The modern Green Party are deplorable. A far cry from what they used to be in the past.

I get the impression that the honourable original aims of the party are still evident in some quarters, but if the greens every get near any real power then these genuine people will be flushed from the party along with what is left of the original policies.

HermioneWeasley · 07/05/2026 19:04

I don’t hate Jews, I don’t think women can have a penis and I don’t think we should legalise crack so they’re probably not the party for me

I meant, was the specific quote in their policies, as you had put it in quotes

I'm not sure I understand the rest of your post. I mean I understand it, but no in relation to the question of whether you wouldn't vote for any trans-accepting party. Are you saying no and that's why?

The Scottish Greens voted en masse against the six words amendment of the Forensic Medical Examiners Services Bill which was intended to allow rape survivors the ability to request (not demand, merely request) a female medical examiner.

That's not 'trans accepting'. That's anti women.

And it's a big part of why many women won't vote for them.

PropertyD · 07/05/2026 16:56

Hold on. Who are you to tell anyone how to vote.

Quite.
I take it the pp lives in a very nice area unaffected by asylum hotels and HMO’s.

BluebellShmoobell · 07/05/2026 18:46

Legalising all drugs for a start! That will end well.

Do you know the reasons behind the policy though? It's about following what the research shows will have the most harm reduction.Focusing on rehabilitation rather than punitive justice is shown to reduce offending and reoffending rates. Decriminalising things like possession stops vulnerable people from being driven further towards criminal enterprises. Are these insane ideas?

There are currently lots of dangerous drugs which are legal and they are highly regulated. What do you think the policy will look like in reality?

ConcernedForWales · 07/05/2026 18:32

Ok. I was happy to genuinely discuss this with you, because we probably have some common ground somewhere. I can't be arsed with the insults, though.

You are quite right to not want to be insulted. You answered the questions and said that we have a largely very right wing media - which is factual not facile.

LondonSymphony · 07/05/2026 18:50

I don’t really get the Zach love it. He’s treated like the Messiah, the second coming, but he’s actually just as shit, if not shitter, than the rest of them.

glitterpaperchain · 07/05/2026 18:47

nicepotoftea · 07/05/2026 18:43

Yes, it is in their policies.

Self ID is in their manifesto and they strongly oppose the For Women Scotland Supreme Court decision.

"So you wouldn't vote for any trans-accepting party"

I think you might not have thought this through.

I believe that in a pluralistic society, people should be free to have many different beliefs, but women need rights regardless of their feelings about gender.

I know that my life is different to my mother's and my grandmother's and my great grand mother's life because of sex based rights that did not exist 50-100 years ago. Those rights can be taken away. Identifying as a trans man or as non-binary does not protect against the need for an abortion or contraception or female specific health care, or sex based discrimination.

For people saying the Greens are 'insane' and 'loonies' can I ask what basis there is for that in their policies?

Legalising all drugs for a start! That will end well.

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 07/05/2026 18:45

ForGreenHiker · 07/05/2026 15:54

By voting for the only party in the uk lead by a Jewish person. Okaaaay…

Yeah no one’s buying that angle.

nicepotoftea · 07/05/2026 18:43

glitterpaperchain · 07/05/2026 18:26

Interesting that's in quotes, is that in their policies?

So you wouldn't vote for any trans-accepting (not sure of terminology) party regardless of policy, as that makes them insane? Genuine question, sounds sarcastic

Waitwhat23 · 07/05/2026 18:42

What, Hypotits? God no, I hope they get a gubbing.

Scottish Greens even worse. They took the (unearned) power they were given through the Bute House agreement and were utterly incompetent.

ElBandito · 07/05/2026 18:42

Our area has had green councillors so when I voted today I considered what they did for us when they were in last time. Absolutely fuck all.

TeenagersAngst · 07/05/2026 18:42

BIossomtoes · 07/05/2026 18:39

I don't agree that the media is right wing.

😂

Ah, here comes Blossomtoes. Where've you been all day?

I don't agree that the media is right wing. I don't think that ZP is being smeared by a right wing press. If that's your starting point, there's probably not much to discuss.

Humdingerydoo · 07/05/2026 18:33

glitterpaperchain · 07/05/2026 18:20

On MN many people seem to think if you support Palestine you are an antisemite. And Greens support Palestine

It feels like a lot of people are condoning the antisemitism in the Green party by voting for them "because Palestine".

You aren't an antisemite for being a supporter of a two state solution. You are an antisemite if you agree with various antisemitic posts made by members of the Green party you voted for. You are an antisemite if you keep pretending antisemitism isn't an issue and that Jewish people deserve what's coming "because Palestine".

ConcernedForWales · 07/05/2026 18:32

TeenagersAngst · 07/05/2026 18:29

I think all parties are put under scrutiny for antisemitism. Reform and Tories have both been accused of antisemitism in the media.

I think your facile analysis of the media as 'right wing' is the problem.

Ok. I was happy to genuinely discuss this with you, because we probably have some common ground somewhere. I can't be arsed with the insults, though.

ConcernedForWales · 07/05/2026 18:28

ProudAmberTurtle · 07/05/2026 18:26

Correct!

Cross-dressing men have been around for a while.

Voting for a party that pretends that they're women has never been a good idea though.

You do know there are trans men too?

Humdingerydoo · 07/05/2026 18:27

ConcernedForWales · 07/05/2026 18:12

As Caroline Lucas said, there are, sadly, anti-semites in every party. But it seems only left wing parties get the heat for it.

Because the antisemites on the left have people who claim to be anti-racist defending them. It therefore obviously becomes more newsworthy.

ConcernedForWales · 07/05/2026 18:27

TeenagersAngst · 07/05/2026 18:25

Right. Yes, that's clearly why.

What is your view?

ProudAmberTurtle · 07/05/2026 18:26

ConcernedForWales · 07/05/2026 18:24

I don't, actually. It is impossible to agree with any party 100%.

But on the other hand, I don't have any issues with the existence of trans people. They have been around for a long time.

Correct!

Cross-dressing men have been around for a while.

Voting for a party that pretends that they're women has never been a good idea though.

glitterpaperchain · 07/05/2026 18:26

nicepotoftea · 07/05/2026 18:23

I know it has been normalised, but the whole 'a woman is just an idea in a man's head' thing is rather insane.

Interesting that's in quotes, is that in their policies?

TeenagersAngst · 07/05/2026 18:25

ConcernedForWales · 07/05/2026 18:18

I don't know, tbh. Because the media is largely very right wing and doesn't want to turn its attention to the anti-semitism in right wing parties?

Right. Yes, that's clearly why.
