I’ve just read Angela’s Raynor’s statement about why Labour did so badly and what they need to do to change….aibu to think SHE STILL DOESNT GET IT!! Nothing mentioned about welfare, nothing mentioned about immigration-these are 2 subjects most talked about as the reasons why people didn’t vote for Labour.
she might not like it-but id they want to stay in power, they MUST tackle these subjects and not just ignore them because they dint fit her narrative.

Because people believed the lies.

We all know that change needs to happen. Think of it this way, if the Reform policies, that are a cut out from Trump's policies, really work, then why is the US in the shitter and the global economy failing?

Look it up. The standard of living in the US is going down big time. This must be what Reform voters want. The evidence is there for everyone to see. If people want to blindly believe something else, then that's going to be on them.

You're making stuff up (or lieing as you would say).

US GDP in 2024 was 2.8% vs 1.1% for the UK
US GDP in 2025 was 2.1% vs 1.4% for the UK
US GDP forecast 2026 is 1.9-2.6% vs 0.6-1.1% for the UK

Looking at numbers alone it looks like Trump's economic policies deliver far better growth than Starmer's by a very long way. So if Reform's policies are simply a copy of Trump's as you assert the the evidence is that GDP growth wise Reform will do far better than Labour are.

ProudCat · 11/05/2026 21:44

I know, right. It's like the definition of psychotic. Just because someone said it, or I said it, it must be true. If I say it often enough, then it's definitely true. Doesn't matter what the actual truth is. Good knows what these people's relationships look like.

Totally agree, there is a massive difference in legal immigration and unvetted criminals, mainly men coming on a boat. The radical left seem to group these two groups together.

What do you mean by the ‘radical left’?

Did you actually see the results of the local elections and read about why so many previous Labour voters rejected Labour?

why do you think Reform attracted so many new voters?

No men round my way look or dress like Farage and I live in a reasonably large city. The only place I see men standing around with a drink and a fag is outside some of the pubs in town and they certainly aren't wearing yellow cords, Barbour waxed jackets and a flat cap. You defend him so I made the assumption that you liked him.

Hahaha - some people live outside cities you know.

Whoops got the wrong party, Reclaim was/is Laurence Fox's outfit and Lowe's is Restore, why do they all begin with "R" ?

The tag line is 'millions must go'.

And they don't mean just illegal immigration. I believe they are very big on the low paid Boris wave and any non UK born person who has committed a crime.

I haven't looked into them admittedly, I have heard them mentioned as the thing we should be worried about coming hot on the heels of Reform. I've seen it mentioned in a shocking amount of online comments lately, mainly 'I only voted Reform because Restore wasn't running in my area'.

I'm not sure we should gloat over them potentially splitting the right wing vote, after all I was sure that was what would happen with Reform/Conservative... and look how that is going!

Yanbu and I think less of her now than before. It all just seems like a hatchet job on Starmer now to avenge her paying the price for her own hubris over taxes.

Where did I say I liked him? I just pointed out that standing around with a pint and a fag is pretty normal whereas Rayner is an embarrassment. Not because of her accent or her class but because of her behaviour.

No one on here is applying a different standard to her because she’s a woman or because of her class. I’m not sure how many times we can say it to get the message through.

What do you think Farage is ‘really’ like if going to the pub and being ‘a man of the people’ is all an act? He looks like a pretty typical bloke to me?

I was talking about that to a friend of mine, her mum came over from Jamacia and she is anxious about it, not so much the threat of deportation at present but the fact that it is being openly discussed. Isn't Reclaim's slogan "one million must go" or something equally unpleasant. Wonder what they plan to do with people like me, born here with one white uk parent and one from India, chop me up perhaps?

You like him, I don't, I think his "man of the people" act is just that an act and I also think that Rayner gets real flack simply because of her accent and her background. I have no particular opinion of her though I appreciate she is hated and a lot of it seems (note I said seems) to be rooted in what is consider unseemly behaviour for a woman. The standads and expectations for women are always higher than they are for men. Thank heavens Farage was fullly clad, have you seen that pic from his Cameo account where he is wearing shorts? I am not sure what Rayner was up to in the dinghy, was she on holiday, official business or filming a Cameo greeting al la Farge or making a Tik Tok. I am guessing it was huge news in the Mail online

Given Reform are offering to revoke the visas of people with Indefinite Leave to Remain and cutting the number of people coming in on student visas, and Rupert Lowe’s crew are discussing revoking the citizenship of British-born black and Asian people, I don’t think that is actually the case at all.

