I’ve just read Angela’s Raynor’s statement about why Labour did so badly and what they need to do to change….aibu to think SHE STILL DOESNT GET IT!! Nothing mentioned about welfare, nothing mentioned about immigration-these are 2 subjects most talked about as the reasons why people didn’t vote for Labour.
she might not like it-but id they want to stay in power, they MUST tackle these subjects and not just ignore them because they dint fit her narrative.

Exactly right. And where are Suella and Honest Bob now? Oh yeah, that's right. It is farcical isn't it?

@Havanananana why is she called Suella Bobblehead? Isn’t it… Braverman?

The fact that a proportion of voters shunned Labour because of their own racist views on immigration doesn’t mean that Labour should go down that road. I’ve always voted Labour but I certainly wouldn’t if they started adopting Reform policies.

Being concerned about immigration, or being anti-immigration, is not racist.
It’s a valid political position.

We need bread and roses! Also, people are now finding out that the bread offered by Trump is not bread at all - it’s just fake bread.

In fairness, Trump and Reform are doing the exact same thing - making loads of promises to the electorate that they have no hope of delivering. 'I will stop the war in Ukraine in one day.' 'We will stop the small boats.' And the fact that most of us do realise that these promises can't and won't be delivered is the reason people think Reform voters are stupid.

I think that's unfair. I think Farage has done a good job of pretending to be the party of the working class, by blaming all their woes on immigration, when it's obviously far more complex a picture than just that. And he doesn't actually give a shit about the working class. He's not working class himself and nor are the vast majority of the people (largely ex-Tories) he's recruiting into the party, so of course they're not going to care. His financial backers are millionaires or billionaires, which tells you everything you need to know about whose interests he's actually looking out for.

Sir Kier is talking now. If he wasn’t reading from an autocue I would maybe have more empathy for him but my goodness what a rubbish PM we have. He just can’t take ownership for anything. Blame everyone but yourself and the electorate delivers the message loud and clear.

Keir? Or Kier? And why ‘Sir Kier’?

Thefastandthecurious5 · 11/05/2026 10:25

Also, @CornishDaughteroftheDawn, @Philgooglemail is not comparing ‘the Holocaust’ (specifically, the Nazis’ extermination of 6 million European Jews) to Reform, but in fact comparing Hitler’s speeches to Farage’s speeches - and they’re oddly similar. I think Phil is absolutely right to point this out. What are your thoughts?

Did you actually see the results of the local elections and read about why so many previous Labour voters rejected Labour?

why do you think Reform attracted so many new voters?

He wasn't 'supposed to remain impartial' - especially as a freelancer. That was a big part of the whole story, and the main reason he was reinstated. And it wasn't misconduct. Not even close.

Also the BBC is neither right or left wing, despite some spikiness in the distribution of how that presents. I know people there who can confirm, they try very hard as an organisation to be as impartial as possible, and there are many people who spend most of their role worrying about whether they're managing it. And they get huge amounts of stick from both sides.

As an extremely paid well known representative of the BBC, there should be a reasonable expectation of impartiality. The fact that they managed to get around it on technical employment contract grounds does them no favours.

I’m guessing you don’t watch much BBC atm. Or have left wing views so can’t see the bias. The BBC have been caught lying and misrepresenting the truth on so many occasions it’s a joke and BBC ‘Verify’ is headed up by a woman who lied on her cv and struggles with spotting facts in front of her and understanding the law.

I know there are good people left in the BBC but they are mostly silenced by the ideologues in charge. I used to be a huge supporter of the BBC until I saw what they really were.

Its down because the Tories changed the rules on bringing over dependants for people studying. People who didnt work, didnt contribute.

It was also up because they changed the rules to encourage it, and left the EU which helped manage it, so net net, I'd say they made it worse.

They need to start listening to the public on immigration and learn how a successful economy should work.

Labour will never understand economics, as a poster up thread said, socialism can never work, because as lovely as it sounds it’s just not how the majority of humans work.
I’ve said this previously and I’ll say it again; every labour government borrows heavily, every conservative governments tries to make up the deficit. If the previous labour government had stayed in power, they too would have to have made unpopular choices. This labour government have managed to go even further to fuck up the economy. It’s predictable and so boring, because next government in, will have no choice but to cut the welfare bill. Hitler got into power because economically Germany was broken, the people were suffering, and Hitler promised a Utopia to the German populace (okay I’m putting it in very simplistic terms) but all governments need to read the warnings. I don’t want reform in, but nor do I want to be ruled by a party driven by spite and envy (vat of private school fees), or a party that doesn’t understand how businesses work (labour are going to drive up inflation if they carry on with their current plans).
what I want is a common sense party which;
understand how economics work and encourage businesses
you need private investors and businesses to grow an economy but you also need the government to invest as well
you need sensible not punitive tax systems in place.
we need to tackle the problems within schools; teachers need more autonomy and a huge shake up of education, to make it accessible to all.
we need a zero tolerance approach to antisocial behaviour.
we need to invest in much better mental health support (it’s always been the poorer cousin to physical health and a backwater for investment into research)
we do need to tackle economic immigration.
we need to sort out our bloody roads out!!
we need politicians with integrity, who are willing to stick their head above the parapet, and make choices which not everyone will want or like.

