Why is no one talking about Farage's £5 million gift/bribe?

The right wing press had kittens about Starmer receiving some free glasses, yet are shtum about Farage receiving £5 million in the twelve months prior to him becoming an MP. No one gives someone £5 million pounds. Farage is bought and paid for by a shifty, Thailand based billionaire. Why don't voters and the media care?

Jenrick couldn't even get his story straight.

From the BBC article previously linked ( https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy0424end7vo ):
Speaking to the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg [...] Jenrick said: "[Cottrell] did give support to Nigel before he was a Member of Parliament, he hasn't done so since he became a Member of Parliament.

But also:
When he became an MP [in July 2024], Farage registered a £9,253 trip to Belgium in April 2024 donated by Cottrell, and later added a £15,276 donation from Cottrell for a US domestic flight he provided in December 2024.

So the usual Reform clown show.

What is amazing is how Reform supporters will accuse anyone who raises it on X or newspaper article comment forums of being biased against them. ANY political figure with these sort of financial interests has questions to ask. There are very clear rules about them. The fact that he thought he could hide the information and not declare the donations is evidence of pure arrogance and malign spirit.

I for one hope he is booted out and we have a sensible, moderate Conservative government that will cut welfare and understand the importance of tax incentives to economic growth. Labour are awful and Farage is a conman

There was a post on my community FB page asking how to contact the newly minted Reform councillors.

If there are any Reform supporters, they were conspicuous by their absence. But there were a lot of local people calling them grifters and noting that at least the previous councillors held surgeries and were visible.

I don't think Nigel understands cr*pto. It's not as anonymous as people may believe.

It is entirely possible (in fact I would be assuming it as fact) that a lot of cr*pto exchanges have been compromised for a long time.

He’s so corrupt it’s untrue. Went to the Bank of England Governor to pressure him on behalf of billionaire crypto tech bros. ‘Man of the people’ my backside.

As you said, he wants a free for all. He also pressed the BoE to not involve itself in crypto currency, as it would be in direct competition with his chum.

The chum who paid the vast majority of Reform's funding, but who wants nothing in return...

And today, it turns out that he accepted security and other emolluments from a convicted fraudster, as well as staying in his house.

PerkingFaintly · 05/07/2026 13:01

Yes! Farage is all outraged that... the £5 million was found out! Because he'd maintained such secrecy that only four people knew about it.Hmm

So I'm utterly unsurprised by today's news.

It's always seemed very unlikely that the one instance where a secret donation was unearthed through hours of diligent journalism was also the only one instance a secret donation was made.

I fully expect this to be the tip of a substantial iceberg.

BeardySchnauzer · 05/07/2026 12:46

Don’t we all have a friend with a townhouse in central London to stay with 🤷‍♀️

I still can’t get over him trying to blame a Russian sting for leaking the £5m because he had wanted to keep it secret

ExtraOnions · 05/07/2026 12:39

“man of the people”

PerkingFaintly · 05/07/2026 12:39

Yep. This one's George Cottrell, a convicted criminal involved with gambling and c-money. Undeclared freebies included Farage staying in Cottrell's rented townhouse near Buckingham Palace.

There's no explanation as to why Farage would need to do this: apparently it's now perfectly normal to stay at friends' houses when convenient.

It is, of course; the media just pretend it isn't when the Starmers stay at a friend's place and rightly declare it. And whereas the Starmers' host was a member of the House of Lords with his own voice and vote in parliament, Cottrell does actually need Farage as his parliamentary catspaw.

The Sunday Times says the Reform UK leader failed to register the support supplied by a man who had been convicted of fraud in the US.

Well can’t say I’m shocked. Looks like the coating has come off mr Teflon

TopPocketFind · 05/07/2026 12:31

Farage was with him when he got arrested

Cottrell calls Farage 'daddy' and Farage describes hin 'as a son'

Plenty of Russia links as well.

The Sunday Times is running a story on how Farage failed to declare staff, security and housing gifted to him by a convicted fraudster and crapto gambler who was charged for his role in a “dark web” money laundering plot

George Cottrell does seem very dodgy indeed but that won’t bother Farage who has been associated with him for years

In this old article Farage describes him as an “unpaid volunteer”. Since then he’s stayed in Cottrell’s London townhouse near Buckingham Palace

Interesting the press are turning. I wonder if they’ve realised after the by election that reform aren’t going to make it as a party. Labour aren’t going to improve so perhaps they are going to turn back to the conservatives for the next election

Questions are being asked about Harborne's Russia links according to the Times.

No shit.

Farage just can't shake off these Russia links.

They are also reporting that Farage is facing scrutiny over his 5 mortgage free houses

He was also being paid £270,000 for 12 hours’ work promoting a gold bullion company, that is more hours than he has spent voting in the Commons.

And in Clacton.

SerendipityJane · 27/06/2026 14:52

Whatever Farage has spent the last 7 weeks doing, it clearly seems to have failed, as his media proof sheen does appear to have dulled a bit.

At least he can't spew too much hatred when he's having to come up with a lie a day (now there is an idea for a political cartoon. The Farage "Lie-a-day" calendar).

Actually the Companies House entries for Reform are very interesting. It appears under two different company numbers.

As you can see, Farage is/was a director of both.

He registered "Reform 2025 Ltd" in Feb 2025 while still a director of "Reform UK Party Limited". Then on 16 May 2025 he filed for changes of company name for both companies, switching their names over.

So he continues to be a director of a company called "Reform UK Party Limited" – continuity for his customers. But it's a different limited company from the previous "Reform UK Party Limited".

Totally normal way to do business, I'm sure!Grin

Ohhh.

Just watched a very ranty piece by James O'Brien (not a Farage-fanGrin) pointing out that at the date in 2024 that Farage claims he “wasn’t in politics”, the actual majority owner of the political party Reform UK Party Limited was... Nigel Paul Farage.

Dear me. Nigel trying to pull the wool over our eyes again?

Hoping we'd forgotten?

To be fair, it does look Farage's barrage of boldfaced lying was nearly successful: O'Brien seems to be the first commentator to have picked up on this.

James O'Brien piece:

Farage quoted in this article:

Nigel Farage: I can spend £5m gift on Ferraris or betting on horses if I want

BIossomtoes · 25/06/2026 16:13

The questions about the £5million aren’t going to stop. Even his mate, Julia Hartley Brewer asked him about it. If he ever turns up in the Commons again the stick he gets will be relentless.

Whatafustercluck · 25/06/2026 15:42

Well, according to Farage 'nobody cares' and it's irrelevant how he spent it - in the one breath he says it's for security (poor lamb) and in another he says 'but it wouldn't matter if i chose to spend it on cars'. Hedging his bets there, then. And I agree that despite pockets of coverage, it's nowhere near the samw kind of wall to wall coverage given to the Labour donations scandal. Farage is Teflon. He's clearly got friends in very high places. Well, Moscow af least.
