AIBU to consider voting Green instead of Labour in local elections?

I’m strongly thinking of ditching Labour & voting for the Green party in the forthcoming local elections because Labour has been such a dismal failure. Do you think this is a good idea or am I being unreasonable?

Do you just randomly accuse innocent people of hate crimes?

No, I've never done that.

Is your local candidate one of the antisemitic ones?

Our local Green Party have been steadfast and amazing for many, many years. They now hold majority seats in our council and the full cabinet and our town is thriving under them.

I will definitely be switching to them from Labour for this weeks local vote - they do seem to be really proving their worth here and have lots of very positive messages and doing so much community stuff.

Reform are trying really hard here too but they are so negative and just bring arguments and a black cloud whenever they are mentioned.

Which town is this? I have family in Bristol who regard the Green council as a shit show when it comes to practical delivery of core services (as opposed to trumpeting on non local issues). In my area the Green candidates simply don’t talk about local issues - in the Labour leaning lower income part of the borough they go in hard on Palestine (largish Moslem communities) and in the more middle class and Tory leaning parts they go in on identity politics and magical thinking. Try asking them how they are going to manage core services and the closest they get is lecturing me on bicycle lanes whilst apparently not knowing where they already exist in their own wards. They seemed very confused about what they actually represent locally.

What policies have they actually delivered better at a local level in your town?

The greens are even worse than Labour in throwing other people's money around.

Are they? I didn’t think they’d ever been in a position to throw any money around.

YANBU. We can’t vote in Bristol this May. But if we could I’d vote Green.

Also don’t be too disheartened by responses on this forum. Mumsnet has a heavy right wing bias and a large number of one issue voters who are obsessed with gender politics.

Antisemitism isn't a great look for the Green either.

Given they had 2 candidates arrested for inciting racism and then their own leader was posting antisemetic BS on socials last week they would be one of the last parties i would vote for

This.

Antisemitism is rife in the Green Party. I'd assume only people who support hatred would vote for them.

Zack Polanski lied about being a Red Cross spokesman.

Zack Polanski offered to make women’s breasts larger through hypnosis.

Zack Polanski attacks the police over apprehending a knife wielding killer.

Going well, then.

You could not be more wrong.

The bond markets are closely watching anything which would signal Starmer’s removal, and his replacement by Burnham and/or Reeves.

Very true. But not remotely what you said.

You think a bot from x is representative of a human being Green Party member? Ok!
maybe some critical literacy would help here

EleanoraStats runs StatsForLefties. She’s Ell Folan who joined the Greens in 2023 (along with a whole heap of her Corbyn -loving mates) and stood for the Greens in 2024.

What was that about ‘critical literacy’?

Like here? Amazingly, it resulted in higher public drug taking, antisocial behaviour and harder/cheaper/more dangerous drugs being taken and fatal overdoses.

All those lovely drug dealers didn't just pack up and start knitting. Rather surprisingly, they kept doing illegal things, including selling drugs.

Who could have seen that coming 🙄

This is what the new members think of that one ‘excellent MP’, but keep telling yourself the party hadn’t changed.

As if Janice Turner, columnist in The (Murdoch) Times has ever given a fuck about the Green Party and how lovely and welly wearing it once was!
What she and the rest miss is a time when it was a small and ineffectual force in politics, despite its one excellent MP, and a once every ten weeks or so appearance from a Green on Question Time that would raise a few sympathetic claps.
The Greens under Polanski are surging hugely and are immensely popular with the young. That’s why suddenly everyone is nostalgic for when a few well meaning Good Life types voted for them.
Because they’re going to change the paradigm on Thursday.

This is what the new members think of that one ‘excellent MP’, but keep telling yourself the party hadn’t changed.

Labour has urged the Greens to expel members and candidates who have posted “antisemitic hatred” on social media, stepping up its criticism of the populist leftwing party on the issue ahead of key elections on Thursday across Britain.

In a campaign video posted by Labour on Monday evening, an unnamed Jewish woman lists comments allegedly made by prospective councillors for the Greens, and condemns them as “antisemitic” and “stereotypes, demonisations, or conspiracy theories of Jews at large”.

I don’t know- why don’t you do some research into places where it’s happened? Unless your questions are just rhetoric.

Green = Islamist party, open borders, defunding police

nothing to do with environment

don’t understand economics ( worse than reeves if you can even get that!)

anti semite
pro terror

very very dangerous party.

no one has learned the lesson from Iran. Like turkeys voting for Christmas !

Wtf do you mean ‘Islamist party’?? What is that when it is at home?

Skinnysaluki · 05/05/2026 18:08

NoisyHiker · 05/05/2026 07:46

Do you think drug use is completely unrelated to other crimes, including rape and murder? Really?

If it is legal, will addicts suddenly gain the ability to earn the money to pay for their fix? Will they stop being vulnerable to exploitation and assault? Will drug lords just pack up nicely and go home, or continue the murders, raping and offering of even cheaper and more dangerous drugs than the legalised ones?

I don’t know- why don’t you do some research into places where it’s happened? Unless your questions are just rhetoric.

Green candidate suggested Israel paid Hamas to carry out October 7 attacks

Yet another person standing as a Green party candidate in the local elections with a background of antisemitism and posting racist conspiracy theories.

At this point, no-one who votes Green can pretend that they aren't perfectly aware that they are choosing to vote for a party riddled with hate filled racists.

Suspended and blocked to be an MP for the Greens in 2024 for being a fucking loon, now jockeying to represent Rushall-Shelfield on the council. Nice chap 🤨