The irony is that immigration reached a peak when Suella Bobblehead and Honest Bob Jenrick were the ministers in charge of immigration under the previous government.

And Farage's Brexit resulted in millions of hard-working Europeans being told to bugger off back where they came from, to be replaced by workers from Nigeria, India, Zimbabwe, Nepal and elsewhere - workers who have been exploited by visa-scammers, gangmasters and unscrupulous employers.

Exactly right. And where are Suella and Honest Bob now? Oh yeah, that's right. It is farcical isn't it?

Nobody is offering bread and roses. That’s the point, You have to chose and people chose bread. It doesn’t matter if Trump’s bread is fake - the election is over and he won.

We have the sound bites from hitler now what about these:

Allah’s Messenger said, “The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. ‘O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him.’”
(Sahih Bukhari 4:52:177; see also Sahih Bukhari 4:52:176; Sahih Muslim 41:6985)

Do not greet the Jews and the Christians before they greet you and when you meet any one of them on the roads force him to go to the narrowest part of it.
(Sahih Muslim 39:16, see also Sunan Abu Dawud 41:5186)[5]

On his death-bed Allah’s Messenger ( put a sheet over his-face and when he felt hot, he would remove it from his face. When in that state (of putting and removing the sheet) he said, “May Allah’s Curse be on the Jews and the Christians for they build places of worship at the graves of their prophets.” (By that) he intended to warn (the Muslim) from what they (i.e. Jews and Christians) had done. (Sahih Bukhari 4:56:660)[6]

No Muslim would die but Allah would admit in his stead a Jew or a Christian in Hell-Fire.
(Sahih Muslim 37:6666)[7]
There would come people amongst the Muslims on the Day of Resurrection with as heavy sins as a mountain, and Allah would forgive them and He would place in their stead the Jews and the Christians.
(Sahir Muslim 37:6668)[8

A group of Bani Isra’il (Jews) was lost. I do not know what happened to it, but I think (that it ‘underwent a process of metamorphosis) and assumed the shape of rats. Don’t you see when the milk of the camel is placed before them, these do not drink and when the milk of goat is placed before them, these do drink.” (Sahih Muslim 42:7135)[11]

And

Muhammad commanded his followers to “kill any Jew that falls into your power.”
“The apostle said, ‘Kill any Jew that falls into your power.’ Thereupon Muhayyisa b. Mas’ud leapt upon Ibn Sunayna, a Jewish merchant with whom they had social and business relations, and killed him. Huwayyisa was not a Muslim at the time though he was the elder brother. When Muhayyisa killed him Huwayyisa began to beat him, saying, ‘You enemy of God, did you kill him when much of the fat on your belly comes from his wealth?’ Muhayyisa answered, ‘Had the one who ordered me to kill him ordered me to kill you I would have cut your head off.’ He said that this was the beginning of Huwayyisa’s acceptance of Islam. The other replied, ‘By God, if Muhammad had ordered you to kill me would you have killed me?’ He said, ‘Yes, by God, had he ordered me to cut off your head I would have done so.’ He exclaimed, ‘By God, a religion which can bring you to this is marvellous!’ and he became a Muslim.”[23]

Kim Jong Un?

He's a communist in name only. Really he's just an authoritarian dictator. As Chat GPT has informed me - while formally sitting on the extreme economic left through state control of the economy, the regime is better defined as a totalitarian, nationalist dictatorship.

Until the labour party understands that socialism will never work, they have no chance.

Unfortunately they all believe in socialism so they will never give that up.

She just can't see that her workers reforms are a big part of the problem.

All they are concentrating on is the losses in Wales and they have not addressed the losses to Reform at all because they can't as they have no answer.

The also think that all the people who voted reform are idiots.

