AIBU to find my husband's constant undressing at home annoying?

My husband has asked me to post on here to guage opinions.
The minute he gets in the door he takes his top off, often- his trousers too and will just be wearing pants. He says it is more comfortable.

I'm starting to find it really annoying, once in a while if it's really hot it makes sense. But it is literally all summer and winter. It means he can't ever answer the door, just pop into the garden or grab something from the car. And to be honest, I just don't like it.

Apparently it is completely normal (his dad did it too) and he thinks I would be surprised because everyone does this in their own homes??

I wear my pjs during the day and then get dressed when we go out for lunch because it is more comfortable. During the winter I wear my anorak in the house as well to keep warm. DW objects regularly to both. We are retired. We live in an old house but have the thermostat on at about 18C.

That’s lovely, but why is it relevant for a conversation about a man who sits naked apart from skimpy pants at home all the time.

Sitting about in his pants like a toddler! 🤣 Yes, that's it!

It is though isn’t it, it’s what toddlers do, he’s just missing the nappy. And he’s bleating that but my dada did it too. Complete ick from me. My legs would seal shut,

Wouldn’t annoy me, it’s his home too, I walk around in a crop top and small shorts at home all the time 🤷

Is he really boiling, Jackie?

It would annoy me, too. It is a bit weird.

lol

I was going to say, are you married to Martin from Friday Night Dinner?

Christ if that was my husband I’d have the proper ick. Remind him he’s a grown up now and sitting about in his pants like a toddler is ridiculous. He doesn’t need to copy his dad. He’s all grown up.

honeslty I’d have the right ick

It’s not the same though is it? Being in your own private home in your pants is very different from going outside or seeing people in them. As long as his bits are covered I don’t see being undressed at home as dysfunctional. I actually think it’s good for children to see their parents comfortable in their bodies. And being too insistent on modesty can teach kids shame. I remember being a teenager and going downstairs in a little nighty, that had gotten a bit short and my dad raised his voice and told me to go upstairs and put some clothes on. Which still makes me uncomfortable that he found it uncomfortable to see a bit too much leg.

I wouldn’t be comfortable having genitals out, as I can imagine at a certain age that would be weird and traumatic for kids, but seeing their dad in what is essentially a pair of shorts? No I don’t think that’s dysfunctional at all,

You have said their is nothing dysfunctional about bodies being unclothed so that means you would think it’s ok outside too

you have given one off examples which would be fine

OP says her husband always naked apart from skimpy pants at home - quite different to your examples

presumably you are comfortable if your husband went to a friends house and his wife was in bra and panties?

I find it really unattractive when DH is in his dressing gown after midday. It gives me the ick but I don’t know why! I feel the same when the in laws are lolling about in pjs and I’m dressed. It just feels lazy although I accept this is totally irrational. So I agree but also know IABU 🤣

It is lazy and smacks of a lack of productivity. That's why it gives you the ick.

HellsBells13 · 08/05/2026 18:00

He is very conveniently abdicating all help as you mentioned in your initial post. Smacks of being lazy. Wife can do everything like a hired hand..

One of our neighbours always has his top off when he answers the door. Little pants maybe isn’t a great look!

🤢

harriethoyle · 08/05/2026 17:51

Well that’s it isn’t it but it’s just social conditioning… there’s no real difference between joggers and a T-shirt and pjs but I find it teeth gnashing 🤣🙈

Yes it’s because we think it signals poor mental health and it’s contagious

I have so many stories from friends of their mums hoovering their rooms
when the were in bed off sick from school - we must carry on like the orchestra on the titanic 😂

JackandVictor · 08/05/2026 17:57

I only wear pjs indoors and then I take them off to go to bed, but between outside and bed my pjs are always on for the reasons you've mentioned. Perhaps if he had some super comfy PJ's that might work... Maybe... I wouldn't like DH to wander round in pants either but then we have teenagers who's friends are often here so it's never been an issue 😄

Bridesmaidorexfriend · 08/05/2026 17:57

Millymollymandy4 · 08/05/2026 17:48

So it’s ok when people come round?

because their is nothing dysfunctional about it

TightPants · 08/05/2026 17:57

Ugh. This reminds me of being a kid in the ‘70s. My friend’s dad used to sit watching TV in his orange and white Y-fronts.
My 8 year old eyes didn’t know where to look!

ForCosyLion · 08/05/2026 17:38

Squirrel?? Is that a typo?

Why do people so often write things on MN that I don't understand!

It’s a Friday Night Dinner reference, the dad in that often has his top off.

harriethoyle · 08/05/2026 17:51

Millymollymandy4 · 08/05/2026 17:48

Not really irrational is it

we are taught to be up and dressed 😂

Poetnojo · 08/05/2026 16:54

I've never heard of anyone doing that.
Sounds weird to me.
Dh will usually change into shorts and tshirt when he gets home though. He would never even leave the bedroom if he wasn't wearing some form of top and bottoms, would never even walk around top less at home either.

That's way weirder than just wearing y fronts 😂

Bristolandlazy · 08/05/2026 17:50

Good for him. He's at home. That's the one place you can wear what you want.

In our first house we overlooked a house where the man walked around all day in the nude and the woman and their child were fully clothed. It was odd as you'd think that if the house was warm enough for one of you to be in the buff it would be too warm for the others to be layered up
Often the blinds would be half down and with the position of the windows it was only his penis and bottom on show.... Not sure if that was intentional or not

Sounds very weird and a bit intentional
