Yes, you are being very unreasonable! People are isolating at Arrowe Park in Wirral, not Liverpool- and they are isolating!!

I’m in Liverpool - you’ll be fine.

Harshreality · 11/05/2026 20:40

I think you should watch the movie Contagion, just to really get in the mood. The Gwyneth Paltrow gurney scene. That will be wall to wall across the 'Pool.

Calm down

I don’t understand how everyone can be so blasé like they were with Covid. Yes they’re isolating, but only for 72 hours when the incubation period of the disease can be up to 7-8 weeks! This is being handled all wrong. In my opinion, they should be isolating for 8 weeks on the ship or in hospital. No chance of breaking isolation. Lots of these people will go home and within days or weeks will have reasons to leave home or have visitors and then poof - spread.

They’re not only isolating for 72 hours. They are in isolation at Arrowe park for at least 72 hours and then they’ll be taken to their homes to isolate further. It’s not guaranteed they’ll leave the hospital after 72 hours, and the isolation at their home will be monitored (as it was with swine flu).

it’s different with Covid. Covid had thousands of people isolating at any one time and was impossible to contain - the first returnees from China were successfully quarantined at Arrowe park

TipsyLaird · 11/05/2026 20:37

How to single-handedly offend people from the Wirral. Tell them they are from Liverpool. I have relatives who live so close to Arrowe Park hospital that if you threw a ball out of their front garden it's land in the car park. They are not worried.

ClayPotaLot · 11/05/2026 20:37

mumstheword1x · 11/05/2026 20:05

Exactly, it didn’t do a very good job at containing Covid!

It's not the people who are isolated you need to worry about.

Gymnopediegivesmethewillies · 11/05/2026 20:36

TedTookVows · 11/05/2026 20:01

They haven’t been brought to Liverpool. Arrowe Park Hospital is on the Wirral and has a special block where they isolated Brits who came from China and tested positive for COVID. It’s been done before. They have the experience. It’ll be nowhere near your conference.

That’s alright then, because that went well and everything was totally fine.

Seriously OP, it will be fine.

acourtofmistandfury · 11/05/2026 20:32

This entire thing is a shit show. They should’ve been quarantined for 8 weeks on the luxury cruise ship they so desperately wanted to be on

Shortbread49 · 11/05/2026 20:31

It’s not Liverpool it’s the Wirral that is a different place , is on the other side of the River Mersey you should not worry

Flomingho · 11/05/2026 20:30

mumstheword1x · 11/05/2026 20:02

But it says they can be let out in 72 hours which will be when I’m at the conference 😢

I think they still have to self isolate at home upon being discharged from hospital, so you won't be at risk attending your conference.

The US public health officials defined being 6ft away for 15 minutes from someone infected as one type of close contact. How many people in a day do we have that sort of contact with? A bunch I'd say, public transport offices, cafes restaurants, church, concerts, theatre.

Andes virus is the only type of hantavirus known to spread between humans.

While most hantaviruses are "dead-end" infections in humans, this specific strain has caused outbreaks where the virus passed from one person to another.

Evidence suggests the virus might also spread through droplets from coughs or sneezes during the early stages of the illness. It requires direct contact with fluids or very close droplets it is not airborne between humans.

Most documented human to human cases occur between sexual partners, household members, or people sharing a bed. I guess also sharing an office or packed train for a period of time.

Research suggests the virus may be uniquely resistant to human saliva, allowing it to pass through kissing or sharing utensils, whereas other hantaviruses are neutralized by saliva.

Unlike COVID-19, there is no evidence that people without symptoms can spread hantavirus.

15 minutes or more of cumulative exposure over a 24-hour period (e.g., three 5-minute interactions), rather than 15 continuous minutes.

So if someone who is infected and is inclose proximity for a prolonged time sneezing or coughing all over the place it can be transmitted. But it isn't as easily passed on as Covid.

I really wouldn't worry. It may all be contained or a few more small localised outbreaks.

I feel for the poor passengers, how traumatising.

