AIBU to find my husband's constant undressing at home annoying?

My husband has asked me to post on here to guage opinions.
The minute he gets in the door he takes his top off, often- his trousers too and will just be wearing pants. He says it is more comfortable.

I'm starting to find it really annoying, once in a while if it's really hot it makes sense. But it is literally all summer and winter. It means he can't ever answer the door, just pop into the garden or grab something from the car. And to be honest, I just don't like it.

Apparently it is completely normal (his dad did it too) and he thinks I would be surprised because everyone does this in their own homes??

It's not really any different to topless in shorts - why is that horrible?

Are you the husband? You seem very defensive.

diddl · 08/05/2026 18:15

If he's stripping off because he's too hot, is he then sitting down all sweaty?

Oh no you’ve just added another dimension!! Of ick…

🤢

ClaredeBear · 08/05/2026 18:16

I’d be really pissed if it meant consuming more energy to keep him warm but aside from that, can he not wear lounge pants?

You have said their is nothing dysfunctional about bodies being unclothed so that means you would think it’s ok outside too

you have given one off examples which would be fine

OP says her husband always naked apart from skimpy pants at home - quite different to your examples

presumably you are comfortable if your husband went to a friends house and his wife was in bra and panties?

Edited

But that’s not what I said? So you’re answering points that I never said I agreed with.

As I explicitly said, going outside in your pants is not the same thing as being in the privacy of your own home in your pants. Again, I have also been clear that it’s not reasonable to have other people in your house and be just in your pants.

At home my nephews are walking around in their pants, and I think that’s normal. But when people turn up they will go and put on some clothes as they aren’t comfortable around other people in their pants. Because there’s a difference. I want to walk around naked in front of my DW, I don’t think that’s dysfunctional.

I can’t speak for how it would be around kids, but I don’t think children shouldn’t be taught that bodies are shameful, and that nudity is wrong. As I said, you shouldn’t go to far the other way and traumatise children by making them uncomfortable being completely naked past a certain age, but seeing their dad in a pair of pants is no different to what they’d see at a pool, so why is that dysfunctional?

Kokonimater · 08/05/2026 18:16

I think it’s a bit slobby
yes change into some thing loose and comfortable by all means. But just in pants.
yuk

lottiegarbanzo · 08/05/2026 18:16

Eww. Shorts at least (and a t-shirt) for basic decency, surely?

And how over-heated must your house be in winter, to make this comfortable?

I’m Scandinavian and although we don’t have an issue with nudity in general we are only really naked when it makes sense, such as going to/from the shower, in the sauna, in swimming pool showers etc. Nobody I know sits down to the family dinner not clothed.

Thank you!!!

Millymollymandy4 · 08/05/2026 18:15

I’m having funny images of him and his dad FaceTiming each other nude 😂😂

Snoken · 08/05/2026 18:15

Monty36 · 08/05/2026 18:09

He would get on well in Norway.
They do not see nudity in the home as anything but simply natural. And this isn’t even nudity.

It would annoy me. Because by doing that he's literally sending out a signal thats him done for the day and not to expect anything of him. He can't/wont answer the door, take the bins out,nip to the car. Its all on you. Tell him to put some shorts on or something. Its ridiculous

Yes it’s very single minded and selfish

Yes - a cotton singlet won’t make him any hotter

I don't want to make light of this, but it did make me think of Martin in Friday Night Dinner 😁

"Shit on it!"

Mmm my friends brother lives in Norway - never heard anyone walking around nude

your stretching the truth somewhat

Snorerephron · 08/05/2026 18:10

Our next door neighbour sometimes puts the bins out just wearing his skin tight pants!! It's TMI Grin

I have bought DH lots of shorts to wear to deal with the same issues @saamantha19881 but he's always forgetting to put them on. I have said it's not fair on our teens to just sit around dressed (or rather not dressed) like that

ForCosyLion · 08/05/2026 18:09

I mean, nothing but pants in the daytime doesn't exactly scream capable, competent provider and protector, does it? 🤣🤣🤣🤭

It's giving adult-toddler vibes. 🤢

Bridesmaidorexfriend · 08/05/2026 17:43

Why? What’s dysnfunctional about bodies?

Unclothed bodies in the daytime, unless ill, signals:

Laziness
A lack of productivity
Possible poor mental health
A lack of consideration for others in the household
A lack of intention of leaving the house again that day, even to get something from the car. So forget going out for a spontaneous walk or drink or dinner.
A lack of awareness that we are adults and adults are clothed in the daytime

Need I go on? Sitting about in your pants during the daytime is what toddlers do and it's dysfunctional for an adult to do it.

Would give me the major ick.

WiddlinDiddlin · 08/05/2026 18:06

My DP does this - we don't have the heating on higher or extra to accomodate it, he will put clothes on to go out, or answer the door, he is just more comfy this way and finds temps I find 'warm' to be 'way too hot' and as I cannot regulate my temperature properly (chronic health/disability) he just sheds clothing as and when necessary.

It WOULD piss me off if he were refusing to answer the door/go to the shops/do outdoor yard work etc.. but he's not. He just wants to be comfy in his own home and I think thats perfectly OK. He doesn't comment on what I wear or do not wear either!

Do you think he’s this blokes dad then? As he does it too, and I can’t imagine there is a third,

Millymollymandy4 · 08/05/2026 18:07

Safarisagoody · 08/05/2026 18:05

It is though isn’t it, it’s what toddlers do, he’s just missing the nappy. And he’s bleating that but my dada did it too. Complete ick from me. My legs would seal shut,

😂😂

You don't think there's a difference between walking around in a pair of underpants or in a pair of Bermuda style shorts?

Underpants more comfortable