Edited

Socialism gave us the NHS, workers rights, including maternity rights, and so much more. It was socialist suffragettes who got us the vote. Without socialism you wouldn't be able to voice an opinion on who is in power in the UK. Labour under Starmer have lost their way and we need to get back to what Labour was formed to do - standing up for the more vulnerable and powerless in society.

most of the methods they have stated currently are either not possible or are against the law

Then they will ignore the law - I think that’s what people are hoping. It’s the approach Trump has taken in America.

Fortunately, we have a lot of processes to prevent a government ignoring the law. Trump isn't doing so well ignoring the law as many of his decisions that have have been reversed. He then looks like an idiot for not being able to follow through.

Then being intereviewed by Sky News and talked about 'nesting' with her ex (from 300 miles away).

She is a shameless liar. And some want her for PM??

Whereas Honest Bob Jenrick (who might actually be the Reform's candidate for PM as Farage won't want to give up the side-hustles and millions of pounds of "gifts") charged the taxpayers hundreds of throusands for his house in Newark, where he's rarely seen, while owning two other million-pound houses.

Absolutely. Up the workers. Pigs in the trough. She was bloody Housing Minister and claimed that she was advised incorrectly by some middle of nowhere solicitors. I suspect she knew she was on dodgy ground and thought she would wing it.

For me it wasnt the SD error it was the robbing of her disabled son's trust fund to pay for a property with her latest boyfriend who has been fired by the LP. You really couldnt make this up.

Do you know how things work when you have a disabled child? they split up, but her child couldn't leave the family home as was adapted for him- my husband and I would be in exactly the same boat and would have to do the same if we were to split. She didn't "pick pocket" anything of her sons, and I believe the property is entirely in trust for him- rightly so.

I left the Labour Party 30 odd years ago, having been quite active. Mostly because it was always "you must support us, then after the revolution we'll be able to deliver feminism, gay rights, etc". Just too much idealism of big change rather than the pragmatism of continuous small improvements.

It was striking after the US election when journalists were interviewing voters and politicians just how many people were saying “I voted for Trump because if the economy” “I voted for Trump because food is too expensive” “I voted for Trump because we need more jobs” “I voted for Trump because he will reopen factories”. They didn’t love Trump, they were just skint and wanted more money in their pockets. Whereas on the Dem side it was more “We campaigned for LGBTQI+ rights and it’s a disaster that we weren’t listened to ” “They didn’t listen to our message on diversity” “Trump will not do anything to support trans kids” “I don’t understand why women/black people can vote for that man” but they didn’t offer anything useful like jobs and affordable food. When one person offers you bread and the other offers you what they think is roses then you take the bread. Even if it’s just a small chance that the bread will be delivered. Even if you want the roses, and lots of people don’t want those particular roses.
Reform link their “policies” to directly helping the British people. Particularly the working people. I personally think it’s mainly bollocks and we’d mostly be screwed if they did get in but still, the message is “a vote for us is a vote for yourself”. Labour policy is all about supporting someone else “a vote for us is for benefits claimants” “a vote for us means other people never have to make their own kids breakfast again” or “a vote for is is a vote for grooming gangs” “a vote for us means if you don’t work you are better off than any over privileged fat-cat upstart who is arrogant enough to try to run a small business”.

That’s actually really interesting and never thought about like that. Thank you.

one of the reasons I don’t vote labour or anyone on the left is that I never feel that they see me. It always feels like what they can get from me. Nothing is ever about how my life can be made better, simply how I can be milked to look after everyone else.

thepariscrimefiles · 11/05/2026 10:19

ThisDandyWriter · 11/05/2026 08:31

So just slightly more than half the vote went to 3 parties combined. Which means that slightly under half the vote went to one party (Reform)? I think you answered your own argument.

Reform probably would reduce illegal immigration as they have no respect for UK and international law so would employ methods that other parties would consider illegal and inhumane. They would have no qualms about sinking small boats and dinghies and letting people drown and shooting migrants so it probably would act as a strong deterrant. I'm sure that there are loads of Reform voters that would sign up for doing that.

They'd be utterly shit at everything else related to running a country though.

Good. I hope the Labour Party never listen to racists like you. They’re not Reform. They don’t just say what the racists want to hear. They were voted in on a set of principles and they’re acting on them. Good on them and good on Starmer.

Why are you throwing around accusations of ‘racist’ at random people? Are you aware how silly that sounds?

I’m not sure why you think it is ‘good’ that Labour aren’t listening to the electorate as we currently live in a democracy so they are just ensuring they will be emphatically be voted out as soon as possible.

They were voted in on a set of principles and they’re acting on them.

Except that they’ve done little that they were voted in for and lots that we don’t want.
