AIBU to be amazed my friend does all her laundry in one day?

I called over to a friend yesterday evening with my dc. She was just coming down the stairs with an empty laundry basket when she answered the door.
she took a few minutes to answer the door so as she opened the door, she apologised and said she was putting away the laundry.
I jokingly said oh no bother I must put mine away, It’s been sitting there all week I need to clear the basket for the next lot.
she then proceeded to tell me she does ALL her laundry on a Saturday- washes, dries, irons and puts away! IN ONE DAY! I nearly fell to the floor. She said she had two and a half loads.
I was even more baffled because she couldn’t have us round until 7ish because she had a crazy busy day. Her dd had training, her ds had a friend over for a playdate, her dd then had an appointment in the afternoon. Then she had to collect her dh from the train station. My mind is blown! She fits her laundry in between doing all of this…and she irons! 😅 where am I going wrong?

Does your machine really have a setting for soft toys? That is so cute! What's it called? "Spa Day"?

P.S. I go through phases where I strenuously exercise. It's still just a top. Wash the bottoms maybe every 2-3 goes.

good for you for accepting that perhaps you might be coming at this from a very very different place to many of the rest of us

Your ‘mind is blown’ and you ‘nearly fell over’ because someone does their laundry slightly differently to you?

I can’t even imagine being interested in someone else’s laundry, let alone flabbergasted by it.

and obviously don’t strenuously exercise regularly to build up a sweat

fair enough - think most of us could get away with a much less loads in your shoes!

Thank you - exactly . If your standards are lower and you don’t mind your kids going into school in used clothes and sleeping in a bed that hasn’t been changed in a fortnight, then all power to you! You probably have plenty of spare time as a result. But at least own it - hold up your hands and say ‘we don’t go in for a lot of laundry here’. Don’t pretend that everyone in your house is just as clean as in a household that runs a wash every day.

But some germs are good for your immune system. Obsessive cleanliness isn't giving your immune system a chance to "exercise" and be strong.

Some people should think a little less about obsessive cleanliness and a little more about their descendants' futures! And some dirt is GOOD for you!

For posters using the short cycles are you only doing small loads?

I use the 14 minute cycle for small loads, and the 28 minute one for normal loads .Have never used cycles that take more than an hour. I would if it were a very dirty load, but there’s only two of us, and no muddy activities.

I don’t actually wash pyjamas every day, I was explaining how washing builds up when you wear multiple outfits every day, but if that’s all you’ve taken from my post and still made a rude comment then… lovely!

It's more a reflection of how there is little hope for the planet with this type of behaviour.

14 loads of washing a week is a huge amount toward global warming. As others have pointed out - stop washing clean clothes.

mine has about 20 settings and all have different times (including a setting for soft toys, one for trainers, one for silks….)

Not at all - we are very much a house where towels get used for a week or more and dried on radiators or towel rails between use. But there are people on this thread who are doing a whole load every week of JUST towels, so they can't be using them all week. Unless they have a teeny tiny machine which only fits 4 towels into it.

My towels do fill the machine as everyone kept stealing my massive bath sheets so I got them their own. Add in a few hand towels and it’s easily a load. I do only wash towels weekly though.

can I ask how much you think the saving is. Because i have so much from incontinent kids I cant do short washes or v low temp though I do use the 30 degree wash and laundry disinfectant stuff. I am always looking at trying to save money on my electricity bill.which is astronomical due to.laundry and medical equipment 24/7 . Thanks
