AIBU to find my husband's constant undressing at home annoying?

My husband has asked me to post on here to guage opinions.
The minute he gets in the door he takes his top off, often- his trousers too and will just be wearing pants. He says it is more comfortable.

I'm starting to find it really annoying, once in a while if it's really hot it makes sense. But it is literally all summer and winter. It means he can't ever answer the door, just pop into the garden or grab something from the car. And to be honest, I just don't like it.

Apparently it is completely normal (his dad did it too) and he thinks I would be surprised because everyone does this in their own homes??

OP Ive got to ask - does he do it in front of guests?

Yes thank you op

it’s really not good - I find cotton can be cooler than wearing nothing

he really needs to wear loungers indoors

its nothing to do with being care free but rather “care less” about others who you are living with and how they feel

This is a good point. He must know it bothers OP and yet he keeps doing it. No compromises.

He wears those very small skin right boxers

Yeah course he does

He looks like Jacob Elordi too

Totally unacceptable, some dude strolling around in his flamin underpants

I know!

can’t believe anyone thinks it’s ok

Mulledjuice · 08/05/2026 17:15

I came for the lovely bit of squirrel and I was not disappointed

honeylulu · 08/05/2026 17:15

One of my kids used to do this the moment they got home from nursery, she'd start pulling her clothes off AS we went in the front door and just wear pants. She outgrew it by the time she was school age though!

Has he explained why he does it? He won't answer the door like that so he clearly considers it impolite in some way. It would annoy me, sweating all over the furniture and leaving me to solely answer the door like a Victorian maid.

Zanatdy · 08/05/2026 17:15

Turn the heating off in winter, he will soon keep clothes on. Weird in my book.

Millymollymandy4 · 08/05/2026 17:14

Also potentially teaching your kids it’s normal to walk around undresses in the day - which to me is opposite of teaching them about their own private bodies

TunnocksOrDeath · 08/05/2026 17:13

'Not be able to answer the door' due to his own choice to be near-naked would grate with me.
I'd also be bothered because he'll be shedding sweat and skin cells onto all the sofas and whatnot. Mostly this gets 'caught' by clothes or sheets that then get washed, so someone lounging about on the sofa with bare skin as an every day thing would annoy me a bit, especially if it's after a whole day out and about and he didn't shower first.

What does having small children have to do with it? I think it’s good for them to see someone who clearly doesn’t give a shit. I do wonder how people actually get married when they are clearly so different.

She was answering my question!

what a jump on!

FurierTransform · 08/05/2026 17:09

Just let him do his thing? What harm does it cause ultimately.

FreddysFingers · 08/05/2026 17:09

Well he can put some clothes on to go out to the car, or dressing gown on answer the door - it's not fair to leave it all to you once he steps through the door.

AgnesX · 08/05/2026 17:08

So does he wear sagging y fronts or tight whitey type shorts or boxers?

If it's the sagging y fronts then yuk. The others aren't so bad

I suppose it depends on the pants , if they are boxer type maybe ok if they are skimpy ones , not so good .

The OP asked for opinions. I gave mine. I don't need to justify it.

Ok 😂

What kind of pants does he wear OP?

A tiny g string I assume

Imdunfer · 08/05/2026 17:07

I have no logical explanation for why I would find that annoying OP, but I'm with you, I would find that annoying.

The closest I can come to any sort of explanation is that it means that any spontaneous decisions to do anything outside the house are delayed by him getting dressed.

That the need for him to get dressed will ruin the spontaneity to the point where I wouldn't suggest the outing.

That he's already stripped off if we decide on having a romantic evening in.

That there nothing less sexy than seeing someone naked or almost naked all the time.

That I've been brought up all my life to believe that it's respectful to be clothed around other people and it does "feel" disrespectful.

Interesting thread, thank you! Please let us know how he reacts.

We have small children. I have brought him loads of PJ's and comfy shorts. He says he is too hot.

I do the same tbh, im doors bra off t-shirt and boxers on bliss, sometimes sports bra and pants.

Well when you come to think off it most on mumsnet dont care if there own kids see them naked.

I don't want to make light of this, but it did make me think of Martin in Friday Night Dinner 😁

I’m bloody boiling
