AIBU to think this Green Party response raises antisemitism concerns?

Reported today that Rachel Millward, the Green Party co-deputy leader, has shared a conspiracy theory about the Golders Green attack in which two Jewish men were stabbed.

It emerged the Muslim Greens, a group of party activists, chatted on a private WhatsApp group over the weekend about launching a campaign to highlight the alleged failure to report Ishmael Hussein, the third victim of the April 29 stabbings. There is no suggestion that this idea has the backing of Mr Hussein.

The private group chat, which included Mothin Ali, the Green Party’s other co-deputy leader, suggested the “racist double standard” in the Government’s handling of the attack also needed to be challenged.

The Golders Green stabbings are the latest in a spate of attacks on the British Jewish community. Last week, Essa Suleiman was charged with the attempted murder of Moshi Shine, 76, and 34-year-old Shloime Rand.

Media outlets reported that he was also charged with the attempted murder of Mr Hussein in Southwark, south London, earlier on the morning of April 29

Ms Millward shared a post from the NewsCord account that claimed Mr Hussein had been “erased from headlines to suit a weaponised, desperate narrative”.
The Greens’ deputy leader commented: “How can this be? Three attempted murders and only two reported?”

NewsCord is an AI-generated news aggregator and campaigning platform set up after the October 7 attacks to challenge the “Western media” and how it was “justifying and manufacturing consent for Israel’s war”.

Nobody is implying either of those things.

I’ll raise another point for you then - there was a former synagogue that was attacked. Former being the key word here - it had been disused since 2020 and there have been attempts from a Muslim organisation to purchase it.

This is being reported as a hate crime - why? Is it not more likely that this is just mindless vandalism?

Doubtful that it was 'mindless vandalism' when currently attacks on Jewish premises in London are rife. So yes, it is correct to report it as a hate crime.

I’m no fan of the Greens but they’re not wrong here.

How are the Greens 'not wrong here'?

The cartoon is not antisemitic in my opinion as the nose is not out of proportion to his actual nose. You would really need to post a copy of the cartoon if you want a general consensus of what people on this thread feel about it, I can only give my opinion on it.

Just checked out the .Times cartoon - it's not an anti semitic portrayal at all. In fact more prominence is given to Zack's teeth than his nose.

wecangoupupup · 06/05/2026 07:12

He’s Jewish.

did you have anything to say when an anti semitic caricature was published?

In name only. A case of 'I'm Jewish so of course I can't be antisemitic.'

So if the guy in Finsbury attacked a white Brit in argument before travelling to drive into muslims near mosque, it would also not be racially motivated terrorism?
Imagine a man attacking women at women's rally, it wouldn't be misogynistic attack if he attacked a friend before in other part of town then?
So essentially people just need to attack someone else and voila, savong themselves from racially motivated terror offence. Ok.

The fact that people cannot differentiate between the two different crimes happening on same day is bit worrying even though it was explained everywhere over and over.

I don’t think that’s the point being made.
It’s more that the location of a crime doesn’t immediately render it a racial or hate crime.
A burglary in Golders Green isn’t automatically an attack against Jewish people, for example.
The criminal’s intent is key. I don’t think we’ve heard about motive yet, but this knife wielding madman certainly appears to have targeted Jews.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 06/05/2026 08:50

This is about the Green Party response, not logistics of the attacker.

CheeseyOnionPie · 06/05/2026 06:36

I didn’t see or hear anything reported about the first man who was stabbed, only the two Jewish men.

All should have been reported on equally.

They were all reported extensively. The first attack was on a Muslim man who the attacker knew personally and who tried to stop the attacker from going out to harm anybody else.

Exactly, put like that shows the ridiculousness of the argument.

Another example is school shooters in the US. If an attacker kills a family member before going to a school & shooting lots of children, does that mean the media wouldn’t put most emphasis on it being a school shooting attack?

How many more of these threads are there going to be?

You don't have to read them, or comment. It's not compulsory to do so.

Did you even read the article? There have been a spate of arson attacks on Jewish sites recently and it was vandalised last year with antisemitic slogans to of course they’re investigating the possibility that it was motivated by antisemitism. Or do you think the fact that is used to be a synagogue is a coincidence?

HRTQueen · 06/05/2026 08:26

wecangoupupup · 06/05/2026 08:10

But he doesn’t. You just don’t like what he’s saying.

