Well maybe we would be better with the Reform councillors who think Nigerians should be melted down and put in pot holes or the ones who think ethnic minorities should be shot or the one that battered his gf black and blue or the one who has been banned from every football ground in the UK. All elected yesterday. Plus one who said that a refugee got raped deserved it. It's all over twitter.

Another one has been removed from reform because he's a Holocaust denier.

Oh, Twitter, that temple of truth, honesty, and integrity.. 😁

Apparently, official policy says sex work involving consenting adults 'should be decriminalised' and restrictions and censorship of sexually explicit material "should be ended", with exceptions made for those protecting children.

God, they're complete idiots.

Hello. Hope you had a good day.

As I said previously, there is not so much we can do about the demand level from older patients.

We haven’t managed to eradicate cancer.

But there are clearly avoidable costs that we should be dealing with:

Type 2 diabetes - as you say this is a huge cost and needs to be addressed either education and support.
Alcohol related harm - ditto
We need a means of stopping the free flow of people into our country who are carrying infectious diseases
We need to ban first cousin marriage and have a wide programme of education and limitations on immigration bringing severely disabled people into the country. Australia refuses immigration visas to people with poor health and everyone seems to accept that without thinking they are evil.
We spend £millions on translators and treating people ineligible for the NHS but don’t charge them and many other areas of horrifying waste.

Each element may (or may not) be relatively small but all the waste adds up and prevents British citizens and taxpayers getting adequate care.

👏👏👏👏

To name a view

wealth tax
Defending the human rights act
Drug legalisation
Public ownership of water, energy and transport
replacing first past the post with PR

You want to legalise all drugs?

I do like the way they want to campaign to end violence towards women and girls, even though they think they can have a penis

And as the manifesto was written in 2024 it doesn't seem to have included Zack Polenski's wishes re pornography

The post listing costs by pp is interesting but on type 2 diabetes GLP-1 is probably the best way to reduce that.

Increasing alcohol duties would be a guaranteed election loser.

The left would criticise it as another attack on the ordinary honest working class and the right would criticise it as unnecessary nanny state interference and people should have the right to cause permanent health damage if they want to.

Exactly- it would need to be a cross party agreement - unlikely I think.

Interestingly alcohol duties raise £11 billion per year. The cost to the country of alcohol is £27 billion in lost productivity and healthcare.

Solution is to raise alcohol duties on supermarket sales so that prices are the same whether you drink in a pub or at home.

Sorry have been at work today. But average age of user of the NHS is 74.

TB is a red herring- easy ro diagnose, easy to treat ( nearly always as an outpatient) and with effective vaccination.

Things that cost the NHS a fortune are:
Type 2 diabetes
Cancer care
Frailty of old age
Alcohol related harm of various kinds

Infectious disease come a very long way down the list.

The near collapse of the NHS is due to the aging population not immigrants who generally speaking are young and healthy.

Do you have evidence for that as I’m seeing a rise in terrible diseases like TB and approx 80% of those are from immigrants. There is also a significant additional load in some areas from the increased rate of birth defects and severe disabilities caused by repeated guest cousin marriage - highly prevalent in immigrants from countries like Pakistan.

Similarly most immigrants want to work and pay taxes frequently much harder and in jobs which white British people can't or won't do

Well that’s a rather sweeping negative generalisation about people based on the colour of their skin. It sounds like the Daily Mail circa 20 years ago. Try reversing the colour of skin and see if you still think it sounds ok. Can you show what evidence you have for that?

There is, however, evidence of white (especially men) being discriminated against for recruitment into organisations like the NHS, Armed Forces etc (who knows how far it goes). The ‘Rooney Rule’ (automatic shortlisting for minorities) and using race as a tie breaker in the NHS for starters. So the state makes it harder for white people to get the jobs yet you blame them for not wanting to work.

