AIBU to feel unsettled by DH telling me about his soulmate dream?

Feeling a bit odd.

Came home this evening and getting dinner ready in the kitchen and Dh came into the kitchen with a weird look on his face and said he had a really weird dream last night. He started to say it, then kept looking hesitant and stopped saying it, so I said ‘Go on, what was it?’ (thinking please just get on with it, whilst putting food in the oven and rushing around.
He said that he dreamt that someone or something was saying they’d found him his soulmate and the person he’s connected to and that then this man a woman (I think) then started hitting him really hard with shoes and all sorts with really nasty faces
It was just a really odd thing to come and tell me…literally straight away, not after other conversations and then ‘Oh god yeah I had this awful dream last night’ and also talking about a soul mate? What am I, chopped liver?!
I said (a bit angrily) why was he dreaming about a soul mate and he stormed off saying it was a dream

Is this weird? Feels very weird!

I have odd (magnesium) dreams and I try to share enough of them with my DH but not too much. It’s a way of shelving them so I don’t carry them into my day. If he made a big deal of them I’d think he was being an unhelpful tosser.

I was going for a Cheezelzebub joke, but a fake vegan cheese demon is a whole other type of disturbing.

Cheezelzebub 😂

I don’t personally don’t believe that. I’ve had some very weird dreams and they have meant nothing and indicated nothing.

Thats fair enough.

Personally if I have a weird dream I can generally relate it to something that has been on my mind or something that has triggered it.

Tbh these days I very very rarely dream, or at least remember that I have dreamed, but I used to have very vivid dreams - particularly the recurring one where i'm falling down a steep incline from a path on the side of a mountain. I know that's related to my fear of heights but I like to find a cause for other dreams when I have them.

If you don't believe in the Bible then obviously you won't accept that.

Well no. Talking snakes and demons aren’t my thing. I believe a person’s brain can be filled with demonic thoughts though.

femfemlicious · 08/05/2026 10:01

It sounds like a spiritual attack. Please pray together 🙏🏿

Enough cheese and demons people.

Your reaction to this was really strange, like you think he’s had this dream on purpose or like he’s going to suddenly decide to gallivant off to find this soulmate due to this dream. He was probably hesitant to tell you because he was embarrassed to be frightened by a dream, I’ve been the same with my husband, really freaked out by a vivid dream but feel silly putting it into words because out loud, you can’t convey that unsettled, horrible feeling, and it doesn’t sound that scary!
I can’t understand why anger was your first emotion here? It’s strange. It’s a dream! I’ve dreamt allll sorts of weird WEIRD stuff and can assure you it isn’t the inner workings of my deepest desires!

Proof from the bible you say.

Yeah, if there were deeper meanings to dreams then a lot of us secretly believe that we failed on class in school and now have to go back and repeat the class or we never had graduated. Also we can't find the classroom that we need to get too.

I'm a Christian and demons are included in Christianity as part of our theology. So my proof comes from the Bible. Of course other potential suspects (like cheese!) should be ruled out before jumping to conclusions, but it's a real possibility that shouldn't be ignored.

Proof from the bible you say.

Well i would be put out by this because I believe that there is always a reason for our dreams. That they are triggered by something that has happened or something that we are thinking about when we are awake.

Well Jesus cast out demons, his disciples cast out demons, the practise of exorcism has remained throughout Church history. If Jesus lied about demons, frankly Christianity has a lot more problems than the existence or not of demons.

Atheists have no problem with this.

its perfectly possible to think that Jesus existed and had interesting and philosophical ideas about how to organise society - but that he was not a special spiritual person or in any way a ‘god’

A dream is a dream, the brain is a marvellous thing. Dreaming of demons doesn’t mean they exist. I’ve dreamt I can fly in the past.

I’m wondering if we’ve had covid recently maybe as i’ve also had a couple of really frightening dreams in the last couple of weeks-strange

Change the batteries in your carbon monoxide alarm or buy a new one

Ladyzfactor · 08/05/2026 09:44

Dreams are not logical or based in any suppressed desires. I literally had a dream that I had sex with the Pope once ( and disgustingly he was amazing). Trust me, I'm not secretly lusting after him (I'm gay as shit). I was really confused for the next day

It’s not an ‘opinion’ to think that the existence of a book in which something is regarded as real is not proof of its existence outside the pages of said book.

Aluna · 08/05/2026 09:42

Presumably OP is the “soulmate” hitting him with shoes and making faces.

By her reaction the dream seems to be on point. 😄

You're entitled to your opinion, mine differs. 🙂

Goldfsh · 08/05/2026 09:33

I'd be waking him up by bopping him with shoes

BauhausOfEliott · 08/05/2026 09:28

I don’t think you understand how dreams work.

MrsOni · 08/05/2026 09:24

Dreams don't mean anything. They are just random images thrown up by your brain as it sorts information into memory overnight. Most of the time you don't even remember them. They are not cosmic messages or any other woo bullshit like that.

It is, however, common to have dreams which are unsettling and DH clearly had been unsettled by this one, so to just dismiss it when he was trying to talk to you about it and perhaps get a bit of emotional support is a bit dickish.

GentleSheep · 08/05/2026 09:23

FungibleAssets · 08/05/2026 09:21

Respectfully, using the Bible as ‘proof’ of demons is like saying Elizabeth Bennet exists because there’s a book about her.

Butchyrestingface · 08/05/2026 09:20

Why is he dreaming that and why telling me?!

Because you told him to! You said he was hesitating and didn't want to upset you. You forced the issue.

What are you upset about anyway? That he's going to leave you for a soulmate who batters him with shoes?