Yes he does

he played into last week which he has backtracked on

and the previous week with his perceived threat statement he knew exactly how that would go down

and being critical of the Israeli government is not antisemitism in most people’s opinions it’s not about that it’s about who he is happy to reach out to to gain votes

the left has long had a problem with antisemitism and voters that are very driven by their feelings they had a safe home under Corbyn, who caused immense damage to the Labour party and now its Polanski who is doing excatly the same for the Greens

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 06/05/2026 08:26

Green voters have traditionally voted for a very personal and one dimensional reason. Eco policies. Or a strong character like Caroline Lucas. Well meaning but narrow and of course, at times, a protest vote. Like the Reform party to the right, the Greens are now home to the disaffected left. This means their character has changed and they are not the rather benign and somewhat reasonable calm party of old. They have seen that the “far” left isn’t represented in the Labour Party so it’s hello to the Greens and it’s easy to gain control of a minor party if you mobilise well organised activists.

Radio 5 just said 30 Green candidates are being investigated for anti semitism. That’s a lot but many naive students and others won’t care because they see it as a normal viewpoint.

Winederlust · 06/05/2026 08:24

Plasticdreams · 06/05/2026 07:13

The title and every other part of the article states 2 Jewish men and no other mention. WEIRD.

Because it's a report about anti-semitism.

so now anyone you disagree with is wasting your time. Interesting, very interesting. You’re not actually capable of having a proper discussion about this, you just ask mindless questions in an attempt to look intelligent.

Stop obfuscating. You asked a really stupid question in a disingenuous way. That is wasting everyone's time.

wecangoupupup · 06/05/2026 08:03

Everyone is. He isn’t antisemitic, for fucks sake. He raised a perfectly valid point. He is being smeared because he is anti-Israel.

So why does his party keep picking antisemitic candidates?

BackToLurk · 06/05/2026 08:22

wecangoupupup · 06/05/2026 08:16

My point is that the media rhetoric at the moment is very damaging, and things like this (ignoring the third victim) allow for conspiracy theories and tropes to be spread about.

They weren’t ignored. When the attacks were first taking place there was no reason to connect the first assault. Once the link had been made they were mentioned, which is how we know about them. This is all very clear from the Met Police statement. In addition, random attacks on strangers, particularly with a racist motive, always attract more coverage than attacks between acquaintances.

TeenagersAngst · 06/05/2026 08:21

wecangoupupup · 06/05/2026 08:01

Perhaps it’s because people are tired of being labelled as antisemitic because they criticise Israel?

There have been four or five attacks, all of which are absolutely horrendous. But now the nation is being painted as some iteration of 1940s Germany, that everyone is walking around a Nazi. It’s baffling.

Jewish people sought safety here in the 1940s from the Nazis. They are now leaving the UK because they no longer feel safe.

You seem to be fine with that?

100% this. It’s interesting.

So you think people who dont like a politician should merely not vote for them, and sharing & amplifying negative news stories about them is wrong? Do you apply that principle equally across the political spectrum?

ForWittyTealOP · 06/05/2026 08:19

wecangoupupup · 06/05/2026 08:09

What?

So you’re okay with antisemitism if it’s towards someone you disagree with?

You refer to him by his first name so I assumed you knew him personally.

No, I'm not ok with antisemitism. I'm Jewish. Why would you think I would be ok with anti Jewish racism? Are you feeling quite right this morning?

TeenagersAngst · 06/05/2026 08:19

wecangoupupup · 06/05/2026 07:53

It seems as though people are very happy to erase his identity as a Jewish man because they don’t like what he says about Israel.

I think many are surprised to discover he is Jewish given some of his rhetoric.

EasternStandard · 06/05/2026 08:18

Peony1985 · 06/05/2026 07:19

But the fact the man (I also think this is a key feature) was happy to stab his Muslim friend makes stabbing those of a different faith, less about faith/culture and more he’s a violent moron.

When does asking a question become anti Semitic ? Zack/Dave is himself Jewish.
Is my post Anti Semitic?

It was determined to be a terrorist attack, meaning ideology was part of it.

UK terrorism is defined as the use or threat of action—designed to influence government or intimidate the public—to advance a political, religious, racial, or ideological cause.

No implying that the third victim is being hidden by the media for political reaosns is 100% playing into racist conspiracy theories about Jewish people.

Nobody is labelled as antisemitic because they criticise the actions of the Israeli government. If that were the case, there would be a lot of antisemitic Jews.

What we are seeing is a criticism of Israel as an entity and an oft-expressed desire for it to be eliminated. Now I realise I'm asking you to do a certain amount of thinking and it's still early in the morning where I am, but why do you imagine that rhetoric is being put forward?
