Posting here for traffic. If you’re 5’8” and around 10st 8lbs what size are you? And what’s your BMI? My bmi is 22 and I’m between a 10 and a 12 but I think I must have a large frame or something cos I thought I’d be an 8-10 at this weight/this bmi

I’m 5ft 6 , but exact same weight as you and I’m mostly a 12 , can get in a 10 with certain things

MyLimeGuide · 12/05/2026 13:01

I'd say 10/12

Laurmolonlabe · 12/05/2026 13:00

Depends on the size of your frame- there are no hard and fast rules.

ClairDeLaLune · 12/05/2026 12:54

I’m 5’ 10” and used to weigh 10.5 stone many years ago! At that point I was a size 12, never less than that. Sizes are probably different now though.

FinallyMovingHouse · 12/05/2026 12:47

You're tall, and no matter how you slice it, if your BMI is the same when taller, there is more of you, hence the sizes go up. I would be surprised if you were less than a 10 at those figures. I'm over 5'10", a bit lighter than you but have size 10 hips, size 10/12 waist, and 12/14 shoulders. All sleeves are too short and I only buy mens' coats. Taller people need bigger clothes.

AbundantFlowers · 12/05/2026 12:47

You’re a healthy bmi. That’s great. Wear clothes you like, that fit you.
Why does it matter about the label?

Matcheroo · 12/05/2026 12:26

I’m 5’8”, average build and would have to be quite underweight to fit a size 8!

I think the size 0 is American sizing.

Same here.

DominoLover51 · 12/05/2026 12:44

I’m 5ft4 or 5 and around 9st4/5, think that makes my BMI 22ish. Like you I’m a size 10/12, bigger at the bottom than at the top

It's so odd isn't it? I'm 5'4 and 12 stone and I'm in a size 12 in most things (jeans I'm often a 14, some tops I need a 10 depending on the shop) - the PP who's 3 inches taller than me but only 5lb heavier being a 14 baffles me. It must be how we're built. Shows the size of your clothes means very little though.

Yeah I am 5 foot 4 and at 12 stone I would definitely be a good size 14.

I have very little muscle though (disabled)

WhatsYourFlex · 12/05/2026 12:42

5”8
10 stone 10

Size 10, can fit in some size 8s

I lift weights and exercise daily so I’m a toned 10 stone 10

NewLeafAgain · 12/05/2026 12:40

10st 8, 5'6. 10-12 sometimes 14 on bottom, 14-16 on top.
Before I had my first kid I was same weight and obv height but a size 8-10 on bottom and 14 on top. A lot more muscle then!

TheDevilFindsWorkForIdleMums · 12/05/2026 12:20

I'm bang on 11stone, 5ft 10 and a size 14 !

Body shapes are weird.

I think it’s more to do with your actual measurements than weight. Everyone at same height/weight will carry it differently.

I’m 5”7 and weigh 10 and a half stone exactly, BMI 23. I’m an inverted triangle shape with boyish hips but broad shoulders and 34E boobs. So my hips are an 8, my waist a 10-12 and bust 12-14.
Right now I’m wearing size XS knickers, a size 10 pair of jeans and a medium top.

purplespink · 12/05/2026 12:32

Hi OP,

A few months ago, I was the same weight. I’m the same height as you. I was a 12. I’m 10 stone exactly now and wear a size 10.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 12/05/2026 12:32

I’m 5 foot 8 and 8.5 stone. Normally an 8 but sizing varies so much - sometimes 6 or 10, depending on the shop and the fit. I bet you’re a 10 in Next.

eggsandsourdough · 12/05/2026 12:32

Im 5ft 9 and at 156lbs (11stone2lbs) i was a small size 10, dresses a size 8 and size 8 on top.

Edited to add BMI 23.1

Elsvieta · 12/05/2026 12:30

Varies. Muscle weighs more than fat and some people have more of it.

I’m surprised you’re a 14. I’m 5”7, 12.5 stone and a size 14.
At the lower end of 11 stone I’m a size 10!

I have what used to be called "childbearing hips". I have a 12 inch difference between my waist and hips and am pear shaped. I am not overweight and have small boobs so everyone thinks I am skinny, but I find size 12 trousers too tight for comfort.

I think the 8s and 10s on here must have boyish narrow hips.

So am I

CointreauVersial · 12/05/2026 12:20

I'm a 12. It's a good weight/size for me, suits my frame.

I have been a 10 in the past, but only when I was a good stone lighter, and pre-menopause, so I'm not sure I'd ever get back to that (or want to).

I'm 5' 8" and 11 5 and a size 14
Bmi 23 I think

Stoicandhappy · 12/05/2026 12:10

My BMI is 20 and I am a size 8/10 so I think yours sounds about right.

Edited to add, I think you tend to weigh more for your size if you’re muscular. I am definitely not!
