Why is no one talking about Farage's £5 million gift/bribe?

The right wing press had kittens about Starmer receiving some free glasses, yet are shtum about Farage receiving £5 million in the twelve months prior to him becoming an MP. No one gives someone £5 million pounds. Farage is bought and paid for by a shifty, Thailand based billionaire. Why don't voters and the media care?

Exclusive: Nigel Farage was given undisclosed £5m by crypto billionaire in 2024

Reform leader changed his mind about standing as MP after gift from Thai-based crypto tycoon Christopher Harborne

I don’t expect it to be reported on in depth in some areas of the media but I do in others

even LBC Nick Ferrari has been questioning him about it. As long as journalists keep doing this and they are not letting it go the longer the story shall hang around

and Farage is rattled by this I have not seen him look so irritated the hapoy chap mates with everyone down the pub facade is falling away

he has no interest in being PM he will resign or step aside to let someone else lead and that will be the end of Reform as a threat to our democracy

Because as you said, he received that money before he was even an MP. So no obligation on him to declare it. And there was no guarantee he ever would become an MP.

There are rules for a reason.
The rule in this case is that any benefits such as gifts received in the 12 months before election must be registered. He did become an MP, and didn’t declare the gift. That’s why it’s being investigated.

@ladypenelopepitstop Don't worry about the Tory scandals, we all know them.

But do tell what you think about these donations that Farage failed to declare.

Still less scandals than Farage

This government haven't been around as long - give them time !

Will you do one for the Tories as well?

I will if I can find one !

but meanwhile -

And the Tories?

If you are going to do a whatabout, don't leave them out.

What do you think of Farage's £5m?

PerkingFaintly · 05/07/2026 23:48

Hi, @ladypenelopepitstop.

So what do you think of Farage failing to declare more than £5 million donations and gifts in kind?

And do you find it more concerning that they're from people living outside the UK, or are you no more concerned than if the donors lived in the UK?

Where exactly are you looking/listening? It was on BBC all day yesterday, further discussion today, I'm sure it was also on Itv news yesterday, though it could have been Channel 4. I've been aware of it for a long time and this current discussion is actually a re-emergence. His story has "evolved" over this time.

I posted that two months ago. Please look at the date. The story has definitely been gaining traction in the past month or so!

Edit - this isn't a new thread. It keeps being revived.

The HOPE not hate link has some details of the case - sadly lacking in details regarding blackmail and extortion.

You think there is no issue with a convicted criminal funding Farage

Apparently we let convicted criminals become MPs.

Clavinova · 05/07/2026 22:54

BIossomtoes · 05/07/2026 22:26

So the crime was committed in 2013.

I don't know - did she tells further lies to her employer in 2014? In any case, we mostly disagreed about the date of her conviction - you said her conviction was 2013.

I didn't spot any snippets regarding your claim that Cottrell was guilty of extortion or blackmail.

Nigel Farage arrives at the Leave.EU campaign's referendum party in 2016. To his far-right is George Cottrell wearing a light blue shirt and navy tie.

The 32-year-old reported crypto entrepreneur, once convicted of fraud in the US, is a long-time Farage ally.

What nonsense. The Times has covered this many times since it happened.
Today Sunday Times it is front page and a photo of George who has provided security.
Inside there is another pic of The £5 million donor and George with Farage at a restaurant.
What else do you want.

Yes, indeed, the coverage is slowly growing.

As for MN... this thread started two months ago and has reached the grand total of 170-odd posts.

Farage's funky finances seem to be something a lot of posters just don't want to talk about.

Really very different from the shouty threads rammed with brand new usernames which reach 1000 posts within the day.

Agree 100% - as do a large number of folk where I live and work. Mostly professionals. It's astonishing how presumptuous some people are, about the intelligence and demographic of many people supporting Reform. Uncontrolled immigration is the #1 issue, along with the economy.

Roads and the economy/cost of living are most concerning for all voters of major parties, except Reform UK

Asked to pick up to three ‘most important’ issues in their local area, roads, including potholes, parking, and congestion (37%), as well as the economy/cost of living (35%), are most likely to top the public’s lists.

Following in third place are NHS GP and hospital services/facilities, at 29%.

I don’t care what bribes he has if he reduces immigration or is a big enough threat that the present gov sorts immigration - cos that’s what Labour need to do

It was a work phone and would have had controls on it by her employer IT. What benefit would there be to falsely reporting it as stolen 🤷‍♀️

Even if you aren’t convinced, you can’t compare that to multi million dollar money laundering.

So she’s stupid as well as dishonest

but irrelevant to the thread - George cottrell was barely out of his teens when he started funding farage and making large sums of money. And now farage is claiming it’s all an establishment stitch up. He’s lost it.

BIossomtoes · 05/07/2026 22:26

Clavinova · 05/07/2026 22:24

I'm not being contrarian. The police called Louise Haigh in for questioning after she switched on the original work phone, which had a tracker. She said this was 'some time' after she had reported the original phone stolen - this could easily have been some months later, therefore 2014.

So the crime was committed in 2013.

Why is no one talking about Farage's £5 million gift/bribe?

You do know that it’s often months before a case comes to court? Of course you do, you’re just being contrarian for the sake of it as usual.