As a side, do you remember Theresa? The Health Sec?!

Ooh, forgotten about her, but now I think about her i recall her saying it was ok to give your left over antbiotics to a friend or relative during her brief tenure as Health Secretary, what a loss to health and wellbing she was!

Angela Rayner

This was a year ago and she was on holiday and apparently she has now quit vaping. Do you relax on holiday, have a bit of fun and maybe dress down when you aren't at work? Why do photos of someone having some down time cause such ire in people, no wonder many are put off going into public life, you need a hide like a rhino.

Lifeomars · 11/05/2026 20:16

CornishDaughteroftheDawn · 11/05/2026 19:08

Although arguably slightly less healthy, as Nigel Farage was standing fully clothed enjoying his pint and his fag - Angela was looking far less dignified floating around in her vest on a dinghy with her vape.

I don’t understand your point about different standard as that is not what happened here. If Angela was standing around fully clothed with a pint and a fag but got slated for it you might have a point but she didn’t.

I’ll look forward to your Farage thread - if the extent of the gripes that people have with him are the often fictional or creative ones being aired on this thread, it will be a pretty positive one.

If someone is claiming they are gay when they are not, or pretending to convert to Christianity when they are not, and they do this to stay here when they would otherwise not be entitled, then yes, they are abusing the system.

There is little proof of that happening though, and even if it does, their applications are reviewed every five years.

Also, as I said, if we don't like the criteria, we should change the system.

HappiestSleeping · 11/05/2026 20:14

genesis92 · 11/05/2026 14:04

Net migration has only got lower in their term because so many British people are LEAVING the country. The number of immigrants entering the country hasn’t actually got much lower at all.

Hope that helps

There is no actual proof of that. There is proof that migrant entry is reducing and that returns are increasing.

Hope that helps.

FasterMichelin · 11/05/2026 20:09

YABU. I don’t think parties should bend to popular views any sign people don’t like what they say, that’s the whole problem with politics today!

Parties should be fighting for what they consider to be right. People either agree or disagree with them, vote for them or don’t.

Morality shouldn’t be switched on and off according to what mainstream media decide to back - which goes on to influence the public.

Stand by your morals and fight for what’s right - that’s what politics should be about.

Playing gambling games with other people’s money and making millions is not “working in finance”. Accountancy is.

Or listen to what the people of this country actually want? People do not (in general) want more illegal immigrants. They do not want their taxes going up at the same time as welfare spending going up whilst dealing with increased COL themselves.

Labour are not LISTENING.

Most welfare spending - over half - goes on the state pension. What do people want done about that?

We have an aging population, a birthrate far below replacement level and older people vote, so the parties do tend to listen to them and it's why, so far, the state pension has been untouchable and the attempt to cut the WFA failed.

What about high housing costs - an issue that again nobody wants to address because nobody who owns property wants to see prices come down, so instead we give billions to landlords via benefits just so people can keep a roof over their heads.

Reform aren't the answer to those issues. They're climate change deniers - as many on the right seem to be - presumably because they're in the pockets of fossil fuel companies and climate change driven immigration actually benefits them as they can use it to scaremonger to their hearts content.

He made money, seemingly he got his millions from somewhere (putting aside his £5m “personal” donation for a minute) from playing with other’s money. That is not a proper job. Remember when the bankers crashed the UK economy at no loss to themselves?

People with proper jobs are noticed if they are absent from work, teachers, fire service, doctors, nurses and administrators who keep systems working.

Urgh. I live in a town that's 30% Muslim and I don't recognise what you're saying at all. Two cultures can exist quite peacefully side by side. It's not either/or.

A lot of the places that are most upset about immigration are the places where they haven't ever experienced it, ie up in Northumberland. They're personally untouched by it and that makes it the scary, unseen bogeyman.

That really isn’t true. Have you ever been to parts of Birmingham , Sparkbrook, Sparkhill.

I recall that Rachel Reeves was working for HBOS at the time - no doubt you blame her as well.
