AIBU to feel unsettled by DH telling me about his soulmate dream?

Feeling a bit odd.

Came home this evening and getting dinner ready in the kitchen and Dh came into the kitchen with a weird look on his face and said he had a really weird dream last night. He started to say it, then kept looking hesitant and stopped saying it, so I said ‘Go on, what was it?’ (thinking please just get on with it, whilst putting food in the oven and rushing around.
He said that he dreamt that someone or something was saying they’d found him his soulmate and the person he’s connected to and that then this man a woman (I think) then started hitting him really hard with shoes and all sorts with really nasty faces
It was just a really odd thing to come and tell me…literally straight away, not after other conversations and then ‘Oh god yeah I had this awful dream last night’ and also talking about a soul mate? What am I, chopped liver?!
I said (a bit angrily) why was he dreaming about a soul mate and he stormed off saying it was a dream

Is this weird? Feels very weird!

But could we be ill from it if it was turned off some time ago?

If you have a boiler or a cooker they could be leaking. Get it checked out asap. Make sure you have plenty of ventilation.

Max Bygraves wasn’t nice? I didn’t get the memo. I hope it’s not anything gruesome. Is this going to spoil the memory of ‘ you need hands’ …. Eeek

No, nothing as bad as that. I read that he was considered by his fellow entertainers to be a bit too aggressive behind the scenes.
I also read despite being married for 70 years he was a serial philanderer who had 3 illegitimate children outside of his marriage.
You'd never have thought it from his public family persona 🙂

Maybe he was turned on by it rather than frightened and was trying to start a conversation

Eh?!

Ok, I posted because your reply to @Watchingthedaysgoby gave the impression that you're unaware of the dangers of carbon monoxide.
I hope you have a carbon monoxide detector installed and get the wood burner checked every year?

Correct me if I'm wrong OP but it sounds as though your initial interpretation of this dream was "it means he wants to be with someone else / thinks he would be better suited to being with someone else:..."?
I think the fact that he told you might actually be compliment - a sign of trust and security in the relationship. Surely if he felt he did want to be with someone else he would be less likely to tell you🤔
Personally I think that dreams are sometimes meaningful and sometimes not and only the dreamer can decide whether they are. Lots of things can cause very weird dreams including delayed sleep phase, alcohol and some meds. (IDK about carbon monoxide, as mentioned by a pp, but if you have a gas boiler you do need a carbon monoxide detector too.) I have them as part of a sleep disorder. They don't always represent our underlying desires -Freud was wrong on this, and lots else besides! Two other theories include mental rehearsal for frightening events and consolidation of memory - from personal observation this can be really trivial things, like something I've read or heard close to bedtime. Was he reading or watching something which included a soul mate? Perhaps it is becuase of stress. Perhaps the soul mate in the dream was you? No-one can know for sure, but what you do know for sure is that he's choosing to spend his waking life with you, he didn't choose his dream, and he's stressed/distressed about it and about work. While it's understandable you'd be upset and annoyed to hear about his possible other "soul mate" it also sounds like maybe listening to how he's feeling and trying to support him would be a more fruitful response.

We have a wood burner, but it hasn’t been on since Feb/March maybe?

Do you burn any type of fuel in your home- gas, wood, coal, oil? If you do then you should have a carbon monoxide detector installed and regularly check that it's working properly. Any fuel burning appliances should be serviced once a year by a person registered to do this sort of work.

My DP had a dream that he had gotten pregnant, had the baby and raised it to adulthood. When he woke up it really did him over and he said it was so realistic that he actually missed the baby / child. It took a few days for him to get over that.

Dreams don't necessarily mean anything but they can still be upsetting. Having a go at him because he had a dream that someone said they'd found him a soulmate is really weird, especially as he was unsettled by it. Id apologise personally.

MabelRoyds · 09/05/2026 16:48

I had a nice dream about Rhys Ifans once. Yes, very nice. Anyway, that’s not relevant, is it!

I once dreamed that I was shot by Richard Whiteley. So I can assure you, you’re wrong.

That's brilliantly random! 😀

steff13 · 09/05/2026 16:14

I had a dream last night that I went to my high school reunion with Neil Patrick Harris and his husband (whose name I believe to be David). Apparently, we had 1. gone to high school together and 2. were in a throuple.

None of us actually went to the same high school, and even if we had, they are several years older than I am so we would not have been there at the same time. And I don't think any of us would be into the whole throuple scenario. Dreams are mostly just nonsense.

Owly11 · 09/05/2026 16:13

Wtaf are you annoyed about? You do understand that dreams aren't literal? It could mean a million different things. The most telling bit of your op is that he knew you would be annoyed by it and was hesitant to tell you. Do you regularly get angry with him when he shares things with you?

Where can that come from though?

I'm 60 now, he always seemed old to me. I was only 30 when I dreamed about him so I was horrified at the thought 😅
I too thought he was a cosy, family entertainer who my gran loved, until I read what he was really like

Omg who gives a fuck about some weird dream. He's boring and overdramatic for telling you and you're wet and overdramatic for caring.

What a horrible person.

Also, rather alarmingly OP its occurred to me that you should also check for carbon monoxide- do you have a detector?

Where can that come from though?

When I was young I thought Max Bygraves was great.
It came as a total shock to me when I found out, not too long ago actually, what he was really like.

Yet another lesson in disillusionment when it comes to people in the public eye

Oh god, the dreams I tell my DH! Usually me having reluctant sex with awful people. It gives us both a laugh.

OneNewLeader · 09/05/2026 10:26

What sort of shoes?

Why couldn’t you have just listened and agreed it was an odd dream?

For those old enough to know who Max Bygraves is, I can categotically say that I had never thought about having an affair with him 🤣⁷

Well i would be put out by this because I believe that there is always a reason for our dreams. That they are triggered by something that has happened or something that we are thinking about when we are awake.

You seriously asked him why he was dreaming about his soul mate? Like he could really help it! Maybe he was dreaming about you!
I dreamt I slept with Max Bygraves once. No rhyme or reasoning over that one. My dh waa not all put out or jealous of it. Have a word with yourself!
