I’ve just seen that the Hantavirus is in Liverpool?! They’ve been brought to Liverpool? I’ve got a 2 day work conference there and now I’m worried 😢 I suffer terribly with health anxiety. AIBU?

Exactly, it didn’t do a very good job at containing Covid!

It did an absolutely fine job at containing Covid from the group of individuals who were isolated and screened on that cohort.

The issue with Covid was that it didn’t enter the country through that route.

This hantavirus situation is more straightforward as it’s a very, very isolated cohort that haven’t had any wider interaction with global society.

Liverpool wasn’t chosen as the reception facility because that’s where everyone is from. It’s chosen because it’s got a suitable unit. You are no more or less at risk from infectious diseases at a conference in Liverpool than anywhere else this week. If you don’t want D&V type illnesses stay away from the free food unless it’s professionally served. Open platters with other people’s unwashed hands are your concern at a conference in Liverpool or anywhere else.

This has to be a wind-up post. I appreciate you potentially have health anxiety OP, but posts like yours are incredibly irresponsible.

HarriaHen · 11/05/2026 20:10

You have no reason to worry. However there have been some interesting news on Hantavirus as passengers from the cruise are being repatriated. The US conference was unprofessional and the panellists seem clueless and unaligned, flustered even. The press had some good questions. A French passenger who has been traveling around freely is now in a critical condition. I doubt this will turn into a pandemic but it could turn into localised mini epidemics possibly. It is certainly not a visors I'd like to catch.

Hopefully this thread might reassure you, OP:

Have you actually read the news reports?

Hantavirus is not 'in Liverpool'.
None of the people are known to have hantavirus.
They will not be 'let out'; as and when it's considered appropriate, they will be asked to continue to self isolate at home
They will not be travelling home by public transport.

Covid was a different disease, more transmissable and it had already spread widely so containing it was impossible. This is a very confined issue with a handful of people.

A completely different virus. This one is spread by prolonged contact, not standing near someone like with Covid

But it says they can be let out in 72 hours which will be when I’m at the conference 😢

After 72 hours they are taking private transport to their various homes to continue isolation for 42 days. I suspect these 72 hours are largely being used to educate them and put provisions in place for the quarantine period.

If I had to go up north Hantavirus would be the least of my worries.

Uncalled for classism.

plsbekinddelicate · 11/05/2026 20:05

Is your 2-day conference in the infectious disease unit of the hospital? If so, YANBU to be worried. Any other place YABU.

Jobseeker2026 · 11/05/2026 20:04

I doubt they’ve packed for the conference if they’ve come straight from a cruise so they’ll probably skip this one 😉

They haven’t been brought to Liverpool. Arrowe Park Hospital is on the Wirral and has a special block where they isolated Brits who came from China and tested positive for COVID. It’s been done before. They have the experience. It’ll be nowhere near your conference.

At a conference nowhere bloody near this hospital??

They will be going home to isolate and this will be tracked. They won’t just be let onto public transport. Why not research it instead of causing panic.

Whilst they are discharged from hospital premises they will isolate at home with monitoring. They won’t be wondering around

BIWI · 11/05/2026 20:03

Yes

Zanatdy · 11/05/2026 20:03

are you the same poster worrying about staying in the hotel in Liverpool?

CanaryLibra · 11/05/2026 20:03

I've just seen that the Hantavirus is in Liverpool

You haven't seen that anywhere, and it's not. And it's silly posts like yours that cause people to panic.

Besidemyselfwithworry · 11/05/2026 20:02

Omg I’ve heard it all now!

Its a specialist hospital used for this kind of thing, on the wirral, not Liverpool. Measures are in place and there is no risk to the general public in the locality.

Fgfgfg · 11/05/2026 20:01

They have put people into an isolation hospital on the Wirral. You've got the river Mersey between you and the hospital.
