I’ve just seen that the Hantavirus is in Liverpool?! They’ve been brought to Liverpool? I’ve got a 2 day work conference there and now I’m worried 😢 I suffer terribly with health anxiety. AIBU?

How to single-handedly offend people from the Wirral. Tell them they are from Liverpool. I have relatives who live so close to Arrowe Park hospital that if you threw a ball out of their front garden it's land in the car park. They are not worried.

My sister is due to have a baby in the hospital next week
she is not worried

If you hear any phlegmy voices it’s perfectly normal

Isn't there a warehouse (air conditioned)or two stuffed to the rafters with PPE somewhere in the cold dark North?

Which will be instantly moved South if needed!

ghostyslovesheets · 11/05/2026 22:06

Actually think I’ll get it - my mum is going to visit when she gets back from France - via the deadly Wirral

these things come in 3’s

my dad died Thursday
some twat hit my car tonight

stands to reason!

I’m hoping we’ll get at least three out of this. I bet Michelle Mone is rubbing her hands in glee.

ghostyslovesheets · 11/05/2026 22:01

Just avoid the Mersey goldfish op - now to do with the virus just stay away from the water

FairGreyBird · 11/05/2026 22:01

You have every right to be worried. Years back, when we lived in Scotland, it was a right shit-show with ' Ebola isolation'. Pauline McCafferkey (probably mis-spelt), an Ebola nurse first lied and boarded a BA flight, ill with Ebola and lying about it, then came to Scotland with Ebola, the wonderful Scottish NHS was and is not equal to dealing with Ebola and sent her on a military plane to London for treatment. She returned back to Scotland and fell ill again (!!!!), after which she decided to go round schools to tell little children how exciting it is to work in Africa as a nurse and help people. I must say she went round schools after an out-of-hours GP in Victoria infirmary saw her, with her Ebola relapse, and said 'it is probably a wee cold' and did not think to notify Health Authority about a possible Ebola re-lapse.

I have zero confidence about people's intelligence and care for others (i.e. isolating properly and following rules)

But don't be unduly worried - for all we know, they could be living next door to you (carriers I mean) and noone would know.

The OP needs some toilet rolls. A trolley load at least. Best get some pasta, dried yeast and bread flour too.

Although if it's coming from the diseased ridden cesspit that is Liverpool (for clarity, the OPs description not mine), best get some bleach to dowse it in too.

Edited

It's the Wirral and therefore a much classier disease ridden cesspit

Its a specialist hospital used for this kind of thing, on the wirral, not Liverpool. Measures are in place and there is no risk to the general public in the locality.

Its not a specialist hospital for this stuff . Its a staff housing building that they have closed off .
The specialist hospital for this stuff is in Liverpool.

Isn't there a football chant about Scousers, council houses and eating rats? Seem to remember a S.Korean player being mentioned in it

Note to self - read the whole post - also avoid the takeaway near Morton roundabout- my uncle said they sold Alsatian in the 70’s so may have moved to rats due to the COL crisis

To be fair, I edited it to add the bit about the bleach, so was likely a cross post.

My hotel is 11 miles away

I read somewhere that with this virus your chance of survival increases by 1% per mile, so there is hope. Just over 1 in 10, but better than certain death.

But spray them with bleach before delivering them!

Tinned tomatoes as well. Will there be any PPE available for the Conference attendees?

Exactly, it didn’t do a very good job at containing Covid!

Hantavirus and Covid are different viruses and spread differently

NoGarlic · 11/05/2026 21:55

@Elliana and @HarriaHen - You might want a look at this. While I'm not interested in scaremongering, I'm also sceptical of complacency. Even (or especially )when it's being promoted by the UKHSA.

On the index patient in Epuyén, Argentina:
During the 90 minutes he was at the party, he infected five others, including two people sitting roughly a foot from him at the same table and two people who were sitting roughly 4 feet away from him at neighboring tables. The fifth person to catch the virus crossed paths with the patient only briefly on their way to the restroom.

What doctors know about how the Andes hantavirus spreads | CNN

In 2018, health authorities in southern Argentina were scrambling, trying to understand what had caused nearly three dozen people in the tiny village of Epuyen to fall gravely ill. By the end of the outbreak, 11 of them had died.

On my last visit to Liverpool, I was surrounded by four aggressive Scouse seagulls, in a pincer movement to get my chips. I’d had a few fizzy wines though, so my perception might have been a bit off.
