Do you let your dog piss up someone else’s bin?

Every week when we put the bin out ready for collection, our ring doorbell picks up the same neighbour who lives round the corner, let their big ass dog piss up our bin. Would this bother you and would you say something?

When my mum started to develop dementia, she became obsessed with her bins so this thread is a bit worrying. I hope I don't go the same way when my cognitive abilities start to decline.

Don't let your dog pee on my fence! (or etc...whatever that means).

You realise that I don't know where you live? And 'etc' means 'etcetera', and by that I mean bushes, walls, bit of branches on the floor, trees, bins, doors, car wheels.

I thought it was quite simple to work out and didn't realise I'd have to explain it! Do you understand now? Perhaps you could find a 3 year degree course that covers this sort of thing.

It’s my bin. And it sits in my back garden. And if it has foul dog piss on it, it will stink.

My bin doesn’t normally stink, the rubbish is in bags, and we don’t have food waste.

It’s not your bin, it belongs to the council. When you sell the house the bin stays behind.

If you take a step back and forget you hate dogs for a minute, do you not think it’s weird to be so territorial and uptight over bins? Just run the hose over them every now and then. Surely you do that anyway.

A) It’s a bin
B) Bins are grim
C) A bin
D) Eww

Again, people lose all sense of proportion.

A little and no. It's not that important. Turn the hose on it for a minute.

NotPrimrose · 13/05/2026 10:11

I've read the OP's (very few!) posts but not all the others, so apologies if this is repetition.

I'm a dog owner, but don't allow my dog to wee on people's bins. However, now that one dog has done so, OP, lots of other dogs will follow suit - the scent will be a huge draw, and does not fade (to a dog's superior faculties) no matter how much you clean it.

“What about cats” is not a solution to the dog problem. People are experiencing a lot of problems caused by dogs and the antisocial behaviour of their owners. Having a furry piss-everywhere machine on a string is equivalent to pissing everywhere yourself.

a) You brought the dog, you brought the piss
b) Piss is gross
c) It’s piss
d) Ew.

Moveoverdarlin · 13/05/2026 09:52

Wouldn’t bother me. It lives outside. The bottom of the bin is never touched. It rains, it pours, the sun shines. It will be doing literally no damage. Once in a while I pressure wash the bin.

People lose all sense of proportion over dogs. Two, maybe three people have said they let their dogs pee on bins. Most have said I wouldn’t let my dog do it but it wouldn’t bother me too much (what with it being a bin!) And the rest of the thread is people losing their minds - excessive clapping emojis, calling people names, saying this is why we hate you, exaggerating claims and refusing to believe that cats shit in other people’s gardens. Insane.

My motorcycle cover stinks of dogs piss, often I will wear nitrile gloves because even after washing my hands it's difficult to get rid of the dogs piss smell. If my bike is uncovered it's not unknown for dogs to piss against the wheels and tyres. Once one dogs done it they all do it, x marks the spot blah blah. Luckily I dont have to store my bike cover inside as it absolutely stinks. I've owned dogs and would never allow such a thing, I would at least try and drag my dog away.

It's as bad as the people who let their revolting dogs do a poo at the end of our drive. Yes, they pick it up, along with a handful of our gravel. Every year, we have to buy more bags of gravel to replace it. We are surrounded in green spaces and woodland, but we are the favoured dog toilet around here.

Does the gravel also spill out into the pavement?

Harhar · 11/05/2026 23:13

Does your camera notify you every time someone walks past? That might add to you being wound up by things that don’t really matter.

I'd be turning those notifications off.
No it wouldn't bother me.

Bins aren't council property. We have to pay for our own bins, even if the contracted out council bin men have lost them.

Some people are just plain ignorant.
I’ve seen them let their dogs piss on other people’s front doors.
I wonder how they would like it if it was done to them 😡

Our front door is on the street and is frequently pissed on by dogs. Do I care? No, I never touch the bottom of the door and the rain washes it away.

velvetrope · 13/05/2026 07:58

hmmm, I have a female dog so she doesnt do this but considering our front garden has some cat shit in it from our neighbours cats I think they would be rather bloody hypocritical to moan about a bit of wee considering what their cat does 🤮

as far as I am concerned, cat poo is far worse than urine. Yet noone seems up in arms about cats roaming around shitting everywhere

ramonaquimby · 13/05/2026 07:50

Noodge · 12/05/2026 11:21

I have a female dog but I used to have a male and once they decide they're going there's not much you can do about it. But having said that, I honestly could not give less of a bother if someone's dog weed up my bin. Do you bring your bin into your living area? Or enjoy sniffing it? 😯

Sure you can. Tug on their lead and move them...! Or surely you anticipate this. I'm on the disgusting camp. See also tires and fences

Sillygoose100 · 13/05/2026 05:55

I was thinking this the other day when I was sat in traffic and saw a dog do a really long wee up the side of someone's bin and thought its disgusting when that will then sit in someone's back garden.

We have a female dog so she doesn't do that but if we had a male dog I wouldn't let them.

mondaytosunday · 13/05/2026 01:48

I definitely try to avoid my dog doing that but on my street of terrace houses there’d be two bins out pet house every few feet and it’s almost impossible to drag him away from all as we would walk by at least 50 bins before we got to the park!

Zanatdy · 13/05/2026 01:15

Yes bins stink, but no, I wouldn’t let my dog cock his leg against someone’s bin like that. So rude.

DiscoBeat · 13/05/2026 00:37

I have a dog and no, of course not. People don't want a urine soaked bin in their garden

SnobblyBobbly · 13/05/2026 00:15

Fucking hell. How boring must your life be? 😆 You do know there are more exciting things to watch right? Ring isn’t a tv channel.
