If they are stretched financially and hard to keep up with expensive meals daily, it would be more than enough for everyone to enjoy for one week together! And then you can stay longer!

Selkie33 · 13/05/2026 23:37

@coulditbeme2323 Have you tried the Kitchen Sink at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop? (in Disney's Beach Club resort) 😎

MyCottageGarden · 13/05/2026 23:31

Not to take anything away from OP’s thread, but is anyone else coming away from this, feeling like a crappy parent because you’ll never, ever be able to take your own kid/s to any Disney park, never mind Florida? 🫩 I mean, going to Florida is my own idea of hell but, still. I’d take my DD tomorrow if I could. Those of you who can, enjoy every second!!!

If I'm understanding you correctly (do you want all of them, or just the kids?), I'd try something like:

Sis, we're hoping to make another trip to Disney in October, and I'd appreciate it so much if maybe we could take your kids along, too. Of course, it's always great when the cousins can be together, and I think it would multiply the pleasure of being together on this outing.

In other words, try to frame is as if she is doing you a favor by accepting.

TheBlueKoala · 13/05/2026 22:26

I have the opposite problem. How do I turn an invitation down 😅. It's a lovely gesture but I would rather eat poo than go to Disney Land. Guess that makes me selfish but mine are teens so don't really care. It's just hard to turn down such a generous offer graciously. First world problems and all that I know.

CheeseWisely · 13/05/2026 21:04

What an absolutely lovely thing to do OP. I’m so glad to read there was no pushback. I hope you all have a fantastic time! If only my very generous Brother was a Disney fan (he couldn’t be further from it, when we take DS to Disneyland Paris we plan to invite SIL as she’d adore it, but wild horses wouldn’t drag him there!).