You just said yourself you suffer terribly from health anxiety. So quite obviously you're being unreasonable.

FasterMichelin · 11/05/2026 20:27

ihearyoucalling · 11/05/2026 20:25

Honesty OP, just tell your boss you don't want to go to the conference rather than continually posting on here about how scared you are to go.

Don’t worry, we wouldn’t let you in.

Cathmawr · 11/05/2026 20:22

I think I read your other post about being really anxious to stay in the hotel in Liverpool by yourself?

Kindly OP it sounds as though your anxiety is really affecting your judgement about this trip, I hope you are getting some help with it x

HelenaWilson · 11/05/2026 20:21

The people who are currently suffering with the virus are going to be nowhere near your hotel. They will leave the hospital, be taken by private transport to their homes and stay there.

They are not currently suffering with the virus. The quarantine at this stage is precautionary.

JustAnotherWhinger · 11/05/2026 20:18

mumstheword1x · 11/05/2026 20:02

But it says they can be let out in 72 hours which will be when I’m at the conference 😢

They’re not being let out in 72 hours. They’re going to isolate at home in 72 hours.

They’ll be subject to the protocols used with swine flu. When I had to quarantine with swine flu I was warned I could be arrested if I left my home. I was called twice a day to make sure I was still there - including on occasion at 3am when I cried and begged them to let me bloody sleep as I felt dreadful. I wasn’t even allowed to go to the Dr - they came to me. And my husband and children had to isolate elsewhere (they were ok a weekend away when I was diagnosed and had to stay with PIL until I left my quarantine - it’s a running joke all these years later that I just pretended so I could have longer peace!)

this is very different to Covid as you’re talking about a very small number of people.

Thecomedyclub · 11/05/2026 20:18

Obvs go and buy 1000 loo rolls now!

seriously this is something you could easily have researched. The WHO (World Health Organisation) have been explicitly clear about the transmission routes and the lack of threat to public safety, and there is literally no need to spread misinformation and panic. There are many many viruses worldwide and just because we have experienced Covid 19 (which I am by no means minimising) does not mean that all the other viruses present the same pandemic threat.

Elliania · 11/05/2026 20:17

The people who are currently suffering with the virus are going to be nowhere near your hotel. They will leave the hospital, be taken by private transport to their homes and stay there.
They will not come into contact with you at all. The virus is only passed from person to person via close contact so no, you will be at no risk. I would recommend you seek therapy or medication for your anxiety if you are not already doing so.

ThatLemonBear · 11/05/2026 20:16

You’re being ridiculous. They’re in a hospital on the Wirral, so technically Cheshire not Liverpool. And I very much doubt that after the weeks of hell they’ve been through on board that cruise ship, their first thought on being released will be to head for a bit of shopping in Liverpool city centre

TedTookVows · 11/05/2026 20:16

ScaryM0nster · 11/05/2026 20:12

It did an absolutely fine job at containing Covid from the group of individuals who were isolated and screened on that cohort.

The issue with Covid was that it didn’t enter the country through that route.

This hantavirus situation is more straightforward as it’s a very, very isolated cohort that haven’t had any wider interaction with global society.

Liverpool wasn’t chosen as the reception facility because that’s where everyone is from. It’s chosen because it’s got a suitable unit. You are no more or less at risk from infectious diseases at a conference in Liverpool than anywhere else this week. If you don’t want D&V type illnesses stay away from the free food unless it’s professionally served. Open platters with other people’s unwashed hands are your concern at a conference in Liverpool or anywhere else.

Great post, except again, the hospital is on The Wirral.

Great post as well @HotGazpachothis thread is Scaremongering.

HarriaHen · 11/05/2026 20:15

Zanatdy · 11/05/2026 20:08

A completely different virus. This one is spread by prolonged contact, not standing near someone like with Covid

The US public health officials defined being 6ft away for 15 minutes from someone infected as one type of close contact. How many people in a day do we have that sort of contact with? A bunch I'd say, public transport offices, cafes restaurants, church, concerts, theatre.
