I'd be careful with sending passive-aggressive reactions, MNHQ don't like it.

Edit: They don't like it when posters bully other posters either.

There is, of course, a real risk to me and mine of harm by Muslim extremism . A sizeable risk given the number of attacks in recent years.

This is your 'real risk' of being a victim of harm by a Muslim extremist in the UK 0.000009%. This is your risk of dying by falling down the stairs 0.0015%. This is your risk of dying in a car accident 0.003%. This is your risk of being killed by a male relative 0.0003%. Unless you live in extreme fear of the 'sizeable' risks of all of this and more that is far more likely to kill you then I think you might need to look at where this fear of Muslims that you have is coming from.

Oh, that’s interesting- do you have current figures on how many terrorists we currently have in the country?

We know that some have come in on small boats (some have been caught, there are likely more - I mean they’d be silly not to) and some are being radicalised here in mosques and online but I’m not sure even MI5 have good enough numbers to give a statistical risk like that.

Obviously there is something going on as MI5 gave raised our threat level to Severe and we have had several terrorist attacks in recent years.

I’m glad you are so sanguine about the risk levels, maybe you don’t have daughters that like to go to concerts like Taylor Swift or Ariana Grande? Or Christmas markets (a favourite target for Islamist attacks across Europe) and I’m assuming you are not Jewish.

Why are you so happy to accept that we have allowed people to come or settle here that viscerally hate us and our way of life so much so that they want to cause maximum death and destruction? Why is that ok in your mind?

Don’t you worry about me, I’m all good. And I wasn’t seeking support, I was asking you to explain your comments on Islamophobia…which you still haven’t done.

We are a lot more accommodating and tolerant about the hijab than other European countries. Eg France where you are not allowed to wear it in schools.

Yes, and it has sadly already contributed to the death of one little girl - Sara Sharif. Even more sadly, lots of people are so intent on signalling their extreme virtue (or not offending Muslims) that they won’t hear of hijabs being banned (even in primary schools) and from one recent MN thread, are happy to enforce hijab wearing in Muslim girls even as non Muslims. (A thread where OPs son asked his friend who had come over if he could see her hair and OP , instead of having a word with the son for asking an inappropriate question, firmly told the girl not to uncover her hair and then came here to tell us).

In a normal world, if something had already been used to aid and abet abuse of a child and there was a risk of it being used by others, we’d be having a conversation about how to prevent that but we’re not.

I think Kemi is absolutely right not to speak to women with their faces covered. I struggle with speaking to someone with sunglasses on - a full face covering is disrespectful to the person you want help from.

Where there are scenarios that women are being forced to wear a face covering by others from their family or community, it just strengthens the argument for a full ban here. Like they do in some Muslim countries.

itsnotallaboutyouyousee · 08/05/2026 13:00

Interesting results so far today, 54 Councils in. In other news, I see Wales is no longer Labour.

@Bushmillsbabe I said on a thread the other day that I think the worst thing is more division. I feel a bit alone as I’m a mix of centre.

I am quite shocked the Tories lost so many seats tbh (labour less so). Have the seats the Tories lost also gone to Reform?

not true

So far -
con have lost 171 seats and 1 council
lab have lost 259 seats and 8 councils

We won’t know until all the results are in. The Tory losses were also predicted, it will take them more than one electoral cycle to recover.

The issue is Reform has taken the wider right end of the conservative vote. Which puts them in a difficult position - do they go more right to try and reclaim this, but potentially lose the centre right.

It's the same with labour, they have lost the far left to the Greens.

I really like her. I’ll vote concernatibe as long as she is leader. She’s principled and intelligent. She reminds me of the sort of politicians we used to have until David Cameron marked the start of a long decline in the quality of politicians.

TBF thats partly our fault as an electorate. Being an MP is a thankless job, not well paid, and subject to abuse. No wonder people with genuine talent leave and What we have remaining are increasingly ideologues. - see Reform and the Greens ( even more so), the independent Gaza MPs as well as a sizeable faction of the Labour Party.

It's not so bad I dont think. The salary doesn't look amazing on paper but gets doubled in expenses.

A labour MP I know through our children, has a full time nanny, a 2nd home, very smart cars, fully paid through both maternity leaves, lots of expensive holidays, oldest moving to private school in September. Her other half is in a fairly standard job so it's definitely her salary keeping them afloat.

She isn't particularly smart, so I don't think she would earn more than she currently does as an MP if she worked in the private sector.

Wibble128 · 08/05/2026 09:28

I believe a core problem for the UK is the politicisation of the Civil Servce (CS). The work of those who adopted the approach of the long march through the institutions as a method of weakening the UK is nearly done.

Regardless of her and indeed her parties stance or statements and indeed those of Reform etc, any policy that does not reflect the aims of the Left will be stopped by the Civil Service. The removal of political neutrality from the CS started in the Universities where the current crop of CS influencers from were trained, has now enabled a blocking of any policy that does not help destory the British way of life. This is reflected in other bodies such as the NHS.
The CS and other public bodies need a good clean out and reminding they are Public Servants.

Bushmillsbabe · 08/05/2026 09:23

The results of the local elections are really concerning re Reform

I hope either Starmer makes a dramatic change and fast to regain confidence, it will need to be change people can see and feel personally, rather than just talk and promises, as many people feel really let down. Or that Kemi gains significant ground.

I think most can agree that either of these would be better than Reform or Greens who have no experience in running the country and are at the more extreme ends of political scale. If they do get in, it's Starmer and Co to blame.

Maybe the best scenario we can realistically hope for is no overall majority and a labour conservative coalition, to hopefully acheive a centre balance. Although this may lead to a load of arguing and nothing getting done at all.

The results aren’t out yet. There are still 94 councils to declare as well as Wales and Scotland. It’s too soon to start crowing.

If you are a fan girl of "Kemi" why are you waving your hands around like a twat to attract her attention on here?

Shes all over twitter and more likely to see you on there.

The tories will be a fringe party by the end of today. Love that for you.

This sounds like a Labour voter seeing the results today. Insults and anger won’t get them far tbf.
