AIBU to be amazed my friend does all her laundry in one day?

Yeah & it's almost like some of us like clean clothes & bedding.

I don't agree. Laundry is a massive fucking ball ache and takes ages.

We are a family of five and all of us do sports four nights out of seven, so the washing is endless. Gym kits, karate gi, football kits, netball kits, cycling gear, plus PE kits, plus all the usual laundry, means I have to do a load a day. I don't have a tumble dryer, so hanging it all out takes ages - in particular all the fiddly underwear and socks, cycling gloves, shin pad sleeves, running belts. Such a faff. Then once it's dry, folding it all up and putting it away so you can hang out the next lot.

Sticking it in the machine and hitting the 'on' button is only about 10% of the overall job.

Oh my god it’s almost like we all live differently…funny thought isn’t it.

1. I wouldn’t dream of putting my washing on while the house is asleep.
2. As I said my washing machine takes 1.5hours min.
3. I am getting ready for work and making breakfast/lunches In the morning (no school dinners here)
4. I live in Ireland by the sea, the weather cannot be trusted most of the year.

I do similar once a month as it's just me alone these days.

I have three loads a month to do (clothes, towels, bedding) and have colour coded baskets for each. They all tend to fill on the same day so I get them all washed and dried in one go and then put it away so I don't need to think about it for another month. You just need to start first thing and set timers to remind you something's done, and motivate yourself to do it immediately otherwise you run out of time.

I don't buy anything that would need ironing though. I can see how a family could easily do the same with once a week.

We are a family of 4 and I do two loads a day at least. Sometimes one member of the family wears per day: pyjamas, school uniform, swimming kit, football kit and Beavers uniform.

I bet they don’t do grassroots sports as players or coaches. In the winter my dc can wear 20 items of clothing for one training session.

How do you get everything washed and dried in one day? Even with two clothes lines and a sunny day in the summer I couldn't get it all done.

I'm old enough to remember my mum doing all the washing on a Monday. And probably ironing it all too as she watched Coronation Street.lol.

DD very sporty but her gear didn't bulk out the washing machine!

Sounds like you live in a big house though. We’re in a 3 bed London semi and I don’t have space for any more than the two laundry hampers we already have (one for kids, one for me and DH).

Also, we don’t have a utility room or a spare bedroom. There’s a washing machine under the counter in our kitchen and the heated airer and dehumidifier are permanently in mine and DH’s bedroom. I could obviously get everything done a lot quicker if I was just transferring from washer to dryer and hitting a button. But I have to hang each individual sodding item out by hand, or peg it out on the line. And then the same in reverse, then fold and put away. It just takes time.

I actually have to be very organised in my approach because of the lack of space otherwise we end up with clothes drying all over the place and massive piles of clean laundry everywhere.

Im so jealous of my friend who has a big utility room. She just has separate baskets on the counter for each family member and everyone’s dry clothes go in their respect baskets and just stay there until someone needs something. I bet she would be posting on here saying laundry is a piece of piss.

At DD's school, PE was usually so tame, they never worked up a sweat.

In the same. At a minimum a load a day and I’ve a 10kg machine. Find it’s less l in the summer as lighter clothes etc but in winter time it’s definitely 10 maybe more depending. Because as well as day to day to day clothes, towels and bedding, also have the uniforms, PE kits, sports clothes etc.

Also I couldn’t abide the thought of leaving damp towels mouldering for up to a week waiting to be washed
