AIBU to find my husband's constant undressing at home annoying?

My husband has asked me to post on here to guage opinions.
The minute he gets in the door he takes his top off, often- his trousers too and will just be wearing pants. He says it is more comfortable.

I'm starting to find it really annoying, once in a while if it's really hot it makes sense. But it is literally all summer and winter. It means he can't ever answer the door, just pop into the garden or grab something from the car. And to be honest, I just don't like it.

Apparently it is completely normal (his dad did it too) and he thinks I would be surprised because everyone does this in their own homes??

you are comparing tight underpants with gym leggings?

Edited

You've posted probably the most demure leggings I've seen in a while and the
bulgiest pants.

If you look at the two I've posted (M&S and GymShark) there's little.difference.

Interestingly MN filters are questioning one of those pictures as a sensitive image. I'll leave you to.comment on which you think it is.

The only part that would annoy me would be that he wouldn’t go in garden or pop to car etc. can’t he wear some comfy jogger type shorts instead? Still comfy but suitable to be seen in public in!

Doggymummar · 10/05/2026 16:36

Grim as fuck. I shower and change into a lounge coord or pjs if it's bedtime but not jus5 pants

Rewis · 10/05/2026 16:34

My partner likes to walk around shirtless during summer. I really find it offputting. But I can't really ask him to wear one.
Similarly I don't like it when people just walk around shirtless or in bikinis around town and parks etc.

Doone22 · 10/05/2026 16:31

It might bother you but it would drive me insane with rage if someone told me I wasn't allowed to take my bra off when I got home for example. It's not like he's a nudist.

Boomer55 · 10/05/2026 16:28

Surely your husbands body doesn’t offend you? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

ThatMiddleClassFood · 10/05/2026 16:28

My dad did this and I hated it as a kid meant I couldn't invite friends in the house, made it awkward when family popped over to say hi so they stopped popping over. It's weird, buy a light pair of shorts and wear them round the house.

You’re a man with a pair of shorts that are no different to a pair or underpants @NotAnotherScarf ?

Please, please, for the sake of others, bin these shorts

I think reference is being made to small swimming trunks there, as in France many places don’t permit baggy shorts or board shorts in the pool for hygiene reasons.

DH and I are always fully nude at home unless it's absolutely freezing.

Isn’t that impractical? Cooking, having to protect surfaces you sit on, having to be ready to put something on when someone comes to the door? Keeping curtains closed?

Apparently he's too hot.

I assume there is an option to turn down the heating but OP doesn't seem to suggest that's possible.

So, that sounds like pot/kettle/black on the care less and compromises front

Doubt heating is on given its May and very mild

Branwells77 · 10/05/2026 16:20

My DH will always come home and go straight upstairs and change in to lounge wear rather than sitting in jeans or trousers his lounge wear are full length bottoms and a hoodie in the summer it will likely be knee length shorts and a T-shirt.
If he has been to work he will come in go straight in the shower and will come down in his dressing gown he is always covered and his dressing gown is to his shins so again well covered.
He would never walk around in just boxer shorts.

That feels a bit judgemental

After all, nobody seems to quibble about really tight leggings that show off everything in the gym or the street.

So to complain about outlines and bulges in private seems picky.

This is a good point. He must know it bothers OP and yet he keeps doing it. No compromises.

I suppose it depends on the pants , if they are boxer type maybe ok if they are skimpy ones , not so good .

I think this is a common thing amongst blokes tbh. My fiancée runs hot and I refer to him as a human BBQ as he's always toasty warm, he's usually in the buff or pants 😅
My brother was always in boxers at home, maybe a football shirt too. On the downside an uncle who wore white Y fronts in the house, including in front of his mother, what a twat 😆

Threeslothsontheshirt · 10/05/2026 16:11

MaryBeardsShoes · 08/05/2026 16:52

My dad did this and it was awful growing up in the house with him. He often didn’t wear pants either. God I hated it!

😱

Conkersinautumn · 10/05/2026 16:07

I'm in menopause also auadhd and I get the need to get out of my overstimulating, too warm, too much clothes the second I get home. So, I get into a huge moomoo (mu mu?) Neck to floor wafty kaftan(?) No idea what they're called. But they're perfect, cool and I can still do useful things if needs be, but I do get into a loose dress if I need to go to any shops. Guys can definitely wear these garments too.

SkyLark79 · 10/05/2026 16:06

It’s definitely not ‘normal’ … most people put on comfy/home only clothes once they know they aren’t going out again. My partner will take his trousers off but keep his boxers and hoody on, if it’s cold he will put pj bottoms on. It’s definitely odd if there’s others at home - what he does alone is his business 🤣

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 10/05/2026 16:05

my autistic 9 year old sometimes walk around in pants (and I had to make it a pants rule as otherwise he’d be naked and we gave large windows 🙈), he is often topless but the rest of us wear clothes!

ForCosyLion · 08/05/2026 17:38

Squirrel?? Is that a typo?

Why do people so often write things on MN that I don't understand!

Its in reference to Friday night dinner

LilWoosmum82 · 10/05/2026 16:01

My ex used to undress to go to the toilet, it was weirdest thing ever.

PhaedraTwo · 10/05/2026 15:59

DevonMum123 · 10/05/2026 15:46

I don't think it's common at all. We get changed into our home clothes when come home from work, for me yoga pants and sweatshirt. Hubby has lounge pants and tshirt.

I would hate anyone topless in the house, I would find it gross if he was sweating on the sofa 🤢

Same here. My reaction reading the OP was "ugh"

NimbleGreenSquid · 10/05/2026 15:52

What a weird take, comparing a wife to children. My DH would never dream of dictating to me what I did and didn’t wear in the house in the presence of my adult partner; likewise I would extend him the same courtesy because I’m an adult and don’t get the childish “ick” over someone in their pants in their own home, whom I’m married to. I do apologise if my lack of pearl clutching is problematic to you

Dictating? If my husband said something I was doing was making him feel uncomfortable at home, and that he was concerned about how the children will see this as they grow up and have friends over - I would adapt.

NimbleGreenSquid · 10/05/2026 15:52

Fullofcorn · 10/05/2026 15:48

Well there we go “DC not withstanding”

so you would adapt for someone you care about.

and I would suppose he doesn’t just pay for the house alone

Hatty123 · 10/05/2026 15:51

We wear clothes in our home. Shoes off in the hall, slippers on. I think I’d find someone sitting around leaning on furniture with inevitably sweaty underarms / bottoms etc in summer a bit gross. But i guess the idea of my husband’s or my genital areas or breast bouncing around very clearly in front of our children and tween daughter just doesn’t sit well with me. We are teaching them that their bottoms etc are private. Mum and Dad’s bottoms should be private too. Anyway, it’s not “normal” in our home, in any of our families’ homes or in any of our friends’ homes 🤷🏻‍♀️
If it makes you uncomfortable I think he should wear a loose tee and shorts at least. He wouldn’t be “hot” but you’d feel comfortable in your own home.