So are not the main cause of the increased benefits bill

I didn’t say that immigration is the main cause of the vast benefits bill but the huge and continually increasing numbers around immigration are exacerbating it. Something has to change. Any government that tries to make it harder to claim disability benefits meets enormous resistance from the Left so immigration is something we should have control over.

I agree we have a housing shortage and high unemployment.

Cool. So bringing in more people that need housing and benefits is not helpful.

See - for this is creeping in. Birmingham have what 4 MP’s voted in on one issue Gaza.

Can you imagine any other country having MP’s talking about an issue outside of that country. We need to be very careful about what is happening here.

Yes, we should definitely be very concerned about that. These people are not necessarily there to represent the interests of all the local residents - and we should be enquiring further as to their feelings about Hamas and their general aims for promoting Islam and Islamic interests in their local area.

There are many areas where Islamic practices and requirements clash with Western society Some people in these areas have stated an aim to take increasing power overall and I see no reason not to take them seriously.

The Lebanese have been down a similar road and are warning us of the consequences for us doing the same. There is a reason why formerly peaceful Lebanon and Beirut have become synonymous with civil war and killing.

PropertyD · 08/05/2026 20:38

I am very uncomfortable about what is happening. One issue only. What about the local issues is those areas?

Jess Philips won by the skin of her teeth in Birmingham at the last election. She said it was the toughest she had ever fought. She had been followed home by men, threats made to her, etc. The Independent who came second on the Gaza issue refused to shake her hand. Because she was a women, because he lost or perhaps both. I know those areas around Birmingham. I better not say much more.

We do. Although, I cannot imagine they will be interested in any other countries, no matter what they are going through, only Gaza.

I'd prefer local councils and mayor's to focus on local issues. Obviously, we have no problems here to solve.

The new mayor for Lewisham had to mention Gaza and its 'genocide' in his manifesto.

Oh dear. Instead of improving things here and tackling real local issues, the focus is 'gaza'. 🙄

I’ve debated this point on previous threads and the answer from the left is that it’s reasonable to debate foreign policy issues in a general election. You might agree that the same could be argued for a mayoral election.

According to the BBC as of now Reform has the highest number of council seats in England:
949 in total with Lib Dems at 642, Labour at 613, Conservatives 526,
Green 300, Independents 109. Only 93 of 136 councils have completed their counts but if the pattern continues Reform comes out on top and can cause havoc even if they don't have complete control.😡
The Greens have won two mayoralties in London ... 😡

Edited

Those numbers are just for the councils that were up for election - only 136 out of 317 councils have elections this year. So no, Reform do not have the highest number of council seats in England.

No you've completely mischaracterised what I've suggested. I'm going to bow out now as this isn't the first time you've mischaracterised (purposefully or not) what I've said, and then argued with that, rather than what I actually said. Honestly I saw you were arguing in bad faith when you asked if I wanted the government to buy drugs from criminals as if it was some kind of gotcha, and ignored the part of the research that didn't support what you were saying, but I thought I'd give you the benefit of the doubt. At some point one has to stop arguing with people who only hear what they want to hear.

You said this: We need to make being a landlord less profitable and buy up the houses to use as social housing. This will both increase the housing available to those who need social homes, as well as increase rights for those who prefer to rent.

Can you explain how I have mischaracterised what you said? I am honestly just responding to what you said with my thoughts on how it could work (or not) - what did you mean that is different?

Honestly I saw you were arguing in bad faith when you asked if I wanted the government to buy drugs from criminals as if it was some kind of gotcha, and ignored the part of the research that didn't support what you were saying,

How is the Green Party ‘government’ going to acquire the class A’s they have promised to supply to those who want to give them a try? I went to the source (as I like to do) and they have promised to supply party drugs to people. I fail to see how the research you presented changes that.

I’m sorry if I have gravely misunderstood your point but I read your post quite carefully and fail to see where I have mischaracterised. If there is such a big misunderstanding surely you can just explain your point so I understand? Otherwise I don’t feel like this is a ‘me’ problem.
