Reform”s policy of Immigration detention centres in Green constituencies.

Regardless of your political persuasion, this just demonstrates the dismal state of British politics.

What happened to the governing party governing in the interests of everyone, regardless of who they voted for? And what about Reform voters in Green consistencies?

Fucking awful, the lot of them.

But I don't think the point is them actually doing it, it's the response to their suggesting doing it and that it reveals hithertoo unacknowledged bias's isn't it?

You might want to look into this a bit more
For example private health cover mostly has restrictions on lots of cancer treatments, endof life care, paediatric issues etc. Take a look
Also they obviously arent going to do the extremely specialist work or A&E
Think about it

The issue with the NHS being free at the point of use is that where there no constraint on demand through price then demand gets constrained through queueing. We saw this in communist countries where prices for clothing, food, cars etc were set deliberately low by the state. But at Government set low prices there was more demand than supply, resulting in queues.

Exactly. They do the easy stuff because it's where the waiting lists are longest, so it's where people go private. They mint it because it's usually low risk too. But when it does go wrong, private facilities don't have the capacity to deal, so patients get shipped to the NHS. Win win quids in.

Why do you think that all the "easier work " would go to the private sector? If anything it should be the other way round.

I mean why would someone risk their premiums or their private health coverage for say a broken toe when they might need it for something more serious later on?

Who do the Reform voters you know want to replace Starmer? Who in the Labour Party do they think is better than him?

The only Reform voter I know that I have been able to ask about this, said it would trigger a general election and Farage would be PM.

At a branch meeting I was at no one thought this. About 40 at meeting.

jcyclops · 06/05/2026 20:35

So Reform propose significant capital spending and job creation, and they plan to do it in "Green" areas, and the Greens come out against job creation.
"It's like rain on your wedding day. It's a free ride when you've already paid...."

BTW, other parties are just the same, but not as blatant with the announcements. Six of the eight biggest prison building/expansions by the Labour government are in Conservative constituencies, despite there being over 3 times as many Labour constituencies.

I’m not voting for either but presumably the political pressure is the point of it. If the results are incredibly dire Labour MPs might make a move.

I doubt it. It’s the Tories who change leaders every five minutes.

Maybe. But if anyone thinks that tomorrow's elections will bring about an immediate General Election, I think I'm allowed to call them stupid.

It’s a vote about your local council. You are voting for the people who work out how the bins work,
the streets get cleaned, child and adult social care. It’s not about “getting Starmer out”, whatever Nigel Farage is assuring his fanbase

You are voting for your local council in England. Meanwhile in Scotland and Wales we are voting for our Parliament members.

If there is a bloodbath which has been predicted, I imagine his own party will call a vote of no confidence in him and go for a new leader. Obviously it will take time. None of the Reform voters I know are expecting Starmer gone on Friday. How many Reform voters do you know that believe this?

You imagine wrong. They’re not the Tories.

My boss is far left and lives in a very affulent area and they do not have migrants hanging about where he lives.

He is far too liberal and accommodating to the masses flooding into the country. Has no idea because it doesnt affect him. Same with those in power, they have no idea.

Its only right that Green areas get what they vote for.

You’re all Weirdos. The state of you lot. Can’t wait for you to all come off your high horse when reform don’t deliver what they promise

Exactly this. I’m truly shocked that the Reform electorate genuinely believe that they are “voting Starmer out “ on Thursday

They’re going to have a hell of a shock when he’s still there on Saturday.

You are aware that these are local council elections and they have no say on where any "detention centres" should be built?
Another load of performative/distractive politics from the party with all the answers but no solutions.

This. If you don't live on an area with hotels filled with immigrants making no go areas in your own town where woman are afraid to go out at night you have no idea how bad it is.

Way to show you haven't read the full thread.

Look up what a detention centre is. It isn't the same thing as an asylum hotel.

Of course it doesn't
But if you give all the easier work to the private sector you gradually decimate the nhs...its not rocket science...

The average stay in an IRC is 1-2 weeks. No-one is in one for years or months.

People absolutely are there for years and months. There have been a number of judicial reviews and at least 2 public inquiries recently which will give you this info, or look at IMB reports or Home Office data.

It's not a threat; it's a promise.

Its really not a promise

they won’t be able to do it 🤷🏻

and i assume that every reform voter would have no problem with those centres being where they live…

(always feel i need to caveat on this type of thread…not planning on voting green and there is already a detention centre reopening where i live)
