Good on them for that stance

If they want Britain to be a Republic, the only constructive suggestion I can make is that they (and all antimonarchists) pack their bags and go live in one, Outer Mongolia should be pleasant this time of year !........😁

Some very good questions, about which we can only theorise, but there are some worrying facts.

He is Jewish but has allowed his party to fill up with up with some horrendously anti semitic people and has managed to pretzel himself into taking an anti Jewish position on the topic of Israel.

A worrying number of his Green candidates have made shockingly anti semitic public communications (plus one young chap that I heard about today who was convicted of attacking a teenage girl from behind with a claw hammer - he is now elected).

He is presiding over a party with seemingly irreconcilable priorities- the huge LGBTQ influence that is tearing it apart (and costing £hundreds of thousands in discrimination cases against them) and the Islamic side where the deputy leader is a staunch Muslim whose wife wears full niqab, he made approving noises after the October 7th massacre in Israel by Hamas and is visibly uncomfortable with the LGBTQ side (he was stood by stony faced at the celebrations of the trans identifying male who won a seat for the Greens).

ZP comes across like a not very bright opportunist whose politics is at Student Union level. He may or may not realise how the party is being utilised to gain power for the Islamists which is not good for British citizens and those who uphold Western values. He is a dangerous fool.

Jesus. I swear some people in Mumsnet are so blinkered about trans issues that they have lost the ability for critical thinking. “He said woman can have a penis therefore he hates women!”

As a previous poster said, I believe Zack to be an ardent feminist and I trust him to stick up for women’s rights more than any other party.

If you say a woman can have a penis you truly hate women.

Palestinians have been dying for years. Very publicly. So if anyone wants to come at me with the you go and start your own thread - on you go. What has happened in Palestine has been genocide. You might want to close your eyes to it. But I won't. Particularly as I have Palestinian friends who were asylum seekers.

I've already been called a racist and an anti semite on here by someone on another thread who was laughing at suicide. Oh no. Im not going to line up with putting the boot into the Greens just because it's fashionable and we have actual racists in positions of power now

It's staggering what people believe and repeat. And I'm no fan of Polanski

Whatever is happening in any other country has nothing whatsoever to do with local elections in the UK. I fail to see why it has to be mentioned in the manifesto.

What does the fate of the Palestinians have to do with local elections in the UK?

Oh and there's more. There's the ones that said Pakistani people should be shot. The one that battered his gf. Six have been suspended in the last 24 hours

Oh god. I’m so glad they’ve been suspended, but how did they ever get to stand as candidates?? The vetting processes must be useless - or maybe there aren’t any?

JollyDenimSeal · 10/05/2026 21:13

I’m not sure why you think that the suspension of a candidate for a different party is anything to do with Zack p?

He allowed a Green candidate to continue campaigning ever after she was arrested for making anti semitic posts. Then there are all the other Green candidates:elected councillors who have among them criminal convictions for serious violence (attacking teenage girl from behind with a claw hammer) or environmental damage or just arrests for ‘plain old’ anti semitism. Suggesting that Israel was burning babies or harvesting Palestinian organs or faking the Golders Green arson attack. I could go on if that’s where you want to take this but it shouldn’t be a race to the bottom.

Zack Polanski is leading a party with serious issues.

This thread is about the Greens. Feel free to start your own about Reform.

No I won't. I'm just pointing out that Reform are awful..... But the Greens. And I'm not a Green member

I can’t find anything online about the claw hammer attack?

Sorry. I am very innocent about politics. Can someone tell me what Zack polanski does for a living. I've only heard about boobs and the red cross. What did he do after that? How did he get to be leader of the greens if he isn't an MP? Why didn't they choose someone who was an MP? Why did they ditch their saving the planet credentials and turn to hating the Jews, people who work for a living and many others?

The very wealthy won’t be here. They are highly mobile.

He doesn’t seem to like Jewish people very much based on his comments.

Does he even practise or use it as a reason as to why you cannot question him when he says something odd.

He's a member of the London Assembly. You do know hes Jewish? Not sure whu you are saying they hate working people. They've proposed a tax on the very wealthy.

I'm in Scotland, and I voted Reform in the General Election here on the same day. They didn't get in locally, but they won 17 seats at Holyrood.

loislovesstewie · 10/05/2026 11:39

They will probably be writing to the Israeli government next telling them Lewisham is going to boycott Israeli goods!

To be fair, I understand that the Greens have thrown themselves into a local campaign about redeveloping Lewisham town centre and the lack of social/affordable housing. It's also true that Lewisham has not as I understand it made a good job of managing their remaining social housing. I've also been concerned for a long time that having a one-party council is not good for democracy. I can't help feeling we've jumped out of the frying pan into the fire, though.

I just heard the Times interview he talked about Gaza for a large part of it.

40 out of 54 councillors in Lewisham are now Green, so they will be running the council under the Green Mayor. Lewisham has been solidly Labour for at least 50 years until yesterday. The Mayor was interviewed on Times Radio. The entire three minute clip is about his views on Gaza. He left the Labour party last year and switched to the Greens because he was disgusted by Labour's stance on this issue. He wants to twin Lewisham with a town in Palestine and he wants to get the pension funds reviewed to make sure they're not invested in anything supporting genocide, which I suppose means no Israeli companies, as I'd be surprised if they're investing in arms companies.

I have lived in Lewisham for over 40 years and I want my council to focus on local issues, not Gaza. I feel much as I used to do when I belonged to a union and half the candidates for election started their statements talked about the importance of boycotting Israel and supporting the Palestinian people. This was in the 2010s, so long before the current situation. I wanted my union to concentrate on negotiating better salaries, pensions and working conditions, not international issues.

(I'm aware that Times Radio may have interviewed Liam Shrivastava for a lot longer than three minutes and chosen to feature just the Gaza bit, but that still means he spent three minutes talking about Gaza when he's just been elected as Mayor of a London borough.)

This is concerning. We had Green canvassers here when no other party bothered. They seemed ok although I didn’t vote for them. They focussed more on local issues, as they should.

I swing between two things on Greens, and now back to concerned.

“We would like to explore twinning with a Palestinian town.” The new Green mayor of Lewisham Liam Shrivastava tells #TimesRadio he is “very keen” to show solidarity with the people of Palestine.
