What happened to MLM's?

What happened to them?

AIBU to miss them? The boss babe quotes, the photos of the white mercs, the CEO of my own life job titles?

Where have they gone, and have they been replaced by anything?

Did anybody ever read the poonique blog?

An old school pal is a “travel business owner”. Her posts are so tedious, and also very judgy, all about how as she’s such an amazing mother she couldn’t possibly work 9-5 and be away from her kids so she’s bossing it on her own instead 🙄🙄

hotchocinsummer · 06/05/2026 13:38

I know an “independent travel consultant”
who absolutely exploded when I told her I’d just booked a holiday myself after she quoted a few hundred pounds more expensive.
I tried to explain that I could just book it myself for £xx
she responded that I wouldn’t be getting “her experience of stress free planning”
hmm, I literally sat down with a cuppa, my phone and booked it.

Notmeagain12 · 06/05/2026 13:38

Travel consultants
utility warehouse- seeing this a lot.

also I suspect estate agents? I’m seeing a lot of boards going up with American style pictures of the estate agent alongside their name.

ERthree · 06/05/2026 13:37

Ok i am old, what is a MLM ?

itswindyoutside · 06/05/2026 13:34

Ha! I did engage with a travel consultation recently who claimed she could book somewhere to meet our very specific needs. Compared with Airbnb or Booking.com, it was a rubbish process - she emailed a badly configured PDF, no pictures of the actual apartment and no verifiable reviews. I tried to drag information out of her with limited success. Have booked via Airbnb.

I’m on a regional advice group for travel ideas (within the country and abroad).whenever someone posts, ‘has anyone been to Venice this time or year, how are the crowds? etc a gaggle of ‘travel consultants’ pile on saying ‘my client just went there, PM me for a great hotel recommendation’ etc etc. not sure how they make money when traditional travel agents bar Trailfinders and specialists have more or less gone out of business.

FloralDeerPattern · 06/05/2026 13:32

I think they are all trying to sell on tiktok shop these days.

Kalimeras · 06/05/2026 13:31

Yep it’s utility warehouse and travel now! I think Scentsy is still around as well - I like watching anti mlm content on YouTube when I need a bit of background noise and they definitely seem to have died a bit of a death in the uk at least which is a good thing

sweeneytoddsrazor · 06/05/2026 13:30

I just seem to be bombarded with ads for tai chi walking

TwilightSkies · 06/05/2026 13:30

The Travel Consultant one is kicking off where I am (N.I)

Oh they are still verry much around, just not as obvious as ugly leggings etc.
Travel consultant, life/business coach (where coaching is convincing others they can also become a coach after buying a course), digital products/marketing, (DM me FREEDOM for personalised advice!) , join my inner circle to make millions..

Oh I love the life coaches, who are on the 4th kid by 4th Father.

Lots of utility warehouse reps on my local social media.

ThatCyanCat · 06/05/2026 13:27

I think they're influencers now.

Wasn’t Arbonne the ultimate one?

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 06/05/2026 13:20

A woman I worked with is a travel consultant, and posts a lot about “ditching the 9-5”, while continuing to work a standard 9-5.

It is mad isnt it.

And actually, I see having a 'boring' stable 9-5 as a bit of a blessing tbh !

Happyharper · 06/05/2026 13:20

Maybe social media consultants too?

m1ghtl1ke · 06/05/2026 13:19

I’ve seen the travel agent one, and the utility warehouse. Tropic is still doing the rounds as well (although lots like to claim that’s not an mlm!).

VividDeer · 06/05/2026 13:17

There is a lady at my gym who is a travel consultant. Also constantly filming herself for social media.

SuperSange · 06/05/2026 13:16

I’ve never understood how the travel
ones work.

HelloSunshine11 · 06/05/2026 13:16

Either travel consultants, or utility warehouse, where the strong businesswoman building a future rhetoric is still very firmly in use...

KevinsSignatureShortdeads · 06/05/2026 13:15

They’ve morphed into independent travel consultants where I am.

SusanChurchouse · 06/05/2026 13:15

Haha! I thought I wasn’t coming across them because I don’t have Facebook, and because my children are now older: I saw a lot of mums of young kids getting sucked in.

I wonder if they’ve been replaced with wannabe influencer courses. I do see “DM me DREAMS” for more info on posts.
