My next door neighbours are horrendous, constantly screaming at each other and the kids. They can't talk at a normal volume at all & the wife seems to goad her family into constant arguments.

My solution? Heavy metal or opera at full blast pointed towards their wall, it works a treat every time. Mainly because the musical screeching interrupts their argumentative flow & confuses them.

Since my musical interventions, they've toned down their arguments because I've trained them like a dog. The woman used to glare at me but doesn't anymore because she's aware that I know all the secrets of her marriage.

So if any of you lot screetch at full volume, be aware that your neighbours have heard EVERYTHING. Including how shit your dh is in bed, affairs and financial problems etc. Neighbours are quite happy to tell the street and throw it back in your face if you behave like an arsehole one day!

I would try opera. Maria Callas is a good start.

Telling an upset child to fuck off and that they’re a nob is abusive and horrendous behaviour. If you ring the police it might save a child and end your own problem of having to listen to them.

Are you seriously expecting the police to attend a stressed mother yelling at her toddler having a tantrum?!

Really?!

Its more likely that the OP would be flagged for being one of "those" neighbours and if she calls again, she would be assumed to be a professional PITA, even if her neighbour was actually murdering her child.

because ALL abuse starts somewhere

ultimately it’s your choice whether to report or not but you need to be aware that these things can escalate quickly especially if someone is struggling and maybe has no support.

Do I live in a weird bubble?
What a really rude thing to say -

I'm saying from years of safeguarding training in various roles, I’ve seen all sorts and your attitude is that you don’t want to report it but you want to moan about it - not really helpful for anyone is it?

Its the British way we just like a good moan. From my experience of abuse I'm more concerned about the parents who put on the perfect parent act infront of others. Thats what the real narcissists do.

Plant some smelly horse manure next to adjoining fence if she sits in garden.

isthesolution · 09/05/2026 15:31

I think an anonymous report to social services might be useful. They can check all is ok. See if she needs support. Even if all is well she may be more mindful of her behaviour.

Anouken · 09/05/2026 15:30

Oh play music she doesn't appreciate, or a highbrow radio talk show and put the speaker next to the fence. Do some fake noisy DIY on adjoining interior wall early or late in the evening.

sittingonabeach · 09/05/2026 15:27

Does mum’s behaviour happen regularly? If so I would report to social services

Why would the child end up beaten. Thats a massive stretch from someone telling their kid to shut the fuck up or telling them to stop being a knob. Do you live in some kind of weird bubble surrounded by Mary Poppins and miss honey type parents.

So you do speak to her.

offer her a cup if tea - maybe she’ll accept and stop shouting or take the hint and stop shouting

No because then her bratty kids would be in my house

Well if that child ends up beaten black and blue or the mother ends up in some sort of serious mental health crisis where it’s a danger to her and the child -

you’ve ignored it
you were aware
you’ve got to live with that

she might be really struggling and need help

I’ve done loads of safeguarding training over the years this is a big red flag and I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t do anything - there’s some uncaring people on here

I recommend Sleep Jar, rainforest sounds. I have it on almost all the time due to noise issues.

Between telling OP to go round and offer the mother a cup of tea and insisting that she call the police, this thread is wild🤣🤣🤣

youalright · 09/05/2026 15:02

Besidemyselfwithworry · 09/05/2026 14:58

Still report it
no matter how small
they’ll keep a record and should further more serious events occur it builds up a picture

why are people normalising this?

there was another thread with a dad telling a tiny baby to shut the f* up! And the mum questioning if it was an issue?

as I said on that thread people have very low standards of what is acceptable

No im not calling the police thats ridiculous

Do you speak to this neighbour at all? If she’s next door can you not offer her a cup of tea and some conversation? Shouting and swearing at a toddler isn’t great but maybe she has other stuff going on and it’s the last straw?

I had a neighbour like this years ago, fortunately our kids were roughly the same age so I’d invite them round and distract her and them.

Only in passing were not friends

Calling the police out to a tantrumming toddler?????
That sounds reasonable 🤣🤣🤣

Yes OP put your music on. I'd play something like Slipknot at full volume till they take the hint.

I played pink family portrait
